Le’Ron McClain (1 Viewer)

Steelers 4 Life

Footballguy
What do you guys think about this guy. Will he be getting the carries every week. Any inside info would be greatly appreciated. THanks

The guys a tank. He should be given the ball 10-15 times a game minimum IMO

That's not insider info, but it's coming from inside me

Was at the game on Monday, suprisingly quick. HUGE frame, and broke a ton of tackles. Had a nice little catch and run to set up a TD drive. I'd be shocked if he didnt play a role whenever McGahee becomes healthy, could be a Barber/BJacobs or Bettis/Parker combo.

Im actually starting McClain this week due to bye week situations!

Seeing him play for the first time on Monday Night, every time he touched the ball the name "Jerome Bettis" went through my head. He's quick, he's huge, and he packs a wallop. I would love to see him in the Steeler's backfield.

If I was Baltimore I would have this guy carrying the ball 25 times from the starting gun and wearing down defenses. He's the type of guy that D's don't want to be anywhere near come the 4th quarter.

McGahee would become my change of pace guy to give McClain a rest. Wear down the D, hit them with quick striking McGahee, and keep him healthy in the process.

Of course, I'm not Harbaugh, so my opinion means nothing from a fantasy perspective.

I posted this in another thread, but I will put it here as well.

I think he looks pretty solid I watched most of the Ravens-Steelers MNF game (didn't set DVR for extended time ) and he looked good. One thing that I took away from this game was McClain:

1. The Ravens' RB coach, one Wilbert Montgomery, told Jaworski that he runs like a tailback even though he's big and that he's not slow. Jaws & Wilbert are pretty tight from the Vermeil Eagles teams.

2. I saw that he's got decent hands, and you could see that he had some shiftiness. He definitely has power.

3. I remember hearing that the Ravens got Lorenzo Neal to come back to play FB for them - I'm guesing so they could use McClain as a tailback.

Honestly, McClain is my waiver wire target this week. McGahee has trouble staying healthy.

The guy absolutely truck sticked that Steelers defender for the touch down.

All I can say is I wouldn't wanna face McClain in a 1 on 1 when hes charging at the goal line.

On several other carries I saw Steelers defenders nailing him in the thighs and knees and he just tore right through them with little resistance. The majority of other RBs in the NFL would get tripped up or slown down but McClain seemed to take hits in the legs while running and not falter.

He's the real deal in many ways. every which way! He has had his touches every game so far. What I really noticed all 3 games is he fits Baltimores style so well.

He's long gone off waivers in all my leagues! I see a full blown RBBC if and when McGahee ever gets healthy but still unlike most RBBC it;s not a bad thing in bALTIMORE THE WAY THEY PLAY! They can fully support two rb's each week especially if they hog the ball like they have been so much of the game.

WITH THAT D and the two headed monster at RB they are gonna be a hard team to beat this year. Surprised me how good they have looked!

rice who? Maybe some day but not anytime soon! HE LOOKED LIKE A SCARED BOY OUT THERE IN THAT HARD HITTING CONTEST! I think I UNDERSTAND WHY! tHAT WAS SOME BIG TIME HITTING LAST NIGHT! One tuff guys like me really appreciate!

I came away from Monday's game really liking him, so much so that I've made an offer to get him now before his value increases further. He looks like a good back for PPR too.

 :lmao:

He already got traded in one of my leagues.

Welker and Hightower for him. I didn't like it and voted it down.

I asked the guy what his thinking was and he explained like here.

It still doesn;t make since to me because of the type of league and the guys roster.

Not because of too much giving up for McClain!

He already had like 8 good rb's and lacked wr's. That's why it didnt make any since to me giving up his best ppr wr's and one of best rookie rb's both with great keeper values. The guy wrecked his team even though he got him what looks like to be an outstanding rb.

Once McGahee is healthy, I doubt that McClain is going to continue getting as many yards as he has been so far but the TDs should remain fairly consistent. Like someone else said, he absolutely destroyed that Steeler on his touchdown run. Will probably finish the season with 10 TDs.

He was the corner stone of a trade I made (he and Brandon Lloyd) to get Andre Johnson. In another league, I'm holding tight onto the guy. He looks like an absolute beast and whoever said Barber/Jacobs tandem when McGahee comes back sure seems to have nailed it imo.

