LeBron James IS the next Michael Jordan (1 Viewer)

Enough of the debate about whether LeBron is better than Kobe - that debate ended a while ago.

LeBron has moved from the ranks of a good NBA player to The Next Michael Jordan.

He still has to win a few championships to cement his place as the next MJ, but he fits all the other criteria:

1. Very Good NBA player

2. Competitive to the point where winning is more important than individual awards

3. Capable of carrying a team of RPs on his back if necessary

4. Ratings draw on TV - must see TV

5. Very engaging charismatic and magnanimous personality

And most important Jordanesque feature - he is a guy that a lot of middle-class white guys believe would hang out with them.

I am not suggesting that LeBron is as good as Jordan was, and that will always be an apples to oranges comparison since they play different positions. But he has become the face and personality of the league - something no single player has been able to do since Jordan. He needs to win some championships to cement the new role, but I think those goals are in his sight, perhaps as soon as this year.

As dynamic a player as Kobe has been, he has never had the charisma and personality to be the face of the league. Too many people in the league, and casual fans, don't like Kobe as a teammate or a player. LeBron will draw the casual fan to a game in a similar fashion as Jordan. All kinds of companies - including non-sporting companies - would love for him to endorse their products. That will grow if he continues to win MVPs and starts to win championships.

Kobe could win a championship this year (and theoretically get out from under Shaq's shadow) but he will never be as loved as LeBron (or MJ).

About time someone started a thread on lebron and kobe.. its been at least 2 days since the last one.

Don't know why he has to be compared to Jordan.

His game is different, his position is different.

I doubt he will win six championships.

But I do think there's a decent chance that after his career is over that people may say he's the best.

why?He is young enough - he has a good cast around him this year and next and after that he can pick his accompanying cast if he wants to leave Cleveland! I am not saying he is going to, but let's see how the next few years play out first before we just assume he can't or won't win 6 rings

Let's not forget, LeBron needs to take a couple years off to play Minor League Baseball as well.

It's just really difficult to do and it takes both a really motivated team, coach, and almost a perfect storm to do it.I'm pretty sure like over 98% of players would be satisfied with their career after winning just once, 99% after winnning 2.

Jordan was lucky to keep his #2 man Pippen with the organization for nearly 10 seasons, his coach for the same time frame, he nor pippen had any serious injury problems.... and this all happened while he himself was still in prime form.

I just don't trust that combination of good fortune and intense drive to stay inside of LeBron.

Lacks a mid range jumper at this point to be in MJ's class. Oh and the rings
It has less to do with skill set - they play different positions, so MJ would be better at some things, and LeBron better at others. The second point is valid - he needs the rings, but he is well on his way to becoming the face of the NBA - and at its essence, that is what finding the next MJ is all about - who will be the face of the league that will bring in casual fans, and will be universally well liked.

The jump LeBron had to make was on defense and he is becoming a major player on that side of the ball. He just had a historically all-time great season. He doesn't have the total accomplishments of Jordan because he's still young, but he's certainly on the route to being in the Jordan discussion when his career is over.

And yes, he has passed Kobe (and the rest of the league) a while ago and won't be looking back for a long time.

I think of him as a better version of Magic than MJ. Kobe is like MJ, only not as good.

Whether Lebron is better than MJ has yet to be seen, but his physical skills are better. I don't know if he has the same drive or not.

Can you imagine it would be like if LeBron won a title this year, decided the NBA just wasn't enough of a challenge anymore, and left to go try his hand at TE for the Browns?
