LB Brandon Moore (1 Viewer)

I don't know where he came from, but I picked him up, and he has been great,

any 49er's fans out there that can give me the 411?

Undrafted in 2002 out of Oklahoma. Signed a 5 year contract extention this offseason. San Francisco signed him in 2002, then cut him prior to the regular season. He went to New England and was on their practice squad for 2 weeks, then they cut him, and San Fran then re-signed him.

From The Sporting News 2002 draft guide: Has good speed and leaping ability. Has good weight room strength. Is a tremendous athlete. Has explosive potential as an edge pass rusher. Has good initial burst and closing speed. Hands are improving-- got off blocks better in senior season. Is better when chasing than in the box.Can be an explosive tackler.

Moore has tremendous workout numbers, but he doesn't always translate it to the field. A lot of upside but not enough consistency to go before the late rounds.

This was from 2002. He obviously has had time to work on the weaknesses he had (which I didn't type out).

Some recent history on him... last season, he was a guy they liked on special teams and as depth, but injuries forced him into the lineup late in the season. I don't know how he looked in the real world, but he was very useful down the stretch for FF. I picked him up in waivers in a couple of leagues and he helped me out. However, in the offseason he got shifted to OLB and wasn't even scheduled to be a starter. I dumped him in all leagues because I felt he was useless in that situation.

Now that he's back at ILB, I picked him up again and expect him to do well FF-wise again. For him, it all seems to be situation.

Slated to start outside in the 3-4 after last season.....team loved his pass rush and was going to move him to end in passing downs like it did at the end of 05. Played inside/outside in 05 when Ulbrich went down. When team went to 3-4, and rooks looked good on the ends in camp, was the "swing man" but still got lots of PT, esp. wehn Haralson went down. With teh switch back to 4-3, and Ulbrich ineffective at SLB, got more PT. Last few weeks has taken majority of snaps at MLB with DSmith's eye problem...last week flipped outside a bit more. Lining up at end in passing situations still.

Right now a better player inside than either Smith or Ulbrich. Better run stopper and more agressive. Pass rushing skills are a bonus. Long term depends on what team does with Smith. Age looks to have caught up with him earlier this year, still a smart guy, but not a big hitter and seemed to be a step behind. Smith signed a decent deal this offseason, so we'll see what happens. Team has cap room, so could afford to cut Smith if need be.

Big Moore booster (search the offseason threads, like the LB rankings). :D

edit--after Seattle game.

Today Moore stayed at MLB and Derek Smith moved to Ulbrichs' SLB spot. Of course, in the Niner 4-3, it really has 2 guys inside, but Moore is playing the key spot where the tackles are funneled to. He's gonna be a monster the rest of the year if this holds going forward.

bump for off-season discussion.

this guy was huge down the stretch for me. he's a UFA in one of my leagues. the bidding has gone high on him. if i want him i'm going to have to put a pretty fat, multi-year contract on him.

how is his long-term job security? where is his ceiling?

They switch him to DE on passing downs, but will try and improve this os, so if they draft someone I doubt he stays long.

i'm as big a moore fan as their is, but the pending switch to the 3-4 is going to hurt him, imo.

i say pending because a) nolan keeps talking about it, and b) the DL coach hired today is a big 3-4 proponent.

i'd love to see him get the chance to play one full season as the MLB in the 4-3. Guy is an absolute beast.
