Lets talk WW Def (1 Viewer)

Some decent Defenses are on my WW (10 team redraft). I know everyone has different WW Def's avail, but I'm sure there are some similarities. Who has the most upside forward:

Giants - seemed to wake up this week, was this a fluke??? Schedule until their bye (wk 9) is cake.

Titans - Solid all year, pretty easy schedule forward

Chiefs - "D" has been solid, offense waking up a little which helps the "D"

Bucs - very solid "D", their offense scares me, can cause "D" to be on the field too often, especially with Caddy out.

Colts - "D" has been consitant, tough schedule forward.

Who has some insight on WW def's upside....any opinions appreciated, thanks.

Tenn looks good and their bye week is behind them. You can pick them up and just plug them in until at least week 12.

what is everybody's take on San Diego's DEF? They just got dropped in my league (16 team, redraft). Will they bounce back or continue their current state of ineptitude?

btw - standard league scoring

The Chiefs have not allowed a second half touchdown so far this season. The last 2 weeks in particular they've been making a ton of plays leading to fantasy points. That's who I'm using for the time being.

I'm surprised that the Colts D is still available but if they are pick them up However Bob Sanders did leave the game early vs the Broncos. If he misses games uh-oh.

The Buccaneers are back. I like their defense and they play in a division that so far looks to be weak offensively. Good schedule + good talent= success.

No one saw the Giants coming. They've played better on defense the last couple of games but it's tough for me to forget the first 2 games in which they allowed over 80 points.

The Titans have talent but I think they're a little overrated. They took it to Manning but when he needed a play he made one. Plus they were awful last season and have roughly the same personnel minus Pacman Jones. I see them regressing as the season progresses.

So I'd rank them:

1.Colts (With Sanders)

2.Chiefs

3.Bucs

4.Titans

5.Giants

I'm looking to drop them for one of the Def listed above. if they were horrible VS KC @ home, I'm done with them, THEY AREN'T AS TOUGH AS LAST YEAR

Thanks great insight. The Colts have a tough schedule, it scares me. The Giants next 4 games are Jets, Atl, Sf, Mia...pretty easy. Do you guys think they're for real. they've been solid since the 2nd half of the Wash game.

Outside of the New England game I don't see any poor matchups for the Colts defense. San Diego isn't as good as advertised and no one else really has that great of an offense. I like that schedule. Provided Bob Sanders is healthy. The Giants seem to play better on defense right around when Osi started to get healthy. When he was hurt Green Bay and Dallas capitalized. The Giants have a solid defensive line but the back 7 especially the secondary is pretty bad so I don't trust them fully. They have good matchups this month so they could make for a good spot start. Actually outside of weeks 10-11 against Dallas and Detroit the schedule is favorable. Matchups however only tell one part of the story. I don't know that they're talented enough to capitalize on these weak offensive teams.

The Colts after the bye have this stretch, not powerhose offenses, but TOUGH stretch for 4 weeks: @ JAC@ Panthers (assumes Delhome healthy)NEW ENGLAND@ San Diego (might right the ship by then)You are right, not a tough schedule on the surface but 3 away games with teams that can score on a good day, who will be motivated @ home for the Colts, with the New England home game sandwhiched in, this could be a weak FF stretch for their "d".

Anybody going up against David Carr is a good defensive play!!

And before you get too hyped on the Giants Def, remember that Osi was going up against a rookie left tackle that Reid never gave any help to.

Believe me I know, I'm a Giants fan, However look at the next four games, you can't ignore it, Jets, Atl, Sf, Mia. with the confidence they've gained last 2 weeks, this could be a golden stretch of games for the G-men "D"

I'm considering dropping the Ravens D in my $$$ league. The Seahawks, Jags, and Titans are available. I drafted the Ravens in the 7th round! Silly me!!!

Chief's, Jags, Giants, Card's all on my waiver wire.

I am dropping the Charger's for one of them. thinking Card's vs Rams this week. or Chief's vs Jags.

i second the vote of Cards (v Rams). could make a good one-week fix for ya, STL is a mess.
I know the Rams are in shambles. I'm having a tough time getting a read on the Cards. Are they as good as they appear??? They beat Sea & Pitt and their losses were by a FG. Are the Cards a solid team???? Tough to believe.

Cardinals D looks like an emerging sleeper. Personally, I'm trying to offload Vikings D because I think that ship has sailed.

Another vote for ARI. Their run D has shut down some very good RBs and now gets what's left of STL. Not sure of their value moving forward tho.remaining:@STL, CAR, @WAS, BYE, @TB, DET, @CIN, SF, CLE, @SEA, @NO, ATLI like TEN DEF this week vs. ATL. Think that all that running gives the DEF time to rest and the DEF has been nasty. Their schedule looks very good.

With the exception of a decent showing vs. GB, look at who MIN DEF put up those points against weeks 1-4...not alot to write home about. I am thinking of trying to trade them, too.ATL @DET @KC GB

With Minnesota on a bye week, I'll be trying to pick up the Packers D.

They play Chicago this week, which has given up, by far, the most FF points to defenses in the league. The combination of defenses facing Chicago (which includes Detroit, Dallas and Kansas City) has scored 101 points in my league. That would outscore the #1 defense in my format by 11 points.

Assuming I can reacquire Minnesota next week, I might just start picking up whoever is facing the Bears (10 of their next 12 opponents are on the waiver wire in my league).