Lets not too quickly forget that Willis took nearly every carry until getting hurt late in the 2nd quarter. I'm sure McClain has a role in Balt., but Willis is a player and he ain't dead yet.

He is the guy to own in this backfield of the Ravens. He gets all the GL work and will get 10-15 a game. Mcgahee will have a big game here and there but MCclain will out produce him on the year. Dynasty I am not sure about MCclain though. His running style will make his shelf life very small. He seems to run like MB3 but with less wiggle and will take a ton of punishment.

you would vote it down.......you are always more worried about what other teams are doing rather than worrying about your own team.

When would you say Willis will be Healthy? He seems to get hurt in every game. I own Willis and want him to come back......he just seems to be prone to injury this year.

I'm not sure getting stabbed in the eye and speared in the side should give McGahee the "injury label". The guy has done his best to play through pain in the past.

Not to be a jerk, but he has had his share of injuries in the past - knees, ribs, stomach, etc. - more so than just the recent eye and ribs thing.

I agree with most of this but not so sure McClains TD's are going to remaind consistent. In the Cleveland game Willis removed himself near the goalline due to his eye. When McClain scored from the goalline against Pittsburgh Mcgahee was also sidelined. Not sure anyone can say with any degree of certainty that McClain is going to be the goalline back when Willis is healthy. I think in standard goal line sets McClain is going to line up at FB with Willis at RB and both are going to see the ball.McClain is the starting FB on this team. Mcgahee is the starting RB and except for removing himself due to injury I see no hint of a RBBC. McClain has looked solid but he has also got the majority of his carries in the second half when defense are worn down. I think this is a big asset for slow power runners like McClain to work against tired defenses. Those times this year when the Ravens actually have a good lead I think McClain might get some decent second half work but other than that, when Willis is healthy, he'll be lucky to get 5-10 carries a game. I do think we see a RBBC the next few weeks so McClain has immediate value but once Willis gets healthy I think McClain won't be starter worthy in most leagues.

Sorry if I came across like I think it's Willis's fault that he keeps getting injured......he just does.

Really torn on this guy. Seems like a classic sell high candidate with 3 TDs in 3 games while McGahee has been out or struggled to stay on the field.

As much as McGahee has indeed been hurt, McGahee seems to be really hogging the touches for the time he is out there. Having said that, we could see a lot of McClain this week as I tend to think McGahee's ribs are really hurting this week. And as of now McClain is getting the call in week 6 against the feather Indy run D due to bye weeks.

I think he would make for a nice bye week filler with some nice TD upside, but i still wouldnt feel too bad about selling high.

Vote LeRon McClain in 2008.

ETA: I really like menobrown's take above and thats the way I see it most likely playing out.

He'll outproduce McGahee this year, but I don't like him in Dynasty. He's the new Mike Anderson. Great season this but I have a feeling he'll fall off next year when either Willis get healthy or he goes to another team.

Same here. Have him in a dynasty league, and really would like to see what he can do. But his value might drop precipitously in the coming weeks.

Just added McClain; now have the complete set of McGahee-McClain-Rice. Will probably drop Rice for a few weeks to try and get some WR help.

To me, it looks like the Ravens are wanting to use one guy as the bell cow, but McGahee keeps getting nicked up. Coaches called out McGahee in traininging camp for playing soft and pulling himself out of games for breathers; maybe the staff is trying to send him a message by keeping him off the field when he comes out after being hurt. I thought I read somewhere that McGahee wanted to go back in the game in the second half Monday night but coaches thought it best that he sit out.

I picked him up every league i could a couple of weeks ago but wasn't all that excited about it until watching him Monday Night. that TD was as impressive as any i've seen from a RB this year. 90% of RBs would have kept running sideways to try and get around the defender. he got to the hash mark and just said screw it and plowed into him at the 3 yard line and drove him into the endzone. It was reminiscent of Earl Campbell. seriously. (not that he'll be that good, just that he's very similar in strength and power).

Waiver Wire gold. Ride him for as long as possible as McGahee can't seem to stay healthy at all. No one is likely to give you decent trade value since they think he'll disappear any week now.

