Rookie RB LeGarrette Blount led the Titans with 42 yards on nine carries in Monday night's preseason win.

Blount ran hard and with decisiveness, but played behind Samkon Gado (who scored two touchdowns). Still in a fight for the Titans' third-string tailback job, Blount needs to make some headway on the depth chart. Javon Ringer is entrenched as the No. 2, so only Gado stands in the undrafted rookie's way.

Very impressed with his performance, although it was in the 4th qtr. I really like his strength and will to drive. A very interesting prospect.

 
He hit a teammate in the facemask, as part of an extra-feisty practice. He apologized for it right away, and not only that but his coach said he had no reason to apologize. This is not the cheap shot that he took on the Boise State player, it was a normal part of a training camp practice. Let's not make it into more than it is; anyone else on the team does that and it barely gets reported.

He has by all accounts been a model citizen since the Titans gave him a second chance. This is not the second coming of Pacman.

Blount has a powerful running style, but is also very nimble, as he showed against Arizona. He ran through, around, and sometimes over (hurdling them, but not like Lavelle Hawkins :rant: ) them. Gado looked good, but Blount looked even better. I cannot imagine the Titans keeping Gado over Blount this year.

The week before he was something like 6/5 or 5/6...I own him in dynasty and almost cut him after the punch in practice. At best he is the RB3, have no delusions about him passing Javon Ringer on the depth charts. And so you have to ask yourself where does he fit in on the TN roster. If CJ has a strain or sprain it's the Javon Ringer show. Ringer had 375+ carries one season at MSU, he can carry a load rather easily.

 
I am not excusing what he did to that kid from Boise State, but what seems to get lost is the kid initiating talk, and smacking him on the shoulder pads.

Had he not 1st laid a hand on Blount, I don't think Blount would have punched him.

Punching was excessive. However, I would have let the guy know the magnitude of strength that my pimp hand possesses. I'm a CJ3 owner in three dynasty leagues and I really have no desire to carry Blount on my roster since I have Ringer. I see no situation in the future where if CJ3 goes down you'll have Blount getting any major amount of carries. I think the best case for him would be a TD vulture like Lendale was during CJ3's first year. Ringer is a better fit to play the CJ3 role.
 
Blount has more talent as a runner than Gado, but Gado has more experience in all phases of the game that Blount lacks. The big issue with Blount is his familiarity with pass protections and how fast he can learn them.

If he shows progress they will probably keep him because of his upside. If he's really struggling with protections or consistency executing the plays then he's likely to get cut and they'll hope he's still available to put on the practice squad - although it will be doubtful he isn't claimed elsewhere .

With the Titans line, Blount's rushing skills are not as much of an asset as an all-around game that he still needs to develop. I have no doubt that what to do with Blount is probably a "good" problem to have.

I don't know if he has what it takes between the ears, but his running was definitely very impressive. I fear he turns into another Travis Henry, though. He's worth keeping an eye on, IMO.
 
Seems he may have anger management issues, opposing defenses will use that to their advantage if he ever does get an opportunity. If he had the unique talent to overcome it that'd be one thing but he doesn't so I wouldn't bet on him doing it. I realize we're talking the end of the bench here, I just feel better about guys like Victor Cruz, Danario Alexander, and Kareem Huggins (guys I've added in August) than I do Blount (already rostered).

 
I don't want guys on my roster that I can't root for. Being since Blount is a punk@zz thug. I will not roster him in any of my leagues.

 
I'm not gonna make any judgements on his off field issues(mostly cuz I dont know enough of the story), but He sure looked good in that last exhibition game. That one play he left his tire tracks all over the wanna be tackler who tried to take him down.

based on that alone, I consider him to be a player of interest.

Then he proceeded to run with authority for the rest of the game.

I was impressed.

I just hope he can keep the other issues in check.

ehh, I don't think Gado or Blount have much of a future, so unless a double CJ/Ringer injury is on the way, this guy is practically worthless.

 
Taking the punch in college out of the scenario, would anyone be talking about the kid throwing a punch in training camp. Same day he did that, the Rams O-Line and D-Line got into a 6-8 player scrum with multiple punches thrown. Anyone read about it in national stories? Nope because it was a non story. Guys throw punches in training camp all the time. He throws a punch in the regular season I'll call him a punk @zz thug.

