Leon Washington (1 Viewer)

I was high on Washington in the preseason and thought of him as a prime sleeper. How likely it is that Washington has actual value at some point this year in redraft...?

Will it help him if Clemens replaces Pennington?

Or does it require an injury to Jones?

For that matter, suppose Jones was out... how valuable would Washington be?

I'm surprised he hasn't made an impact this year outside of special teams. Thoughts?

He was no preseason special but instead a guy that looked good in his first year that seemed to get better and showed his improvement in the preseason. Not giving him the rock enough just slows his development.

The offensive line didnt look sharp to open the season so there's an excuse there I suppose. Jones just notched a 100 yard performance so maybe it's all coming together. In my opinion, he could be a real weapon as a 3rd down back and occasional fillin and Jones' production shouldn't affect him too too much. Even the worst offenses find a way to get the ball in their playmakers hands. Mangini has to find a way. It's nice to see Brad Smith more involved and he sure is exciting but there's no reason to minimize Leon's usage.

Also, IMO the Jets team really seems to feeds off Leon at times. During their slow start they sure needed a spark. I wonder if they'd have won a game or two more if Leon pepped some of them up with a nice play. Football players are weird sometimes like that and just need to get a little fired up to play better. I wonder.

They signed TJ for a reason.

Leon will get his if TJ goes down, but I would be shocked if he is used any more than he already has been before that.

I like Thomas Jones. At no point did I ever think Washington was going to seriously challenge him for carries. But I did think Washington would be more involved in the offense - especially in the passing game. He is arguably the team's biggest playmaker and most explosive offensive player. It would seem to reason then that getting him the ball would be a good idea - especially given how the offense is struggling. But he has had four games with 1 or 0 receptions. I honestly don't understand what's going on there. I'm not a Washington owner but I do like him and I think it's rather shocking how he isn't more a part of the offense. He doesn't have to steal a large number of touches away from Jones either. Give him 5-8 carries but mainly get him the ball 3-4 times a game in the passing game. That would seem to make sense. At least it makes sense to me.

pigskin to both Bri and packersfan. pretty much exactly my thoughts on Leon this year.. great finish to 06. Barlow and Cedric Houston gone and Thomas Jones in.. i thought last years numbers would be a baseline with very plausible upside.

what do yall think? hasnt happened yet or just aint gonna happen? the S/T return TDs are the only thing salvaging him right now..

The "Mangenius" appears to be happy with his whole team in all facets. I doubt Leon has much more value outside of the return game unless TJ gets hurt.

I think the O-line play with the Jets this year has been really bad and it is affecting T. Jones and Pennignton. With that said Jones needs to play at a higher level than he is playing now or I could see Leon getting more and more carries as the season progress.

I've been really surprised that Leon hasn't been used more, especially with the struggling offense. That's not to discredit Thomas Jones, who I think has performed adequately given the state of the O-line and the ineptitude of the offense as a whole. But when you are struggling this much on the offensive side of the ball, to me there is no reason not to find a better way to get the ball into the hands of your biggest playmaker more, Leon Washington. I'd really like to see him come in every 3rd or 4th series, just because of the fact that he is a threat to break a long one any time the ball is in his hands. I'm amazed that this coaching staff hasn't found a way to set him up on a few more screens yet this year, given his ability to make guys miss in open space. No better way for a team that struggles to move the chains to get down the field than a nice 40-60 yard gain on a screen.

Disagree about the O-line effecting Pennington. The pass protection actually hasn't been terrible, it's just Pennington's inability to 1) make strong and accurate throws more than 10 yards down the field and 2) his apparently poor decision making of late, that have hurt his game more than anything.

If Mangini hasn't figured out by now that getting Washington 10 touches a game is a pretty good idea I don't see any reason to believe it'll happen anytime soon.

Washington is flat out playmaker. In pre-season he was ripping off returns, long receptions, big runs, he can make things happen, he just needs the damn ball.

In my Dynasty league, he's top 10 right now with the return yardage/touchdowns.

I think if he's given a significant role on offense, he can be a top 20 RB, especially in ppr, and his upside in return yardage leagues is about ridiculous.
