Listening to Mike and Mike on the way to work yesterday, they were discussing the "meeting of the top two living legends in sports" at the Yankees game (Peyton and Jeter). While I'm not sold on Jeter being a top 2 living legend, they might be right. But it got me thinking...
It's been awhile since we've done one of these drafts, so let's see if there's interest.
The idea is legends by category.
A. Ball Sports
B. Non-ball sports
C. Music
D. TV
E. Movies
F. Other (politics, religion, whatever)
Each of these 6 would be subdivided into
1. All-time legend
2. Living legend
3. Currently playing (or in categories C-F performing or working) legends
4. Future legends
5. International
This would make 30 rounds. We could combine sports or TV/Movies, but I think these should be easy enough to draft as we aren't looking for obscure selections.
Some of these would overlap, it's entirely possible that the same guy can be currently playing and your all time legend.
Just for an example, you could choose for your ball-sports:
1. All-time legend: Reggie White
2. Living legend: Lawrence Taylor
3. Currently playing: JJ Watt
4. Future legends: Jadeveon Clowney
5. International: Knute Rockne (Norway)
(not saying these are good picks, but they fit the category). You could argue Watt should be in the future legends or LT in the all-time, but White wouldn't fit anywhere else, neither would Clowney. Rockne likely wouldn't be a good fit as international is meant more for world-wide appeal than just a foreign born person.
We could roll with anything from 10-24 people, just gauging interest for now.
One caveat up front - if a person is generally regarded (more than a small minority) as being real, that person is fair game for the draft. I don't want to debate religion here.
TV and Movies are meant to be the actor/actress, but if others want to changes those to characters, that's certainly an option.
Might also add a literary category and combine others. I want to keep it to 6 categories and 5 sub categories.
