League trade deadline deal (1 Viewer)

eagles2007

This deal just went down in my local league: (NL only 4x4 10 teams)

Team A gets:

Ryan Roberts, $10

Emilio Bonifacio, $8

Rich Harden, $10+

Justin Upton, $14+

Team B gets:

Javier Vazquez, $33

Matt Holliday $10

J.J. Hardy, $15+

The 3 players with + signs will all require a $4 raise for 2010 to be kept. The others remain at that salary for 2010, before salary increases hit in 2011.

I think Team B got the far better of this deal. Far, far better.

How bad is this?

I would rather be Team A and receiving Justin Upton in a NL Keeper League, especially if his salary is locked at $18 for the next 2 seasons.

I assume Roberts/Bonifacio/Hardy wouldn't be kept. So it's basically Harden/Upton for Vazquez/Holliday. Holliday is great value at $10 but Javy might be overpriced a tad at $33. Harden is a boom or bust so he's priced about right, and Upton could put up better stats than Holliday as soon as next year. Not outrageous in my opinion, but I could be in the minority here.

Cant recall, but I think 4x4 leaves off R and Ks. And Im guessing this is a roto league. But regardless of which stats you leave off or format, I have no problem with the deal.Upton is the best keeper option here. Holliday has the potential to be a good keeper, but he's a FA and a Scott Boras client, so he's no guarentee to even be in the NL next year. Vazquez is almost too expensive to keep, depending on league inflation and Hardy is fairly worthless at that price. Roberts actually has the chance to be the everyday 2b for Ari next year, making him a viable keeper. There is also the chance Bonifacio moves to second when the Marlins move Uggla (likely this offseason), though they should just stick Coughlin there. Depending on how that shakes out, he could have value at that price.
