Lions Contact Mike Singletory (1 Viewer)

ESPN's NFL Today has just reported that the Lions are talking to Singletory.
LinkHere are some interesting quotes from Tom "Killer" Kowalsk, local Lions' beat writer:

Cutback: Rivera does not have enough experience to be head coach. Millen is not taking a winger on an unproven HC this time unless he is highly experienced

TomKowalski: MILLEN ISN'T JUST LOOKING AT RESUMES, HE'S LOOKING INTO THE MIND, PASSION AND DESIRE OF A COACH ... HE WANTS TOUGHNESS AND AGGRESSIVENESS ... I WILL BE STUNNED IF THE LIONS ARE A FINESSE TEAM NEXT YEAR ...

Yucatan: Tom, out of these candidates can you please rank or give odds on their chances? Rivera, Saunders, Shwartz, Grimm, Singletary, Ferentz, Carthon>?

TomKowalski: I THINK HASLETT, GRIMM AND RIVERA AND CARTHON ARE UP THERE ... LONGER SHOTS TO SAUNDERS AND SINGLETARY AND FERENTZ AND THAT GROUP ... AGAIN, THAT CAN CHANGE IN THE INTERVIEW PROCESS ... THE LIONS HAVE A SHORT LIST, BUT MILLEN'S KEEPING HIS MIND WIDE OPEN ON THIS ONE ... HE DOESN'T WANT A HIDDEN GEM TO SNEAK BY ...

Yucatan: Tom if you had to bet your first born today(and you're not held to this) lol who is the next HC?

TomKowalski: MY GUESS -- RIGHT NOW AND VERY SUBJECT TO CHANGE -- IS THAT IT'LL BE HASLETT OR GRIMM ...

TomForPresident: Hey Tom, what do you think the chances are that Joey is back next year?

TomKowalski: HARRINGTON'S RETURN IS REALLY BASED SOLELY ON THE NEW HEAD COACH ...

hrstud: Killer, you interviewed Millen. So tell us all right here and now, do you still believe he can get it done??

TomKowalski: I BELIEVE MILLEN BELIEVES HE CAN GET IT DONE ... HE'S ABSOLUTELY CONFIDENCE IN THE TEAM'S TALENT ... HE KNOWS WHERE THEY HAVE ISSUES, BUT HE'S ALSO CONVINCED THAT A BETTER COACH COULD'VE GOTTEN MUCH, MUCH MORE OUT OF THEM ..

Are we going to have threads each time a team interviews someone for a coaching vacancy?
Hi Flwed,Yes. That's pretty much what we do here.

But, multiple times on first two pages? I do not mean to be non-excellent, but happened a few times just today.

If/when Singletary does coach, I'd hate to be a player that screws up on his team. Imagine the feeling of those eyes piercing right through you.

Isn't there a thread pinned for this?
Hi Flawed,Yes, but these individual threads on specific coaches are great. I personally like them better than one giant pinned thread.

My favorite Singletary coaching moment was in 2004 when Ray Lewis was screwing up and Mike Nolan was hot. Nolan was upstairs in the booth while Singletary was on the sidelines. Nolan was yelling at Singletary that Lewis was running the wrong scheme. Singletary says to Nolan, "let me get him and you can tell him." Nolan said, "NO! You talk to him, Mike. C'mon Mike, you can do it" :lmao:

If the Lions hire Haslett i refuse to watch any Lions games next year, and i am a homer.

Given the choice, Millen should take Ron Rivera over Singletary.HOF player doesn't equate to HOF coach. We all know there's only one Ditka. ;)

I'm not sure Singletary is ready of the HC job, but I'd love to him in the DC role. One thing is for sure, you'd get a great effort from the defense every week.

I'm not trying to stir a hornets nest here, honestly...While Singletary is probably well qualified to coach an NFL team, I just can't help thinking that anytime we hear team A is talking to black coach prospect X that they're going through the motions publicly to show everyone that they have interviewed a minority coach. It's a situation with no good solution. It was obviously a problem before they did anything, but now it makes people second guess whether or not they are really interested or just kicking off the dog and pony show.

:goodposting: I would like to see Mike Singletary as an NFL head coach but also feel he needs to be a DC first. I just thought of an interesting question why has he not been a DC before? Why didn't Fisher hire him as his DC in Tenn? Fisher played with him in Chicago.

If there is only one Ditka - does that not give Singletary a shot? That (and the '85 SB) aside I agree on Rivera

...why's Dom Dom Dom, Dom-De-Do-De-Dom Capers gettin' no love here? Dude's a disipline/toughness finatic... with what the Lion's have personell wise, dude would be nails in D-Town...IMO
