Linkin Park’s new album with new co-lead singer (1 Viewer)

I did find one existing LP thread, but it was super depressing (for obvious reasons) so I’m starting a new one. The band has added two new members, including a female co-lead singer, and will be releasing a new album in November.

The first single - The Emptiness Machine - is out. On the one hand, it really mimics their traditional style from the early 2000s so it sounds a bit dated. But it’s nice to hear LP rocking again and I have to say the new singer is really good. In fact, it’s not until she comes in that the new single starts to cook.

Looking forward to hearing the rest of the album when it drops.

Can't wait to hear the rest. I've been a huge LP fan since they were just starting out in LA. Prior to my current wife, I was engaged to a girl who was in the same sorority as Mike Shinoda's (the DJ guy) then-girlfriend/now-wife.

It may be slightly incorrect, but I heard how they were discovered was their manager at the time got a call at about 4pm on a Thursday afternoon that the band that was supposed to open for the Black Crowes at the Whiskey-a-Go-Go in Hollywood had backed out last minute and they asked LP to drive up from Long Beach (since Shinoda and I think a couple other bandmates) had gone to Long Beach State a few years prior. The story goes that they packed up their vans in a hurry to battle LA traffic to get up to the Whiskey in time to set up and open for the Crowes, and some producer/industry bigwig heard them at that show and was like "who the hell are these guys???"... and they got signed a few weeks later.

I only saw them once with Chester, and they were awesome live... just a dynamic presence from top to bottom. And as someone who deals with some debilitating mental health struggles, it hit me hard when Chester took his own life.

They're probably in my top-10 overall favorite bands of all time, and since I have even the tiniest bit of a connection to them, it makes it that much better.

Thanks for posting; I had seen on Facebook that this song dropped and I've been meaning to listen. They sound great.

I only saw them once with Chester and I have never seen a concert before or since where the lead singer just poured absolutely everything he had into the performance. I was sure he would collapse before the end of the show.

The new singer is from Dead Sara, which I loved. I think she's great. In the clips I saw from last night, I thought she was trying way too hard with LP. Hopefully she settles into it.

I really thought Dead Sara was going to be the next big band once upon a time, mainly because of her.

Absolutely 100%.

Actually, I have to amend that. I’ve seen them twice. The latter concert is the one I’m talking about. The first time I saw them was when they shot Live in Texas. Pretty cool to have a professional concert video from a show I was at.

Thank you!!! A couple thoughts:

1) Audio from live rock performances unless there’s a bunch of post production are usually pretty unforgiving for vocal performances. I can’t tell you how many live rock shows I’ve been to where I’ve been blown away by the singer, but then underwhelmed when I watch the video I shot on my phone.

2) It sounds like they may have changed the key for a a couple of the tunes, but it’s going to be hard for her to perform vocal parts written for a male and sound as good if it’s not hitting the same place in her range. I think she will sound better on the new songs that are written for her.

3) Even considering 1 and 2 above, I think she sounds damn good in those clips. I’d maybe adjust the mix slightly away from screamo and toward melody, but that’s just personal taste.

4) I might be in love.

I'm definitely in love with her. Have been for a long time. Search YouTube for "Sorry For It All." That one really shows off her voice.

They played the new single on the way into work this morning. I turned it on after it already started so didn't know anything about who it was. Came on after and did the rundown on the new song and I though man, that was really solid. Love her voice, throw back for me to the gritty 80's rock singers. Good stuff

LP is so good. Very creative. As unique as Chester's voice was, I hate to see bands become irrelevant when the singer quits or in this case dies. Imagine if AC/DC had quit. Brian Johnsons was a different yet still awesome front man. And their songs still kicked ***. I like this LP tune. It's not quite as crisp as Meteora's tunes, but it's still solid. Emily's voice is pretty good. They can make great songs with her.

Thanks for posting.

When she started signing I immediately thought oh this reminds me of Evanescence. I’ll show myself to the door.

But I do want to hear more.

LP is an all time band. Unfortunately this reminds me of AiC replacing Layne. I so badly wanted to love it because AiC might be my favorite all time band but I just couldn’t. Will give this version of LP a shot with the same thought, hopefully it’s different this time. Either way it’s good just to hear some new Rock again. It’s been to long.