Really? I thought the starting FB was Lorenzo Neal. http://ftcl.football.sportsline.com/players/depth-chart/FB

Be careful letting menobrown do your research for you.Look, I may have been a little harsh, and I don't claim to know the future and how the Ravens will use their 3 RB's. I do think based on what I've seen that Harbaugh would be a fool to not give McClain around 10 or so carries a game to see if he can keep it up. I also think the Ravens would be foolish to have an injured McGahee pounding the rock in short yardage/goal line situations when they have a 260 lb beast that should be able to push the pile forward in those situations. I have no doubt that when healthy Willis is going to get the lion's share of the carries, but if he can't stay healthy, watch out for McClain. One of my leagues is an old fashioned TD only league. McClain was built for that sort of league. I was thrilled to get him and he will be my RB2 until further notice.

I did not bother to research who the starting FB for the Ravens is because I actually watched the MNF game. In that game McClain was playing FB opposite Mcgahee and it was about only time he got any touches until Willis got hurt. You ought to watch the games some time. If, like you, I had not bothered to watch the game and I wanted to know the depth chart I would have went to a far more official site like sportsline. I'd have started with NFL.com were I'd have seen McClain listed as the starting FB: http://www.nfl.com/teams/baltimoreravens/depthchart?team=BAL. And than, just to double check, I'd have went to the Ravens official website were I would have also seen McClain listed as the starting FB: http://www.baltimoreravens.com/People/Play...epth_Chart.aspx

i'm surprised at the praise he's getting here...

thought he had a good game but i'm not too impressed at his prospects the rest of the year... doesn't strike me as a player that will get more than a couple carries a game once mcgahee is healthy.

Is McClain the equivalent of Hightower, or something more.....or less? McClain in week 6 against Indy sounds better to me than Hightower vs. Dallas (when Lynch is on a BYE for me)...

Waiver Wire gold.
If you can get him this week. Many owners snatched him up prior to this week.
You misunderstand. He went completely undrafted and was picked off of waivers at some point. He's been wiaver wire gold for whoever picked him up.For instance, I picked him off waivers after week 1 and most owners at least did after week 3. He's been waiver wire gold for me.

Woohoo, I backed up my thoughts by going out and getting him. Traded O'Sullivan, Selvin Young and Antonio Bryant for McClain, Dallas Clark and Trent Edwards. I will just cut Edwards, but Clark is valuable to me since I lost Shockey.

He already got traded in one of my leagues. Welker and Hightower for him. I didn't like it and voted it down. I asked the guy what his thinking was and he explained like here. 1) You're an idiot for voting trades down. 2) You're an idiot for having a rule that has other coaches voting on trades. 3) You're an idiot because you worry about other teams and how they try to better themselves when you should worry about how you can make your own team better.4) You're an idiot because you can't spell.

Is he now the GL back in Baltimore? Another TD today.
He is the back in Baltimore...possibly the best in the AFC north going forward.
Willis did o.k. as well, right? Looks more like RBBC where McClane gets the goalline carries, which is pretty impactful.
Every week we wait for McGahee to do something but McClain continues to put the points up. At this point A'La'Le'Ron McClain is a decent #2 option.

Get him active in all but the shallowest of formats.

Baltimore is technically only 4 games in.

At this point, this situation looks a little like the Jax situation of the last few years. You have a pretty good running team that has a lot of carries to split up. McGahee (Taylor) starts and gets the larger share of the carries. McClain (MJD) gets a decent number of carries and the goalline carries. MJD has been more valuable but there are certainly weeks when Taylor does better.

This is about how it appears right now. If the splits and situations continue as is, McClain is probably worth slightly more than McGahee. But I have a hard time believing that just because McClain is out of nowhere and McGahee is the "franchise" back. So if McGahee struggles, he gets more chances and if McClain does, he just disappears. But if I had McGahee and someone was willing to give me anything close to preseason value for him, I'd jump at it.

He is a great spot play for those of you with Bush and Gore. Check out that Cleveland matchup in Week 9.
I own Gore & Lynch....Lynch's BYE is week 6, & Balt plays Indy that week, so I am glad I picked up McClain; looks likeI'll be using him at least twice
