LenDale White signs with the Broncos, per league source.

ETA:

LenDale White lands in Denver

Posted by Mike Florio on August 4, 2010 6:56 PM ETThe Seahawks unceremoniously cut running back LenDale White during offseason workouts. To make matter worse, White ended up on the wrong end of a four-game suspension.

We assumed that White would serve his time and eventually be signed by the Bengals.

But necessity intervened in Denver, where running backs like Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter have dropped like flies.

Per a league source, White has signed a two-year deal to join the Broncos.

White entered the league in 2006 as a second-round pick of the Titans. But he wore out his welcome in Tennessee, and with Chris Johnson emerging as a star they simply didn't need him.

But then his college coach, Pete Carroll, decided he didn't want White, and he has been available for the past couple of months.

White will be able to practice with the Broncos and participate in the preseason. He'll then leave for the first four weeks of the season.

That's the missing piece we needed.

But seriously, a healthy Knowshon with LenDale could be a poor man's Tiki Barber/Brandon Jacobs.

That is a pretty destitute version of Thunder and Lightning.
Maybe so, but as a Bronco fan and fantasy football player, I'm looking for every point possible to help "my" team(s)! I am trying to be as optimistic as possible with the Broncos even though the near future might not seem very rosy at this point in time.

And they cut Kolby Smith. Why?

And they cut Kolby Smith. Why?
Because he's not very good and he would have been cut next month anyway?
Lendale White being cut from the Seahawks long before TC should tell you something. If he isn't very good it's a sad state of affairs for the Broncos as he was the #1 back in practice yesterday (obviously with Moreno and Buckhalter hurt).Didn't Colorado just legalize pot? This might be a marriage made in heaven.

Somewhat chagrined to admit this comes from a post defending Chris Brown (hey, the choices were Lendale or Chris Henry), but nailed this one three years ago:

But my main reason for favoring Brown [over Lendale] is that laziness and a sense of entitlement are character traits. And they won't go away. White may have a fire lit under him for a few days or weeks at a time, but he'll always go back to who he is -- which to all outward appearances is a guy that's always gotten by on talent. And he'll keep believing he can do that right up until the minute he's out of the league.

Great call. I will make sure I bump you up in my rankings.

just a guess, but maybe they put Smith in w/ the 1's to see how he looked there? Obviously, they weren't impressed.

Looking at the depth chart for Denver, are any of those backup guys any good?

RB: Knowshon Moreno (inj), Correll Buckhalter (inj), Kolby Smith, Bruce Hall, Lance Ball, Toney Baker

Ball has been getting good reviews and Baker seems to have a following. Don't know anything about Hall.
you think they have a legitimate chance to beat out Lendale? I don't see it. Hall looked decent for the Bills last season, but that was preseason games...

Buckhalter > White. After this news broke I picked White off the waivers in one league and then said, what the hell am I doing?, so I put him back on the ww.

not arguing that, how many teams carry only 2 backs? White is better at the stripe and in short yardage than Buckhalter though. Either way, Buckhalter had his own issues with weed back in the day...

JohnnyU in a nutshellBiggest thing I hate in FF leagues, picking up players on a whim.

You never know. Didn't he have 15 TD's a couple of seasons ago? He also ran for an 80 yard TD that same year.

And that's when he was chubby.

I'm wondering if Fatdale was brought in to play the role of LaMont Jordan from last year - short yardage specialist and game closer (i.e. garbage time carries when and if Denver has a lead in Q4).

In thinking about this signing it makes me think that Denver must feel pretty confident that Moreno and Buckhalter will be ready for the start of the regular season since LenDale would start serving his suspension.

LenDale should get a chance to impress the coaching staff in preseason and I could see where he may steal some goal line touches for Knowshon so his TD numbers may be a bit lower. I have to think that if LenDale makes the final roster the team must see a longer term role in LenDale since he has the 4 game suspension due.

I read somewhere that he's basically just a practice body. Don't expect him to be on the roster when the season starts or after his suspension is up.

Lendale White isn't a banger. I know fans everywhere think he is, but he's just not.His 2008 season where he scored all the TD's was the biggest fluke in the NFL in the past ten years. He practically walked untouched into the endzone on all the td's. He goes down at first contact..nothing like Brandon Jacobs by any stretch of the imagination.

I see LenDale's career path mirroring Ron Dayne's.

Totally true.I remember the frustration as a CJ owner when LenDale would waddle onto the field so he could basically fall forward one yard into the end-zone.

Figures he'd wind up in the Mile High city...thank you, thank you...I'll be here all the week.

LenDale White, Jarvis Moss, and OL Chris Kuper had to be helped off the field today. Kuper looks like an ankle, Moss looks like broken hand, no word on White.
