League switched from redraft to dynasty last year... question (1 Viewer)

When I say dynasty, we can keep a player for a max of 3 years. There are some rules in place to help keep talent in the draftable pool "fresh" (see below if you care).

At what point do you draw the line on a guy like Tiki in favor of a guy like Fitz. Thats really my dilema. I was able to "steal" LJ on the cheap last year with all the questions going into the season, so, he's my cornerpiece for the next couple years. I could keep Tiki and squeeze an insignificant player under the cap, but, cap would prevent me from keeping Fitz. I could keep Fitz and FWP under the cap.

I'm really struggling with when to cut an older guy -- who may still have gas in the tank for a year -- for a rising star. If I throw Fitz back into the pool chances are slim that I'd be able to get him again.

Anyone else going thru transitions like this? I was all set on just keeping tiki and content to have 2 of the top 5 RB's using straight VBD rankings. But, dynasty rankings change that confidence a bit.

If you care about specifics... here they are:

We have a "cap" in place such that we have to keep 3 players that "cost" less than 35. Their costs are inverse of the round they were drafted in (i.e. we have 18 rounds, so a first rounder will cost "18", 2nd rounder will cost "17" on down). 35 is the magic # that prevents keeping your 1st rounder and 2nd rounder.

I'd suggest it depends on two things:1. How much does your scoring and league format create value for RBs vs. WRs?2. Can you keep Tiki for 3 years + last season or does the 3 years include last season?I think Tiki has at least two more strong seasons left, but only in leagues that are yardage heavy.Fitz is a great talent and appears headed to a Top 5 WR status by the end of his "keeper" cycle. However, having a Top 5 RB is almost always worth much more than a Top 5 WR.

what's your whole roster?? It might be better to keep other players than Tiki & Fitz based upon where you picked them...

Where'd you pick LJ? Fitz? Barber? FWP? Who else do you have? What pick do you have in round 1? How do draft picks work?

LJ + Fitz + FWP sounds better to me than LJ + Tiki. Although it's CERTAINLY subject to change, it's looking like FWP will be getting the goalline touches and Tiki won't, which helps to narrow the game between the two. Obviously Tike is still superior, but I like that threesome significantly better than the twosome.

Great replies so far. For the above questions about where I got them.

Tiki 4th round (this would be the last year I can keep him [so, we started this format 2 years ago... sorry] (cost 15)

Fitz 5th round (cost 14) (drafted last year...can keep for 2 more)

LJ 6th round (cost 13) (drafted last year... can keep for 2 more)

FWP 15th round (cost of 4) (drafted last year... can keep for 2 more)

We announce our keepers first and then via lottery get our draft slots. I won last year so my name is in the hat exactly 1 time. So, I'm expecting to be put towards the end of round 1. Just looking at who I expect to be kept, 10 of the top 20 RB's are off limits.
