Leon Washington (RB Patriots) (1 Viewer)

I think he is worth an add.

He was re-signed before the Pats game, and as another person commented on earlier, maybe Vereen got hurt last week in practice and tried to gut it out, and they knew there was a chance that he would miss time, so they got Washington back on the team. They also signed this guy BEFORE week 1 so is salary for the year is guaranteed.

Why?

  • Ridley, Blount and Bolden are similar players. All three are (at most) mediocre receivers out of the backfield.
  • Blount (for anyone that watched Bucs games the last few years) is a horrible pass protector - I was actually surprised that he made the team.
  • Bolden is still hurt (assuming)
I think that Washington can be on the field a lot on Thursday.

I would like to get more opinions on those that have tracked NE the last few years.

How is Ridley's pass blocking?

I don't follow NE closely, But I've been a Brady owner/fan for a while now, so their depth chart is always of interest to me. I was thinking the same thing along the lines of Washington getting a heavy workload on thursday. Brady has always used a pass catching back as a dumpoff when nothing is open downfield. I'd assume the lack of seasoned vets at WR will only lead to more dumpoffs. And like you pointed out earlier, the other RBs don't offer the same skill set Leon does. I'm picking him up and holding. I would not be suprised if he is next weeks WW priority.

Bolden is the most popular choice seemingly in the leagues I'm in.

Leon is the guy I'm watching personally. His upside is substantially lower than Vereen (and maybe even Woodhead last year), but looking at more in terms of a bye week fill in in PPR down the road.

Being going back and forth between Washington and Bolden.

Washington fits the Vereen, Woodhead, Faulk mold for sure and seems like the obvious guy to pick up those snaps but has minimal upside. I think in deeper PPR leagues he could be worth a stash.

Bolden is an option for completely different reasons, actually. If you believe Blount sucks (he does) and Ridley is on a short leash (he is), Bolden might be worth the speculative add. If I'm a Ridley owner, I'd be more inclined to handcuff Bolden.

Leon is the guy you'd play this week and Bolden is more the long term, long term being until Vareen would be back.

I don't know, Ridley looked pretty solid last year. I understand he didn't look good last week but I think Ridley plays well this week, I heard NE has a pretty good coach.

probably because he had some interest from a couple other teams so they were forced to basically piss or get off the pot.

that's just a guess, anyway.

I think he was re-signed because Vereen's backup, Bolden, was hurt and couldn't play Week 1.

yeah, i agree, but I don't know the timeline on bolden's knee -- last i saw him was in pre wk3.

I think they wanted to squeeze an extra guy on the roster and put washington off 'til he wouldn't be due guaranteed money as basically a kr, but bolden's knee probably complicated things, and a couple other teams stepped up on washington, forcing their hand.

Yeah I can't see why anyone would pick up Washington over Bolden, given the choice
Bolden - 2 carrer receptions

Blount - 21 carrer receptions

Ridley - 9 carrer receptions

notice the pattern?
Yes, the misspelling of career.

Vereen (prior to this season)- 8 career receptions
 I always get that one wrong. well played
Couldn't resist.

The main point of my post was that I wouldn't rule out Bolden taking that role (if/when healthy) just because he hasn't caught many passes so far.

Anybody hear anything about his playing time tonight? I haven't seen any news. I picked him up in a few leagues and wouldn't start him, but he's real cheap on the weekly fantasy sites and is tempting.

Dodds has him ranked really high. I'm actually starting him tonight over Ivory*. No clue what to expect though.

*League I went WR-WR-WR-QB and had Vereen get hurt.

I see him either putting up 20 fantasy points or 2. I don't see anything in between. The big plus side is they are so depleted at every skill position that he would be the unknown factor that I could see BB trying to exploit. I probably would roll with him over Ivory. Hopefully he's your flex or else I'm sorry. Losing Vereen hurt me as well, but probably not as much as someone not grabbing a RB until the 5th round. I think if Vereen stayed healthy and I rode him in my flex I would have had a championship team.
