League Setup Question (1 Viewer)

Several owners in a 14 team league I commish have been compaining about how long the draft takes. We have always had a 17 rounder, with a requirement to draft 2QB, 4RB, 5WR, 2TE, 2K, 2D. Our first waiver process doesn't occur until after Week 1.

One proposal is to drop 2-3 rounds off the draft, and allow owners to fill those spots using waivers following Week 1. Initial waivers would be in reverse draft order. We would also scrap the positional requirements.

I can't think of any big problems with this, but am I overlooking something? Would this create an advantage/disadvantage for anyone? My thinking is that there is an inherent advantage in drafting top 3 in a 14 team league, and giving those drafting 12-14 first shot at waivers evens this out a bit. Any other thoughts?

TIA

If your draft is taking too long, it's not the fault of the roster size but of the person enforcing the time-limit. Does everyone take 5 minutes to pick?

How much time would dropping 2-3 rounds actually save you?
agreed. drafting your backup K, D or TE doesn't take too long. it's the middle rounds that you should focus on.enforce a time limit, or at least a "you get heckled and have to chug if you take more than 2 mins" one.

I personally agree that this is the real issue, but with 18 owners of 14 teams spread across Portland, San Francisco, Sacramento, LA, Philly, and NY conducting the draft via chat it's pretty tough to enforce. It seems to me that the last few rounds always go quickly anyways so this doesn't really help, but it's been proposed by 5-6 owners so I need to put up a proposal for a vote (unfortunately I don't run this league as a dictatorship or I'd simply shoot it down). I'm just bouncing this idea off y'all here so I can submit to a vote a proposal that doesn't have any unintended consequences.

We set a 90 second time limit and most guys were actually making their picks in 30 seconds or less. There were a few that got the buzzer, but not many. If guys know the expectations they tend to come prepared to make quick picks.
