PFR's resident Chiefs fan Jason Lisk wrote a good article on this trio (mostly Delaney) at the pfr blog.

The Eric Turner story is one I always found a little scary. Here's a guy playing and NFL game in January and had no idea he had cancer and just thought he had an ulcer. In just a few months he lost over 70 pounds and died. I just always found the speed in which it took him down startling.

I remember the announcement of Delaney's death and it was shocking. Selfless act considering he couldn't swim himself. Sounded like a great man and he was going to be a good one.

Pat Tillman, free safety, Arizona Cardinals, Afghanistan, 2004
Didn't he retire before joining the military? Also, he wasn't killed by the country of Afghanistan.

How many of these guys died from something that happened during a game?
Only one player died during an NFL game (Chuck Hughes of the Lions, 1971). Several other players died from things that were indirectly related to the game (steroids, concussions, etc.).
Don't forget Korey Stringer, who died in practice.

don rogers died within eight days of len bias...

ricky bell suffered from an illness that may have caused him to retire early... he didn't live to see 30.
