League Filled... Thanks! (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
My longest tenured league of 10 years has one opening this year. We are upgrading the format to allow for more strategy, trades, free agents and player movement. The first step is a redraft.

But be warned, this is not your typical 12-team league. If you've never played in this format, it involves a more complex approach to build your team, and consequently a little more of your time. We use different twists to keep the interest level high (such as an offseason free agency period where you can 'steal' a player from another team...but at a cost). Since we're having a complete redraft this year, everyone will start on the same level. There's a lot of drafting to be done in the inaugural season (offensive, defensive, rookie), and we're going to get the ball rolling as soon as we have 1 new owner. Rosters are made up of 14 offensive players, and 14 defensive. You can use your salary cap any way you choose to fit your strategy.

Entry is $50, league uses Fanball.com, and I think we'll be using LeagueSafe for payments. We run a very fair and democratic league, most of us either know each other, or are friends of friends. I am trying to get a few more solid additions from the crew here because I know most of you are decent guys and good competition.

If you need more info before committing, just send me a PM or post your questions below.

Otherwise I'll just prioritize by the post order. Thanks!

Here are the rules.... if you have any questions just let me know.

League Name: Sudden Death (SD for short)

Style of League: Dynasty

Payouts:

$600 pool

-$60 for league

-$50 Consolation Champion (next year)

-$130 for second place

-$360 for first place

Playoffs:

in 2010, we now have 3 divisions: Top 2 teams get week 14 byes. 3rd place plays 6th place team and 4th place plays 5th place team. Week 15, #1 seed plays lowest seed remaining and #2 seed plays highest seed remaining. Week 16, winners of week 15 play in the Super Bowl. And, we will have a consolation bracket to play for $50 towards the following years fees. All 6 non-playoff teams will be in this bracket with the 7th and 8th best teams getting round 1 bye.

Roster Size:

Offensive Players: 16 (7 Starters)

Defensive Players: 15 (10 Starters)

Total Players: 31

Salary Cap Limit:

Blended Offense and Defensive Cap: $105,000,000.00

Injured Reserve Exemptions: 1 (Must be ruled "Out" or "IR" by Fanball)

Team is awarded a 25% "refund" of "contracted" players' salary if IR'd

Team is awarded a 50% "refund" of "non-contracted" players' salary if IR'd

1 Player Taxi Squad:

Only 1st, 2nd and 3rd year players eligible and must have a $0.5m SD salary value. Player's placed on the taxi squad count as $250k against $61,000,000 cap and can not be placed on that teams active roster during the current fantasy season. Taxi squad players' salary's are guaranteed, meaning if you cut them during an active season, the $250k will still be counted towards your cap limit and placed into the dead money designation.

Starting Lineup Formations:

Offense: (7 Starters)

QB - Min 1, Max 2

RB - Min 1, Max 3

WR - Min 1, Max 4

TE - Min 1, Max 3

PK - Min 0, Max 0

Defense: (10 Starters)

DL - Min 2, Max 4

LB - Min 3, Max 5

DB - Min 3, Max 5

Illegal Lineups:

Teams that use more than 7 offensive players and 10 defensive players in their weekly starting lineup will result in a forfeiture of the game.

Carry-Over Players:

At the end of a season teams are eligible to "roll" their entire roster into the following season if they choose to do so. However, each "NON-CONTRACTED" player that is carried over will receive a $500k bonus payment that will be assigned to the dead cap space. Players that are contracted will not receive any kind of bonus payment. Carry-Over designations will be determined prior to

our annual draft (to help shape the draft's eligble players). After this deadline passes, all players that are retained receive the $0.5m bonus within each teams cap space. This bonus is non-refundable regardless of whether or not the player is on your opening day roster.

