Live Auction on Draft Day - Time for Making Picks (1 Viewer)

We are switching to a live auction draft this year. We use RTSports. I have no idea what are good time parameters for a live, 18 round draft. Here are the settings currently. Would appreciate all advice on whether the times we have are in line with your live auction drafts or whether we should make some changes.

  • Each owner has 1 minute to nominate a player.
  • Each owner has 30 seconds to bid on a player.
  • Bid time will reset to 1 minute 15 seconds when a bid is made with less than 1 minute on the clock.

Been doing an auction for a long time....we give 45 seconds to nominate....and 15 seconds for bidding each time a bid is made.

Your times seem a bit long and may make your draft last quite a long time.

I play on RTS as well, those parameters are going to make it a very long auction. 30 seconds to nominate is plenty and i'd say 12 seconds to bid is also plenty. You should try one out on that site, a Draftmaster or something, that way you can get a feel of how it works.

I'm doing a live CBS auction for the first time. My whole league will be at remote locations. Has anyone had any problems with CBS Live auction? Is their anything I need to be worried about?

CBS's live auction room works great.  The league I run has been using it for years to draft and then we transfer the rosters over to MFL to run the league.....MFL's live auction draft room is dreadful because they wont upgrade ever....sad really

No...we draft before cbs requires their league payment....we xfer to MFL because of the customization MFL provides that our league really needs.....I just wish MFL would upgrade to a java based draft room because their live draft room is horrid

Oh ok cool. Thanks for responding. I have a lot of nervous league members thinking something will go wrong. I saw it said everyone needs flash which rules out ipads.

We've run really short bid times before (10-12 seconds) and had problems where network lag (especially on older laptops) meant that players were getting nominated and sold before some owners even saw them go up for bid. For that reason I'd be real hesitant of using bid windows any shorter than 15 seconds.

In the one auction league I run, we start at 30 to nominate / 30 to bid for the first hour, then take a 5-minute break and go 20/20, then down to 15/15 if we go over 2 hours. Seems to work pretty well.

had problems the last 3 or 4 years, one self inflicted (make sure your roster limits are set correctly) but the rest were because of the site.    Bids not being accepted, not being able to nominate, latency, etc...    bad enough that we switched to NFL.com this year just because of the draft issues.

we have used espn to do our drafts the last couple years then moved/imported to yahoo for the season.

yahoo was letting us down year after year on draft night.

Ours sometimes creeped to 4 hours, but then we got an auctioneer who sped it up. Still was north of 3 hours, but damn fun.
