live Grateful Dead (3 Viewers)

Speaking of, what the hell are we supposed to do with all these dubbed cassettes? I just can't bring myself to throwing them away.

How many gigs is the entire collection gunz?
:blackdot: Every flac show I have is over a gig. 2317? Shows?
Flac was after my time. shn>wav was the format of the day. But discovering LMA was a life-changing experience. I started downloading shows anytime I was in the house. Probably ended up with six or seven hundred, mostly the most up-to-date soundboards and every Healy matrix there. When I left Marin County in 2000, I put an ad up on craigslist saying come and get them, and gave away the entire collection 45 minutes after posting the ad with the stipulation he had to take my tape collection too.
a cool (to me anyway) aside to this was that while I helped the guy load everything into his car I noticed a speaker cabinet in the back seat. I said ah what are you building and he said actually I just bought it from a guy who used to work at Alembic. It was apart of the wall of sound.

I think it's around 500 gigs, but that also includes some JGB and Robert Hunter, so not sure exactly how much is GDead.ETA: these aren't FLAC, they're MP3, so much smaller files. Plus, lots of the early stuff is extra small, since those shows were much shorter - think '65-'69.
How much space do you have in dropbox?

:P :banned:

Someone earlier asked about people's favorite years. I said you couldn't go wrong with 77 or 91. I spent some time over the last couple of days spinning random shows. 9/25/91, which is also ##### picks 17 is a really good week IMO. I just wanted to mention it. They have two keyboards going and the sound is tight all around. Fun show.

Spent the morning drive to work listening to the almighty 8/27/72. It really is the greatest Dead show of all time. I've never heard the band as locked in together on so many songs. Jerry's work on Bertha and Playing In The Band is truly outstanding. Add in an all-time China-Rider, legendary Dark Star, excellent versions of Bird Song and Greatest Story. Hot damn.

They released that one in 2013 I think. Do you have it? It will sound a lot better probably. I'll give it a spin today.

I can see why you would love that show. Jerry's really on vocally and it's a great set list. That may be the best Greatest Story, Sugar Magnolia AND Sing Me Back I have heard yet. The thirty minute Dark Star was tight but a bit long for me as usual. I am assuming this was one of the shows where Donna could actually hear herself as she was solid also. "WILL YOU PLEASE GO CHECK ON YOUR KIDS!" The kids tent is....

Fare Thee Well - Celebrating 50 Years of The Grateful Dead

More info can be found at https://www.vettix.org/event/24993

Ticket 1 Section: 122 Row: 34 Seat: 18

Ticket 2 Section: 122 Row: 34 Seat: 17

I paid the shipping and handling fee and got them free. I like the dead but don't love them, ticket prices for this seating area are down to like 40-50 bucks a seat.

ouch, parking is brutal. There have to be private lots that are cheaper like they have for concerts there.
thought id heard only one concert has been held there? taylor swift? might be mixing stories. but yeah, hard to imagine there wont be cash lots enough for all. what they'll cost, im guessing will be a lot.

pretty sure they'll see the ol' hampton pin the miracles to the tree type overflow of free tickets in SC. And that anybody who shows up to Chicago willing to pay face for obstructed or higher level, will certainly get in. the whole demand thing was smoke and mirrors. some vile ####.

there's been a kenny chesney concert and supercross held there already.

SC Pit tickets currently available on TM. Unreal. Would not be at all surprised if somebody takes a swing at Shapiro at some point over the two stands.

If you are serious and want to get rid of a boatload of tapes, you can do what I'm doing with a pile of Phish tapes. At the Magnaball, I will put a box out in front of our RV/tent for folks to take any ones that they want. Kind of a nice feeling to send a youngling home with fresh new music (to them). I bet yours would go fast outside of Solider field.

Trying to decide if I want to attend this cluster of an event this weekend. Can't say I'm that psyched unless the good Sidney is around.
my biggest issue is the transportation in and out of there. I would have preffered it be at oakland so at least I could bart it in
Bart to caltrain doesn't sound that bad. Should have enough time after show to hook up with last BART. Will make for long day I guess

i went mlb, as im told they have the best bandwidth/pipe/whatever the kids are saying. remember the gd were always trailblazers when it came to sound and lighting. hoping the mlb decision in consistent. then again, the fat man aint loggin in today.

the soundcheck from last night sounds awesome. trey is killing it. The shows this weekend are too late for me but I am all in next week. Still incredibly bummed that I am missing it. I have a feeling that in 5 years I will be kicking myself for not shelling out the 5+ grand to attend this. YOLO

especially when you discover you could have gotten a ticket out from for $20 and a swill.

just old phish. show starts at 10 est
Trey is going to kill it for these shows

10x the musician Jerry was. Jerry let the drugs take him away from the music.
:lmao: stop. youre only going to embarrass yourself with this talk.
trey is way more of an accomplished player than Jerry, yeah I get his style and all but technically he cannot sniff trey. Do you really think Jerry could play YEM?

wgaf if jerry "could" play YEM? he never would. and yes, he could have. jerry was working with an entire next level set of tools. canvas. and you really do trey a disservice by speaking of him in those terms.

can't be argued really but jerry deserves credit for trailblazing

Without a doubt. He was a pioneer. He was the man. But he was a degenerate that lost focus half way into his career.