Annual Draft:

Each August SD will feature a 12 round draft to allow teams an opportunity to replenish their rosters with rookies and all other available players. The order of the draft will be determined by the previous years win/loss records. The worst record will pick first in each round with the next worst teams following them. In the event of a ties within the win/loss records, point for will be used to determine ordering, with the lower scoring team taking precedent. The 4 playoff bound teams will receive the final 4 picks in the following draft, regardless of their regular season record. The league champion will pick 12, with the runner-up selecting 11. The 9 and 10 slots will be determined by those two teams regular season records, in the event of a tie, once again points for will be used, with the worse of the two teams earning selection number nine.

Each team receives the right to contract one draft pick per season. The chosen contract designation need not be determined until the draft has completed. Contract Rights are a tradeable commodity but must be traded with a draft pick. No more than 12 contracts will be made during each drafting period.

Teams are allowed to either pass on draft selections they do not want, trade them, or even continue to select players that exceed the maximum roster spaces allowed. Teams will be given a small window at the end of the draft to re-comply with our roster limitations.

Free Agency Period:

Franchise Tag Designation:

Each team recieves one franchise tag per offseason. Franchise tags are not a tradeable commodity. Players that receive the franchise designation receive an additional $1.5m bonus (in addition to the $0.5m carry-over bonus). Franchise tag players are not eligible for FA bidding and are completely protected from free agency.

Transition Tag Designation

Each team receives one transition tag designation per offseason. Transition tags are not a tradebable commodity. Players that receive the transition tag receive an additional $0.5m bonus (in addition to the $0.5m carr-over bonus). Transitioned players are still eligible to be bid on during free agency but receive an immediate 1st round selection from the bidding team if the bid not matched. Teams that do not have a first round selection due to prior trades or FA activity are not allowed to bid on transition tagged players.

The Process:

Each July SD will feature a 2 day period of time to allow teams the opportunity to sign players from other teams. The process includes teams offering a contracted salary to a player of their choosing whom is not protected by either an existing contract or franchise tag. The offered contract has to be at a higher per year salary than the current player is worth and can include a 1, 2, 3, or 4 year offer. The team that currently own the player being bid on will have an opportunity to match the contract and retain the player of allow him to leave and receive draft pick compensation from the bidding team.

Each team is allowed to "cause" only one contract to be formed. Meaning that if you bid on a player, and no other team bids higher on that player; you are not able to bid on another player, regardless of whether or not your bid is matched or not. We will create no more than 12 total contracts as a league annually via the FA period.

All bids placed on the first day of the FA period will expire at 11:59pm (est). Then the following day will be a non-active day as the teams that received bids on their players decide whether to match or not. Their answers will be due at 11:59pm (est) that night. Then day 3 will resume the bidding action and all teams that did not have an expiring bid on day 1 will be eligble to place a bid on this day. All bids will again expire at 11:59pm (est) and the teams that received bids on their players will have all of the fourth day to decide to match or not, with their answers due by 11:59pm (est) that night.

Compensation for all players (that are not transition tagged) will be either a 1st or 2nd round selection in the following draft depending on the players performance that given season.

Contract Explanation:

Contracts are the process of "locking up" a player at a determined salary value for x number of years. There are two ways to place contracts; during the draft, and during the free agent period. Contracted players can be traded without penalty and are not eligble to be bid on during the free agent period and are not paid the $0.5m carry-over bonus that other retained players incur.

Draft contracts - All rookie and second year players are eligible to receive 3 year contracts during our draft. The value of the player is determined by a salary table that combines both the position the player was selected in the NFL draft and what round he is taken in the SD draft. All other players are eligble to receive contracts ranging from 1 to 4 years. The value of these 3rd year or longer tenured players are determined by our player salary table based on their previous seasons statistical performance.

Free Agent contracts - Each team is awarded a FA contract right. They may bid a contracted amount for up to 4 years of service on a player on another team. The salary value of the contract is limitless but must at minimum exceed the current per season value of said player by $2m. Teams that receive bids on their players may choose to match the bid and retain there player at the contract bid amount. These teams still maintain the right to place their own bid on a different teams player.

Contract Buy-Outs - Teams are able to cut contracted players from their team during the offseason and up until start of week 4 of the regular season. To cut a contracted player a team must retain half of the total value of the entire life of the contract immediately. For example; Shaun Alexander in a $6m per year contract will 3 years remaining equals a total of $18m still owed. To cut Shaun in this example, the team would have to retain a total of $9m in that given years salary cap (placed in the teams dead cap designation).