So far, I see a kid that made a mistake in college, a large one, and did what most guys do in training camp. There are hundreds of punches thrown in camp every year that we never hear anything about..

Still a long shot to do anything in the league considering who he's playing behind...

It's not just that he threw a punch...did you watch the video of the incident? Blount throws the punch then starts dancing around like he's a boxer or something antagonizing the guy...his players had to seperate them. My concern is what if the other players weren't there? These guys are your teammates...throw your punch to let him know you aren't gonna take any flack, then back away. Don't dance around like Cassius Clay running your suck. Just the way he did that = punk @zz thug.

We're talking about the heat of the moment. Analyzing someone who has already blown his cool is useless. His best move would be to learn to just avoid losing his cool, period. But once the monster is out of the cage trying to analyze how he should have lost his temper is fruitless.
 
I think he'll be a target for people looking for a fight/lawsuit at any club he goes to. He'll have to work extra hard to keep his temper in check, since he'll probably get goaded more.

 
I think stashing this guy in a dynasty league will have the same reward that stashing Onterrio Smith had a few years back. I'd prefer using the draft pick on someone else, preferably a guy who isn't backing up a consensus top two fantasy RB. I guess it comes down to how much roster capacity you have to take such a flyer, because he clearly has talent, but I'm not sure the opportunity presents itself quickly enough that he warrants a spot over a contributor.

 
The amount of national press and talk on fantasy forums about this guy will far exceed his accomplishments in the NFL. I won't be shocked if he doesn't make the final team, if he sticks around the team I won't be shocked if he has under 5 carries all year, then cut. The guy is undrafted for a reason and NO, NO, NO he was not a "2nd round talent" who slipped cause of character concerns, he was a 4th/5th round scrub who went undrafted because he is a jerk on and off the field. Blount won't accomplish squat in the NFL, NOTHING, he'll just be talked about and never do a damn thing.

:censored: I'd be willing to bet that after he is cut, we'll hear news stories of his future arrests...violence related of course.
 
I think he'll be a solid NFL player either after he gets away from the buried depth chart. Think Lamont Jordan (Jets days) and Michael Turner (Chargers days). He wasn't drafted because of the off-field incident and his talent is worth paying attention to, especially at such a low price to pick him up in deep dynasty leagues.

I like to group him with Keiland Williams (Redskins) because of the depth in front of him on his current team. It's probably a four year wait before either of these players do anything, but they're both talented.

guys, Ringer is just not very good and will not get goal line carries EVER so Blount is definitely somebody to monitor

I disagree.If he was a 4th or 5th round talent, I dont know that he'd have steamrolled over would be tacklers like he did in the last exhibition game. Thats the type of thing you'd expect from a RB drafted in the top 3 rounds.I'm not saying you are wrong. if he is a jerk it will hinder his ability to become a leader in the dressing room and may also hinder his career. On the other hand, some people do learn from their mistakes, and I would imagine that is why he was invited to camp..... To see if he can overcome this side of himself to become a better person and a better player.with that being said, he definitely showed he has the talent.If he can conquer his other challenges, he could be a very relevant fantasy player eventually.I would not EVER endorse picking him with a high or mid round pick in any format, but in a dynasty format, a late round pick may be a good investment for this guy. In any other format, he is still waiver wire fodder unless Chris Johnson gets hurt. At that point, the story may well change.anyhow, that's my opinion on the matter. I consider him to be a player of interest. nothing more.
 
In dynasty always play the waiting game if you can......

Last year I drafted late in our rookie draft another big 6 foot 1 230 pound RB in Arian Foster.... He was an undrafted and obviously face an up hill battle as he was signed by the Texans. He was then put on their practice roster where I thought he would rot and never ever be heard from again. I released him from my roster making room for some IDP help. :confused:

My lack of patience was a bad move as the Slaton owner quickly swiped him for cheap and late in the season when he was activitated from the practice roster he put up 216 yards on 39 carries.

Houston who was/is still unsure of what they have in Foster drafted who many thought would be a great RB in that offense in Tate. Tate gets injured, Slaton is returning from injury and is the clear back up and Foster has his chance to make a mark and become fantasy relevant.

