Lions D to get a nice boost for MNF (1 Viewer)

ESPN Chicago reports Lions DT Nick Fairley (foot) will make his NFL debut against the Bears on Monday Night Football this week.Fairley has reportedly told friends and family that he's been given the green light this week. The No. 12 overall pick resumed practicing on a limited basis Wednesday. He will play in a backup role behind starters Corey Williams and Ndamukong Suh throughout the season. O/U on Cutler sacks? I'm thinking 5.5. :football:

Suh and Fairley coming up the middle? What you gonna do?

I'm not bumping anything based on an injured rookie getting his first NFL playing time. Maybe he'll be great; more likely he'll look like a rookie.

Lions fan here, but I wouldn't get TOO excited yet. He's coming off an injury that has kept him out of action for a long time. They will likely only mix him in every-so-often to give him some game experience. I doubt they will push him too hard his first game in. Test the foot, and see how it responds. Now NEXT game, if everything is ok, then I would be worried if I were the QB and facing the Lions next week.

Chicago Bears are the 3rd most sacked team in the league, giving up a sack on 11.45% of their passing plays. Detroit Lions are the 5th best, giving up a sack on 3.09% of their passing plays.

After watching him eat 2x teams alive in the national championship game, and having watched many years of Martz offenseive schemes, I feel pretty confident that getting to mix him in even for 20 plays will lead to and additional 2 sacks (for the line not necessarily for him).

Lions D is way over rated. They beat the Chiefs and Vikings the two worst teams in the NFL, TB about the 5th worst team, and Tony R. gave them a victory. I smell a Lion defeat this week. Jay will look like a all pro this week

Also, Calvin on MNF = Not Pretty for Chicago fans

Detroit Teams are on fire! Go Lions and Tigers, and Bears buh-bye!

Serious question, would Suh be a dirty player if he was on the Bears? I don't think you would say it then.

Well, it increases the odds that he's right at least one time. Chiefs stink, Vikings stink...I'll give you that. TB does NOT stink, and say what you will but the Lions D forced the issue and Tony crumbled. No chance Cutler looks like an all-pro against this line. He'll be pissed off and out of the game in his head by halftime.

Nobody knows. Odds are he plays like a rookie but it is Monday Night, Ford Field will be rocking, and Chicago gives up sacks.

The Lions haven't been getting a ton of sacks this year so any additional support Fairley can offer in this area will earn him more playing time quickly.

Gunther said earlier in the season that he doesn't think a lot separates Suh and Fairley, if that is true, look out.

We shut down Forte and we will beat Chicago. Pressure on Cutler is great, but if we let Forte rip off long screen passes, and check downs..the pressure is worthless.

That 89 yard TD rec right before halftime in 2010 still makes me want to vomit.

Yep, just like the Eagles are a "Dream Team."
Yep, just like Cutler is a good QB.
Top 10 talent, strongest arm in the NFL.
I'll still take Drew Brees.......even Matthew Stafford.
I don't question Cutler's talent. I don't question his ability to be a top 10 QB: I DO QUESTION his ability to: 1. block for himself2. run pass patterns, get open, pass it to is open self, and catch his own pass. Cutler needs a Welker type guy/Go to guy like it's nobody's business. Someone that can run the good, quick pass patterns that are required when you only have 1 second in the pocket before the heat is ON you. We've seen what Cutler can do with protection. Say what you want about his "1 winning season in 5 years". Name one top QB that doesn't have a combination of decent to above average protection (see time in the pocket) AND at least one top end/high end WR.Rodgers: below average line...Jennings/Jordy/Finley/JonesBrees: above average line...Colston/Moore/Henderson/Jimmy GrahamAbove Rivers: above average line...VJax (go to)/Gates/FloydBrady: GREAT line...Welker/Gronk/Hernandez/BranchStafford: good line...Calvin/Pettigrew/BurlesonPeyton: very good line...Wayne/Clark/Collie/GarconEli: good line...Nicks/Cruz/ManninghamVick: crappy line...DJax/Maclin/McCoySchaub: good line...AJ/ODMatt Ryan: decent line...Roddy/Julio/Old but still effective GonzoRomo: good line...Austin/Dez/WittenNewton: good line...Steve Smiff/OlsenFitzpatrick: good line...no exceptional brand name WR's...but Stevie Johnson/Nelsen making names for themselvesHasselbeck: good line...Britt/CookI would take EVERY ONE of the WR's listed above before I touched Roy Williams/Bennett/KnoxCutler: terrible line = no time...and with average to below average talent at WR he doesn't stand much of a chance at the top 10.Get him protection and his talent makes average to below average talent into above average and average. Get him a go to guy that needs to be double covered and the other average/below average look much improved.

At least Stafford gets to audible based on the defense. martz doesn't allow his plays to be changed at the line of scrimmage. So Cutler often has to force the ball

I think it will be a close game too.

One winning season in five years in the league, none in college. Very impressive 6/14 for 80 yards, 0 TD and 1 INT (returned for a TD) against Green Bay in the playoffs last year.
When did football become a one person game?

Divisional game. To me, this is going to start speaking on Detroit as playoff contender. Should be a great MNF game! I think Fairly will be sick at some point, but first game coming back from an injury, and he's a rookie, I'll be interested to see how many snap plays he's actually in. I would temper expectations to see how he performs on the field rather than practice. While I do agree the Lions D just got better, I don't think the full impact will be seen until another few weeks.

He's delusional. Suh is not a dirty player and I smell a big win at Ford Field with the crowd and team being pumped up and ready to beat the bears... Shhhhh Chicago...... 97.1 ticket had a dude call in and say that, funniest crap I ever heard. They replay it almost everyday.

Reguardless of the outcome of the game, it's hard not to see it involving Cutler getting abused, unless the Bears are able to have a lot of success on the ground. Very interested to see how that all plays out.

Kid is a rookie with a shortened offseason that got hurt on like the 2nd day of Training Camp and hasn't seen the field in 2 months. I'd temper my expectations a bit.

Should still be a good game though.

Jay Cutler = Jeff GeorgeThe similarities are creepy.
Been saying this for years. Except George had a little more success than Cutler has had in an era when passing numbers weren't insane yet. Wonder if Cutler will still be trying to get signed at 45 when he hasn't played in a decade?