Contract Extensions - Each season every team is eligble to extend one of their contracted players. Only players that are in the final year of their contract are eligble to be extended. To extend a player the current contract per season value is compared against the current real league salary of said player. The extension is based on the higher of the two values. The extension can include a maximum of 3 additional years and will include a 25% salary increase on top of the higher of the two values and also a $0.5m signing bonus due immediately (and placed within the teams dead cap space). For example: Shaun Alexander is in the final year of a 4 year $36m contract.

His per season average contract value is $9m, while his current real SD salary value is $1m. To extend his contract we have to use the higher of the two, $9m, and then add a 25% increase on top of that; $2.25m. So his new per season contract value would be $11.25m plus in that first year he would receive the $0.5m bonus. Like contract buy-outs, teams have until the start of week 4 to complete contract extensions.

Player Hold-Outs - Players that are locked into below real value contracts can holdout for a pay increase, if said player's current contract is at least 25% below their real league value for two seasons consecutively. In the event a player is eligible for a hold-out we take the average of the two seasons real salary values and adjust the player to reflect 75% of that average value. For example: Phillip Rivers is locked into a 4 year, $0.5m per year contract. In year 1 his actual value is $4m, then in year 2 his value is $5m. Both of those years his real value exceeded his contract value but greater than 25%. Thus he will hold out year 3.

His new adjusted contracted value for the remaining years becomes ($4m+$5m=$9m/2=$4.5mx75%=$3.375m) $3.5m per

season. Contract length is not eligible to be adjusted.

Contract Payments/Deferments - Each team has until the start of week four to determine whether or not to pay extra money on a players contract or even defer some of the payment into the following season. Lets keep the deferrments to no more than one year in advance. No more than 50% of a players total contract value can be paid in any given year.

Examples; Shaun Alexander has a 4 year $20m contract with a $5m annual salary. I can push up to $4.5m of his salary into the following season or I can pay him an additional $5m this season. But no more than $10m (50% of the total value) can be paid in any given season.

Waiver Wire

A blind bid format where you can put in a claim for a player. When you put in your silent claim, you can also put a dollar figure in. For Ex., if you wanted to pick up Derrick Ward, you could submit your blind claim saying "Add Derrick Ward + 250k". Then, if multiple teams go after the same player, the team that bids the highest wins the player and in this example, 250k would go into dead cap money space. A tie will result in a second blind bid by the tieing parties. All bids are in increments of 50k.

The second phase of the claims process is a strictly wide open free-for-all where teams can add/drop players without costing any extra money. This period occurs after the Blind Bid phase and is meant mainly for teams looking to add low rent bye week fillers and not the sexy pick-up-of-the-week types.

Bidding will be closed for the blind-bid phase at 11:59pm (est) on Wednesday nights. And then we will open the free-for-all phase at 12:00pm (est) on Thursday afternoons and close it at 12:59pm (est) on Sunday Afternoon. Thursday games will obviously impact these time periods and we will adjust accordingly when needed.

The highest bid will be awarded the player. But realize that the player's salary will be a reflection of how they performed in the previous year.

If you decide you do not want to bid any during a current week, you may wait until the blind-bid period ends, and then come on this site starting at noon every thursday and simply lay claim to a still available player(s). Please make sure that you either have the required salary cap and roster spots available prior to attempting to acquire a player or make clear your intention if you are awarded said player(s).

For example;

Add TE Robert Royal +500k (if I win him please cut QB Troy Smith to make room).

Releasing Players in Season:

All non-contracted players can be released at any time during the season without penalty. However, the $0.5m that was paid to all carry-over players will not be refunded in the event one of these players is released. This is partially why we have a designated dead cap space on each roster.

Trade Deadline:

The start of week 12 of our season will be the deadline to make trades each season. Trades will resume following the completion of our championship game, held during week 16.
