Upside: Peter Boulware (pre-'04) or Joey Porter.Downside: pick any 2nd-string OLB who is only a pass-rush specialist. Most likely: A Jason Babin-like season from '04 (60 tackles and 4 sacks).Winborn is the wild-card in this whole scenario. As of now, he's listed higher than AC on the SF depth chart. However, AC (when healthy) is too good of an athlete/player to keep off the field.Training camp should prove interesting.
I think Carter is a bad fit at OLB. He doesn't have very fluid hips and will be a liability playing in space. But he does have ability to rush the passer. I would pass on him in '05.
About as well as he did in as a DE. Another 9'er 1st round bust. #7 overall. OuchHe is part of an impressive list of 1st round 9'er busts over the last 10 years. Hard to believe they are the worst team in the NFL...1995 J.J. Stokes (10) To start the party1996 no pick1997 Jim Druckenmiller (26)1998 R.W. McQuarters (28)1999 Reggie McGrew (24)2000 Julian Peterson (16) Obviously a solid choice2001 Andre Carter (7)2002 Mike Rumph (27)2003 Kwame Harris (26)2004 Rashaun Woods(31)
I was kidding. But I grew up on football in the 1980s when the 49ers were a dominant franchise and actually I do still find it hard to believe they are now so awful.
Six of those picks are #24 or later.....its not like they were the Browns or Cards suckin ### every year and picking top 5. I would pass on Carter--dude who said his hips were not fluid was right on. He has not looked good playing in space, they've tried droppin him off in coverage on a few zone blitzes and he looked lost.