Those of you saying Blount has no chance and will never be heard from is not entitrely true. Explore all options and hope for the best. I drafted Blount late in this years rookie draft and I am assuming had Stafon Johnson not been injured Blount would have been practice roster material or maybe even cut. Always expect the unexpected and I won't be relasing Blount anytime soon

he is slow and will not ever get goalline opportunities IMO(this is from watching him live, not talking about combine measurables on him this is just "eye-test" stuff and he doesn't pass mine so i guess all opinion but it's just my gut feel that it would be easier for Blount or anyone else to become the #2 after a quick trial by Ringer)i hope i am wrong because i can see CJ3 getting dinged up and with his size was seeing a poor man's RRice in Ringer but he simply can't get to the edge in the NFL

Good post. Every season I read posts from people writing off runners like Foster, Bradshaw, Harrison, and Holmes and a lot of those same guys are singing those players' praises 2-3 years later. Never say never about a player's prospects. The only never(s) in this hobby is "never say never," and never listen to someone that completely writes off players. I may not think as highly about some players as others, but if the guy is getting consideration from an NFL team he has enough talent to make a difference given the right attitude, health, and situation.

I haven't watched him this year, but I remember Ringer looking surprisingly fast last year in the pre-season.

I don't think it's that cut and dried. The guy is on a team behind the best RB in the league last year. A guy that topped 2K yards. Most of the time when a guy does that, the next year he's a shell of himself. I'm not saying CJ3 is done, but don't expect a repeat of 2009 and this is from a guy that traded for CJ3 in the offseason.So if CJ3 gets dinged do you think it's the Ringer show? Or the Ringer Gado show? Let's say CJ3 misses a couple of games and then when he comes back Jeff Fischer decides to limit his goal line carries to keep him healthy. Which of the three guys behind CJ3 has the best physical attributes to be the goal line guy?Stop looking at the guy like a thug and realize the NFL is made up of thugs. Vince Young jacked a dude in the jaw in a strip club. Brother went 8-2 last year. Pac Man Jones is straight up thug life. Brother can play. Half the Bengals are thugs. Michael Vick was winning a lot of ball games while he was killing dogs. Look at skills and opportunity. He has the skills to be a goal line guy on a team that may need a goal line guy.

OK. Looking at skills I see him as a 4th/5th round pick at best, minus the attitude, I liked Jeremiah Johnson a lot more than Blount, Blount really didn't impress me in college, I'm basing what I think of his skills from college, I will admit I didn't see the 4th quarter of that game, I watched most of that game though. If people are impressed by him beating up on a bunch of guys who are about to be cut, then so be it, count me out. All I can go on is his college game and I was unimpressed, he is not a guy I would want on my team, he doesn't pass the eyeball test, not even close.I'll give you that he could be the goal line guy IF he makes the team and IF CJ2K gets injured, seems like a lot of IFs for something (goaline duties) that I don't even consider rosterable in a deep league. Now add his violent temper and garbage attitude and I see a big fat pile of nothing.If you were impressed with him in college, then by all means hold onto him, I seen exactly nothing in college that makes me think this player has the skills to do anything worthwhile.

Sugarcoating by Fisher. He should just say Blount is, was and never will be anything. Good tactics by Fisher though, probably worried about being punched in the fact.

That combination figures to make him a candidate for the eight-man practice squad over the roster. RP Samkon Gado has a good feel for the offense and is much more valuable on special teams. However, he does not catch the ball and might not have the upside of Blount. RP Alvin Pearman, who is also in competition for the last running back spot, does not have a single carry in the preseason. He has experience in the return game, but the team has other options for that role.

I cut Blount based on the string of practice-squad reports on Friday--The Huddle, KFFL and Rotoworld all ran blurbs that Blount was about to be cut. Now that he's made the 53 man roster, I wish I'd have kept him in my dynasty, touchdown heavy league. I have the feeling the Titans caught wind that he probably wouldn't make it through waivers. A strong runner like him on the Titans has some pretty good upside.

Blount has just been cut, leaving Tennessee with 2 RBs on their roster
