Good matchup, but very risky considering he's had only 10 touches all year. I'd wait and see how Mangenius uses him over the next few weeks before putting him in any starting lineup.

He's a good player to stash away on your roster in the meantime. I've been saying since the summer that he was the most likely RB to contribute this year if Martin was down for the count.

I'm a BIG Jets Fan, and can tell you he does not excite me.

He's mall and goes down as soon as he's hit.

I wouldn't be starting him in any leagues this week, the Colts game is more about keep away with Barlow and Cedric Houston.

At best he's a bye week player. He may have no value at all.

The Running Game in NYJ is NOT very valuable.

The Colts stopped no one running the ball for Jacksonville. If ever there was a RB matchup to exploit for the Jets, this would be it.

I probably will have to start him.. I only have 4 RB's & two are on a bye &

the other is Alexander.. he's about my only chance to get a few points at

the RB# 2 slot..

The Colts stopped no one running the ball for Jacksonville while the Jags were controlling the tempo of the game. If the Colts jump out to a lead on the Jets, I don't think the running game will get on track...

I would add, that Kevan Barlow is NOT as good as Fred Taylor and that Leon Washington is NOT as good as Drew AND the Jets offensive line is NOT as good as the Jags.So if talent is at all factored in: not a good play. JMHO

The Jets are not running the ball this season. It is painfully obvious at this juncture they cannot run block. Which means Coles is going to have a career year.

man, I must have been watching a different game than you... I actually loved the way that Washington improvised unlike Loco Barlow who just runs into the pile every time... he did not go down at first contact at all last week  maybe my TV reception is crappy in my parents basement

A couple of things:

Jets line should be better with Kendall back at LG over the recently released Norm Katnick.

Kevan Barlow remains the primary back, and he scores TDs (two in three games). He's the guy to start, if your'e going to start anyone.

Washington has a shot t the 3rd-down role for now, not more.

Houston will also be active this week.

I think that as we approach the halfway mark, the Jets running game will improve, but I think Coles will ahve a career year b/c he's that good - it has been some three seasons since he's had a real QB throwing him the ball, and now he's showing what he was always capable of.

Laverneous miraculously got his speed back... it took about 3 years (toe injury) but he seems to be as quick as he was pre-washington

Sneaky or desperate?

I do think they will give him more work to see if he can split/replace Barlow long term - obviously depends on your options - I like it a lot more in a PPR league

I am in a PPR league and my only other option would be Buckhalter due to byes. Just saw this too:

"There's speculation that in addition to getting a larger role in the offense against the Colts in Week 4, that Washington could even be a surprise starter, the Newark Star-Ledger reports."

I'm desperate..

I have Alexader out & Tatum & Jacobs on a bye.. had to hit the waiver wire

& roll the dice on him.. at least for 1 week..

I'm really just hoping for around 50 total yards to get a few points.. haha

im desperate as i have tiki barber and willie parker on byes. i like how washington looked last weekend and with indy not good at stopping the run, im taking a chance.

50 total yards seems like a reasonable expectation.

From Fottballguys' Players in the News

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Leon Washington (NYJ) may see more action soon. HC Eric Mangini is believed to be considering an expanded role in his team's offense for the rookie. Washington rushed seven times for 25 yards in Week 3 and also had two receptions for 52 yards. "The more he takes advantage of his opportunities, the more they'll come to him," Mangini said.
I think he may not get the carries Barlow could but will see some passing targets and even if they fall behind (and I expect them to) he will put up some points. If you need a spot start.... he may be the guy. Further, it sounds liek Mangini likes him and if he gets an expanded role could be a good bye week filler with some #2 upside.

A Poor Mans Kevin Faulk, he's just a rookie, and I wouldn't expect much from him this year. He is short, but not small, he's not quite warrick dunn or another smallish back who graced the meadowlands and played under Mangini.

The Jets seem to like him and his stats would be more if not for few calls gone the other way, had a 25yd screen called back last week.

Edit

Oct 16th: 1st day Martin can begin to practice with the team

/me crosses his paws
