Leftwich, Byron - QB - Pittsburgh Steelers (1 Viewer)

Big Ben smashed his hand on a helmet and our old friend Byron has breathed life into a sputtering Steelers offense. This team hasn't looked this good since last year. Leftwich is putting a lot of mustard on his balls as well.

Possible waiver wire gem?

I think Big Ben misses next game at least based on how he didn't even raise his shoulder during the 2nd half.

Leftwich could be a decent 1 week plug and play vs the Colts if BB misses time.

However, as others have said he doesn't provide much value.

Started Leftwich and Hillis this week due to byes.
OK Please tell me you were kidding...... I mean it could have happened......Alright this one is good I don't know whether you are serious of yanking the collective chain. If you did start them, Nice one!!!. If you didn't and are messing with "us", Nice One!!!.

shoulder doesn't sound good -- supposedly popped out, or something like that.

can't raise his arm.

edit: or maybe not.....

Coach Mike Tomlin said in his post-game presser that Ben Roethlisberger could have returned to the game but the team felt confident enough in Byron Leftwich after he led a touchdown drive to begin the third quarter.

When your qbs are Anderson, Roethlisberger, and O'Sullivan you're going to have to do something. I'm grabbing about anyone I can right now even at $5 per pickup. I have Romo/O'Sullivan in another league so Leftwich looks pretty good right now in that league, too. I have Anderson/Rivers in another league and need a backup to Rivers now. Again, I'm going to go after Leftwich if Ben is out.

Of the guys available in my leagues (Quinn, Frerotte, Collins, Orlovsky/Culpepper, Grossman, Rosenfels, and Hill) Leftwich looks better than most. He's on a winning team with good recievers, the offense produces a decent amount of points, and he's been a starter who has produced decent numbers before. Grossman may be the only guy with more positives though I don't think his recievers are as experienced. None of them is a great option but for someone like me I'll be pretty happy with 200 yards and 2 tds per game. I think that is achievable in Pittsburgh's offense. Rosenfels has the highest cieling but hasn't got a lot of starter experience. Personally, I'd rank them:

Leftwich

Rosenfels

Frerotte

Grossman

Hill

Collins

Quinn

Orlovsky/Culpepper

Collins is ahead of Quinn only because he's been the starter most of the year (even though his per game average this year is horrible).

Personally I'd rank Rosenfels at the top of that list, with Hill and Quinn a close 2nd. I don't think Leftwich provides as much upside as those guys. Leftwich will play caretaker role imo.Indy good matchup, but again I think that's the only game he'll have a shot at starting.

This all assumes that Ben is out for a while and you have time to ponder. Obviously if Ben isn't out for 4+ weeks he drops way down.

The ranking of these guys should have it's own thread. I'd be interested on everyone's opinion.

:goodposting: Leftwich would need to be added to the discussion, but one has started here:

I'm not sure Leftwich has any significant value but from the way Roethlisberger was acting on the sidelines I'd be surprised if he didn't miss a few games at least and possibly several.
You are probably correct but I just don't see him having any big fanatsy impact.
You haven't seen my QB's.

I don't think we'll know much more when Tomlin gives his news conference today at noon so we're going to have to wait and see. My gut feeling is that Ben plays this week against the Colts.

Weird. My gut tells me he'll be lucky to be lifting his right elbow above his shoulder by the time they play the Colts.

OK Please tell me you aren't really that gullible. It's pretty obvious whether he was serious or not. Now I wonder whether I am being the gullible one by thinking that you were gullible.

Hate to bring the news to Ben owners but he is 20th in QB points and 73rd overall. Not exactly performing at his 5th QB ADP. If you are starting the 20th QB in points in your league you may want to look at your other options anyway.

If you have a crappy team this year Leftwich could be a decent pick up for next year. He's still young and he only signed a one year deal so in effect he's audtioning for a starters gig somewhere next year. KC or Minnesota maybe?

No I thought the same thing. I just didn't want to waste the energy typing it up.........

Leftwich behind that Minny o-line with Rice and Berrian stretching the field would be a nice one.

:blackdot: Minny is only a Qb and head coach away from being a dominant team.

Watching the game last night, I don't know if I would want to start a Pittsburgh QB this year, that O line is just about as bad as it gets when it comes to pass blocking.

I am basing my gut feeling on the fact that he was lobbying to go back into the game when he returned to the sideline and that Tomlin said afterwards that Ben could have played if necessary. You may be right though -- we'll just have to see how it progresses through the week. It doesn't help that the Steelers have a short week.