Minn D is worth shopping around; based on your scoring system, they might be a top 5 defense right now and the Bears will be their last good showing for a while. They've had 2 games now against generally turnover friendly offenses and did little (KC, GB). They're still not getting good pressure on the QB and with their offensive problems, the D is getting worn out by the 4th quarter. You might even have a chance at finding them back on the WW for some nice playoff matchups later.

Lions were on the waiver wire in my league until I picked them up (thankfully) last week.
They are still on the WW in my league and I've been thinking long and hard about it. I'm a Lions fan so I have to take the beer goggles off. I mean they give up the yards but this team has been generating turnovers like crazy. Redding and Rogers really stirring the pot on the inside creating havoc for opposing offensive lines. They've got a so so schedule next 2 games too with Washington and Tampa Bay before it starts to toughen up. I don't know about this week but if they're still around for Tampa I'm all over that like a fat kid on ice cream. Joe Barry and Marinelli will have their team extremely prepared for this one. Throw in the injury to Petitgout and Caddy and Bucs are going to be ripe for the picking.

Just noticed Black Eye Joes SOS Defense and Seatle is looking pretty SWEET-- Any Seatle Homers want to disucss if Seatle has a Real D this year ?

I'm going with WAS against Detroit this week. Coming off a bye, that's one week to prepare for DET. Plus, I won't have to pick up anymore defenses unless they are crappy. Sine they've had their bye their stats look bad overall compared to the others who haven't had their bye.

EDIT: F that. Their schedule is BRUTAL. I'm going with NYG.

I just posted this elsewhere, but thought I'd share here as well:

Actually, a DBC of Tampa Bay and Tennessee looks very tempting from here forward. I just picked up TN's D to compliment Tampa Bays. The schedule forward looks like this:

w5 = TN has Tampa Bay :excited:

w6 = TN & TB play each other (take your pick)

w7 = TB plays Detroit :lmao:

w8 = TB plays Jax; TN plays Oakland (I like both!)

w9 = Ten plays Carolina :loco:

w10 = TN plays Jax (not a great week)

w11 = TB plays ATL

w12 = TB plays Wash; TEN = Cincy =

w13 = TB plays New Orleans (looks better now, than I think it will be)

w14 = TN plays SD (I think SD stays down!)

w15 = TB plays Atlanta; TN plays KC (double fun!!)

w16 = TM plays SF; TN plays the Jets (more fun!!)

This is a schedule that I like!!

Where would you put Arizona on that list?

Detroit is the highest scoring defense in my league (actually, they have outscored each of my top two RB - Fast Willie Parker and Steven Jackson).

21 sacks #1 in the league

6 int tied for #4 in the league

1 defensive TD

6 fumble recoveries tied for #1 in the league

ONly deal is- don't take them if your league penalizes for points allowed or yardage allowed - believe it or not their 30.2 points per game allowed isn't the worst- two others allow more points per game.

Rest of the year please.

The Cardinals is playing a lot better than last year but so far haven't been too spectacular outside of the Steelers game and they scored a special teams TD in that one. I don't think you can rely on those too often.

They have a good matchups the next two games against the Rams and Panthers. The remaining schedule isn't terrible. Only Detroit and Cincinnati in weeks 10-11 and Seattle week 14 would I consider to be bad matchups. Be careful of Cleveland week 13 though.

Overall I'd rank them below the teams I mentioned. They could be good for a spot start or if there are no other options but I would look for other options first.

I just dropped Indy for the Giants. Neither of them look like league-winners, but I like the Giants' upcoming stretch more than the Colts'.

I hope you're right Sonny, thats what I did for this week. I hope it's not like the last time these two played, high scoring.

LJ getting untracked, fresh D. Arrowhead is brutal for younger QBs. KC must feel like a whole new team after last week. Whether that continues or not, we'll see, but I definitely expect it to see it for at least this week. I like it.

I like the idea, but in wk 5, ATL is at TN.In wk 6, I'd go with TN.I missed picking up the TB def last Friday by about 10 minutes. Had been thinking about it for 2 days, then got very busy. I have TN. I could kick myself, 'cause I'd be set at DST .

I just dropped the SD defense. Very disappointing. Pass D is awful.

This week the Ravens face the Alex Smithless 49ers and SF is in the top five offenses giving up fantasy points to Def/STs. In my league that is. I was considering the same thing until I crunched some numbers.

Might be a good play. Although Det has been putting up monster points, their offense is also in the top 5 for giving up points to the DEF/STs in fantasy points and they're on the road.

I have MIN D and Denver D. I really thought that Denver was going to be better. Their secondary is sick, but whats with that line? They can't stop the run. Are they worth keeping? I have Det and Ariz available on waivers, not sure if I should pick either one up and drop Denver D?

I just picked up the cards to throw out against the rams this week. :X

As a MIN owner, Im going with IND def this week over ARI, TEN, NYG in that order of whos available in my league. Although I still might change my mind.

Keep an eye on B. Sanders' status. He's the heart and soul of that D. With out him the Colts are that team that everyone runs for 200 yards on.

Good question. Would anyone dump Denver for one of the above (TN or TB)?

I don't see why not. Denver's LB dropoff is why they can't stop the run, and I don't see that changing. Teams can and will run on them (unlike before). That keeps the D on the field even longer. And they have yet to play Tomlinson or LJ...4 times.Sure, the pass D will be good for a few run-backs, but who needs to pass when you can run all day?