They were the first opening act for the Offspring at a show I attended years ago. I had never heard of them but was super impressed with her voice live. She killed it on Weatherman.

I’ll definitely be checking out the new LP stuff with her.

I've been lucky to see a lot of good artists live, but never went to see LP. One of my bigger regrets when it comes to concerts.

Yeah that Weatherman song rocked. My wife had showed me a clip of her singing for LP last night, and I didn't realize that she was the former Dead Sara singer. LP isn't really my cup of tea, but I wish her success.

Was supposed to see LP with my daughter in 2015, but Chester broke his ankle and they cancelled the rest of the tour.

Came out of the Boundary Waters with my daughter on July 21, 2017. After 5 days of no contact with the outside world, the first thing we heard on the radio was the news of his death. Sad day.

It's not bad. Seems like they will focus more on Mike Shinoda singing instead of rapping.

I heard something about her being a former scientologist and formerly supporting Danny Masterson, who was convicted of rape. It's interesting because Chester supposedly was abused as a kid. She's since apologized for supporting Masterson and said she misjudged him. More news at 11.

I will be the contrarian, I get what they are trying to do, but new singer, drummer and guitarist? I just think they should have started a whole new band and created new music. The latest song reminds me almost of Paramore. It is way too "popish" I have seen several live LP songs on You Tube and TT, and I just wasn't impressed with Faint or some of the others they were attempting to perform. Maybe she will grow on me, but...

Chester meant a lot to people and I think automatically they are going to be split on this new version. You can already see some of the efforts to cancel her as she is supposedly a big Scientologist (who cares) and went to one of Danny Masterson's court dates (which she has very much clarified). However, that isn't going to stop people from going after her, which is sad.

When lead singers leave bands for whatever reasons, it always seems like camps form. Take Bad Wolves for example. I liked what Tommy Vext put out with them, but the new guy and the new sound just seems like Bad Wolves lite.

She is really good, I listened to the first single you posted. Didn't care for the Shinoda portion.

Man, Chester's family really doesn't like her or that LP is moving on. I can't imagine how tough that is for them to see their son "replaced", but by the same token the other members of LP deserve to continue on.

Exactly. It's a band, it's their careers. This is how they make their money.

I am having a tough time figuring out Linkin Park's place in the world. Gen X rap-rock guys with a female lead singer. Seems iffy.

Their place in this world will be plugging into the nostalgia input for men between the ages of 38-60. And that’s just fine by me.

Yeah, I saw that. If Mike and Joe really did commit to keeping Chester’s mom in the loop and they didn’t, that’s a shame and I wish they would have handled it differently. That aside, moving on is not a sign of disrespect to Chester or his family. And as someone mentioned in the comments in the Jimmy Fallon video I linked, I liked how they had the empty mic stand on stage for the beginning of the performance.

I like the new song. Watched all 3 live shows on YouTube. She's good enough live for me. Anyway first single is a hit, the new album will be a hit, 6 sold-out shows. To late for the haters now, the train is already on the track going full speed ahead.

To be blunt with them... Chester killed himself. Nobody else did it. It's super sad. I loved listening to him sing. But why should LP stop because Chester killed himself? It shouldn't. Nor do they owe his family anything. It will never be the same, but it can still be good.

Yeah I never saw Meatloaf live either.

"It will never be the same, but it can still be good" perfect. Just read the Rolling Stone article with Chester's mom. I'm going to say she and her son are the ones ruining Chester's legacy. It would have been so much better if they would have got on board and supported the band instead of being petty and selfish. In a few years after a few more albums maybe LP can quit playing most of Chester lead songs so his mom won't need to hear Emily screech anymore thru his songs. Then she can ***** about erasing legacys.

IT’S BEEN A little more than 10 years since Riot Games shared the first anthem for the League of Legends World Championship, Imagine Dragons’ 2014 track “Warriors.” The song from the then-rising band spearheaded a decade of epic music collaborations crowning League of Legends‘ biggest competitive moments. Now, the honor is being bestowed on yet another legendary group as Linkin Park’s new song, “Heavy Is the Crown,” becomes the soundtrack for one of the biggest esports events in the world.
