Lions RB - Aaron Brown (1 Viewer)

I know it's just preseason but did anyone else watch this guys game highlights. Not sure how big he actually is but he fits the Leon Washington/Darren Sproles mold, could be that guy in Detroit. Judging from preseason the pecking order in DET for RB looks like Kevin Smith, Maurice Morris, and then Aaron Brown.

I think they'd be crazy not to use A. Brown as a punt/kick returner but he looked capable running with the offense albeit against 2nd stringers.

he had a lot of room to run when he got the ball. He did show some decent wheels. After watching the game, I think Allen Ervin was just as impressive, even though the stat line might not suggest that...

I'm glad someone is showing something in the backfield. They have had no depth at RB, and for some reason Cason is still on the team. Will be interesting to see Maurice Morris play.

Cason & Brown seem to be about the same player. They are gonna be able to run around people when there is space, but that's about it. Brown didn't break any tackles on either his long reception or his long run, he just beat the D the outside. The TD run was a cut back where the backside of the D broke contain. Not sure that would have happened against most starting D's. Especially not Green Bay, Chicago, or Minnesota

Cason isn't nearly as fast as Brown in this point in his career. Sure, Brown didn't break any tackles, but Sproles/Washington aren't power runners either. He's unlikely to become an every down back, but I think he has potential as a change of pace back.

comparing this guy to Sproles and Washington is a little ridiculous at this stage...

When did I say he was just as good as them? I'm saying he has a similar running style.

I watched the game and I've studied Brown at TCU. His speed and open field moves are impressive. He's a decent receiver out of the backfield, although he can get better. The reason he's not likely to be more than a No.3 RB at best is he's far and away a better outside runner and he tends to try to bounce everything outside. He's not consistently patient inside, doesn't break tackles extremely well (even arm tackles).

In yesterday's game, Brown's reception TD was the result of catching the ball in a wide open flat with three defenders on that side of the field. The one over top was still getting run off by the WR and didn't turn back to face the RB until Brown already had at least a 5-yard start. The other two defenders didn't have great angles and Brown was able to accelerate past them pretty early in the run.

I wouldn't pick him up in any league right now. He's a fantasy preseason red herring.

Sproles and Washington are probably both more effective running up the gut...i don't understand your point or see many similarities
