In recent years, it seems as if there have been better landing spots than this year. Here's a list of the current NFL draft order with a quick mention of what I think might be a good spot and what isn't:
2012 NFL Draft Order
1. Indianapolis Colts (2-14) -- Good landing spot, but won't be a 1st round guy
2. St. Louis Rams (2-14) -- Decent landing spot but will sit behind SJax and won't be a 1st round guy unless they trade down
3. Minnesota Vikings (3-13) -- no (AP, Gerhart)
4. Cleveland Browns (4-12) -- Decent landing spot
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-12) -- Decent landing spot
6. Washington Redskins (5-11) -- Not with Shanahan still in town
7. Jacksonville Jaguars (5-11) -- no (MJD)
8. Miami Dolphins (6-10)* -- no (Bush, Thomas)
8. Carolina Panthers (6-10)* -- no (DeAngelo, Stewart)
*Decided by coin flip at NFL combine
10. Buffalo Bills (6-10) -- no (Spiller, FJax)
11. Seattle Seahawks (7-9)** -- no (Lynch)
11. Kansas City Chiefs (7-9)** -- no (Charles)
**Decided by coin flip at NFL combine
13. Arizona Cardinals (8-8) -- no (Beanie, Ryan Williams)
14. Dallas Cowboys (8-8) -- no (DeMarco, Felix)
15. Philadelphia Eagles (8-8) -- no (McCoy)
16. New York Jets (8-8) -- good landing spot
17. Cincinnati Bengals (from Oakland) (8-8) -- decent (Benson, Scott)
18. San Diego Chargers (8-8) -- no (Mathews)
19. Chicago Bears (8-8) -- no (Forte)
20. Tennessee Titans (9-7) -- no (CJ3)
21. Cincinnati Bengals (9-7) -- decent (Benson, Scott)
22. Cleveland Browns (from Atlanta Falcons) (10-6) -- Decent landing spot
23. Detroit Lions (10-6) -- no (Best, LeShoure, Smith)
24. Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4) -- possibly but not great (Mendenhall, Redman)
25. Denver Broncos (8-8) -- could be very good
26. New York Giants (9-7) no (Bradshaw, Jacobs)
27. Houston Texans (10-6) -- no (Foster)
28. San Francisco 49ers (13-3) -- no (Gore, Hunter)
29. Baltimore Ravens (12-4) -- no (Rice)
30. New England Patriots (from New Orleans) -- no (RBBC, lots of guys)
31. New England Patriots (13-3) -- no (RBBC, lots of guys)
32. Green Bay Packers (15-1) -- decent (Grant, Starks)
While there seems to be a moderate number of spots, none of them jump out as clear good spots to land. I actually think Denver might be the best spot overall followed by the NYJ. Aside from that, there's going to be very little opportunity for almost all the rookie RBs to make an impact in 2012 barring injury.
