Lions D vs Claussen (1 Viewer)

Lions D has to be the #1 play this week, right?

Thank you Bears for the Christmas gift during championship week.

From,

A Lions Defense owner

To be honest, cutler would get garbage time yards n points, but with him in there u know there would be tons of turnovers n sacks, young kid might play it tight and they might run more

 Yes a guy who doesnt play often is a much better option. Why do people always think this? If Clausen was good he wouldnt be a back up.

I remember when they used to say that in green bay

Where did i say anything about better, im saying a conservative game plan n lots of runs could be instore, from ff point of view cutler would get sacked n throws alot of picks

I don't think this changes anything, he can't be as turnover prone as Cutler. I still think the Seahawks is the defense of the week. They are facing Ryan Lindley

As bad as Cutler's been, he still managed garbage yards and TDs. I honestly don't think Clausen is capable of scoring a TD in the air. He's that bad.

He was that bad. As a rookie. 4 years ago. On a terrible team.

@SteveRushin: With a win on Sunday Jimmy Clausen would tie Mark Vlasic for most career victories (2) by an NFL quarterback named for a brand of pickle.

Either of these defenses should go nuts, I would prefer the Lions based on what I saw from the Bears this Monday which was total quit. Cards are opposite of that and I don't think Lindley is much worse than Clausen and definitely better coaching there in AZ.

So the only guy in the NFL from Santa Claus, Indiana, gets the gift of a benching the week of Christmas and replaced by Jimmy "Claus"en. Funny to me, but I'm high.

I see the Bears scoring potential going down, but alot less oppurtunity for sacks and turnovers. Lots of screens to Jeffrey and Forte, and little dinks and dunks to Bennett.

LOL at people thinking Clausen will be worse for the Lions D. I guess if you are facing the Detroit D you need to tell yourself something. IMHO, he's going to be bad and best case is he is so conservative that they run a ton so that they lose by fewer points. That said, I just don't see them scoring much at all with Clausen.

I wouldn't feel good about starting Forte, they are going to key on him even more now. Only 1 RB all year has gotten more than 15 PPR points against the Lions without getting around half or more of their points via receptions/receiving yards and that was Blount. Blount had a guy named Brady to help take the pressure off.

Well, not much to go on, but when Clausen did start, he averaged about 3 sacks per game, 150 yards per game passing and almost 1 INT and 1 fumble per start. He just got a little lucky if you look at turnovers, because on 2 of the 9 were lost. I think the only way sacks and turnovers go down is if they are really conservative, but in that case, the Lions D will hold the Bears to very few yards and points and likely score well. If they go down a lot and let Jimmy loose, it could get even worse.

Maybe Jimmy looks like an all-pro, but behind that line, IMHO it will be a fiasco. If the line blocks well and Forte actually picks up a LB, then we also know the Bears blocking last week was a sham.

I think the reason the Bears have quit has a lot to do with Cutler. A change a quarterback might revive this team, even if only for a half.

Remember Matt Flynn..............
Not to mention Colt McCoy earlier this season at Dallas.

I'd still be confident starting the Lions defense but there is a bit of the fear of the unknown here. With Cutler you could pretty much count on sacks and takeaways being there for Detroit. If the Bears crawl into a shell to try and protect Claussen perhaps those risk-taking plays won't be as plentiful.

Why is everyone freaking out about what to do with Jeffery, Forte and Bennett? Why is everyone so excited to play Lions DST now? Have they not seen Cutler play? Clausen is not a clear downgrade.

I still think the Lions are a good play for DST. Top 5 this week for sure. Just don't expect a performance like the Seahawks gave a couple years ago against the Cardinals, I wouldn't even expect a performance like the Rams had against the Raiders.

Pointing out the exception to the rule doesn't make it the rule, it is still the exception.

I dont think people are expecting that, I just think people are saying they are most likely to be the best play. After all we are prognosticating risk vs reward every week and Detroit D looks like a good bet to put up points.

Seattle and Detroit are #1 and #2 and an argument can be made for which one as #1. To expect 2 or 3 defensive TDs is impossible.

Have the Lions even scored a defensive touchdown this season? Maybe one or two? Seems to me like they're due for 2-3 on Sunday :D

We can hope. Although I have them in one league and am playing against them in another.

I love how people always do that as if it proves a point. Want me to list off the times a backups who failed? I'll spare you the extremely long list and we can play a game. You name a QB who has came in and lit it up and I'll name two for every one you mention and we will see who goes longer you can go as far back in time you want, I'll just start with this year.

Flynn has been mentioned, so I'll start with just last week and go with JFF and Weeden in Week 9. Your turn.

You should win some kind of award for that one!

I dont know whats funnier the pickle joke or that this would only be Clausens second career win?

Remember Matt Flynn..............
Right, but that system had a competent QB1 working within it as well.

So, Cutler system = Rodgers system?
Not saying Jimmy will outperform Cutler, but remember McCown last year in this same system. I truly think Cutler has been the root of Chicago's offensive mire.
McCown had a healthy Brandon Marshall and has shown that this year that while he can be bad, he can be good in Tampa Bay. Clausen has only shown that he cannot be good when he was in Carolina. He had the same WRs/TEs as Newton when had a prolific rookie year after Clausen had 1500 yards, 3 TDs and 9 INTs in 13 games/10 starts.

I don't think Cutler has been the entire root of Chicago's mire. He has made a lot of errors and bad passes, but if you watched Monday, the OL and Forte blocking were horrific as well. You normally see RBs/OL get beat, but you don't often see so much mis-communication (which I blame on the coaches and OL) where blitzing LBers are ignored by both the guard and the RB.

If Chicago gets rid of Cutler, which seems to be a safe assumption, they have no QBs on their roster now that are legitimate starters (watch Clausen this week) and next year may be a lot of fun to watch. I could be wrong, but I think far too much blame has gone to just Cutler and that they are going to be in sad shape. He deserves a ton of blame, but he seems to be getting all of it.

The pickle joke is funnier. The second career win for us Panther fans is more sad than funny as a 2nd round pick.

Considering what a train wreck the Bears are right now, I am really looking forward to watching this game.

Is there any chance the Lions pull a Lions and find a way to lose?

I hope not, but whats does previous teams with different players and coaches have to do with this year? They are not the SAME Lions.

Starting Detroit D/ST again. Yes, would be very nice to see a defensive score or two. My only concern is the conservative play calling with Clausen? Cutler played with stupidity even though he's got a strong arm. This lead to turnovers, turnovers, and more turnovers. It's like he didn't care? All that money and he's not a leader. Dumb, dumb, dumb on the Chicago brass for giving him that huge dollar extension!

Back to Detroit D. A top 5 this week for sure. A top 3 absolutely. I hope they end up being the #1 D this week. Sacks will come, an interception or two most likely, a fumble recovery okay, a low scoring game 10-17 points reasonable...Defensive Touchdowns please and thank you!

Sitting Detroit next week versus the Pack.

Same exact plan for me (my league also goes through Week 17). I've been happy with the Detroit D this season. Just would be nice to luck into a TD one of these weeks.

I didn't say they were. Any team could pull a Lions, not just the Lions.

I think this is really bad news for Forte and Jeffrey owners. He might not have as many interceptions, but then again he might. Say what you want about Cutler, but he at least has the ability to move the ball and sustain drives. If I remember anything correctly about Clausen, he sucks pretty bad right?

We said the same thing about Derek Anderson to start the year
No...I think Anderson has always demonstrated ability to move the ball in some fashion.
