I am a team owner in a league where the commish (not me) just changed the league rules tonight because he did not set a trade deadline prior to the season so we do not have one in place and a trade was accepted. He scrambled, veto'd the trade (we have majority ownership trade rules in place so the commish only has the power to vote once out of ten teams) and changed the rules by backdating the trade deadline to last week.
The league is a 2 keeper league where all teams must keep two players each season and there is no restriction on how long you can keep players. Team A (still in the playoffs) offered L Bell, langford and two sub-standard wrs to a Team B (out of the playoffs) for martin, ivory, cobb and decker. Team B also has luck, dez, forte, amendola, big ben and eifert in terms of keeper options. Team A loses its best keeper option by far but gets upgrades for the playoffs. The difference in projections of the four players acquired by Team A over their current starters is only 3.8 points so if the trade was processed, they could lose this week and lose their best keeper. They could also win and move on but that is the chance taken by the trade. As far as the trade is concerned, the eye test screams huge upgrade for Team A but in reality Team B gets an upgrade for next season.
Trades should not be happening during the playoffs but given the situation that no trade deadline was in place, should this trade or others be allowed to be reviewed by owners and put to a vote with a very large lesson learned for our commish to "do his job" prior to next season and others in terms of confirming the rules are in place?
Appreciate input on this.
