London Calling - New York Jets (+2.5) v Minnesota Vikings (40.5), 9.30am EST (1 Viewer)

Be sure to set your line ups early ladies and gentlemen, as we embark on the first week of either 12+ hours of uninterrupted football, or an unnecessarily early start for a bad game (except on the West Coast, then add "stupidly" before early), dependent on your location.

Game notes:
- Aaron Rodgers has two full practices after reporting knee swelling earlier in the week and should be fine, similarly Sam Darnold has practiced in full after (iirc) getting a knock in Sunday's game
- TJ Hockenson is out despite logging a limited practice on Friday
- The game takes place in England's best stadium and London's apparent most dangerous suburb, offering a fantastic risk-reward discussion should cheap tickets show on secondary markets

-2.5 seems a tad light to me
Exactly. It's helpful to look at this in a Team A vs. Team B fashion instead of Team QB'd by a future HOFer who is just now getting his mojo back vs Team QB'd by a butt-fumbler ghost seer*** who is playing way over his head.

Team B has the best rush and pass defense DVOA, and it's not even close. Team A is 22nd in total offense and scoring offense

Rodgers has a QBR of 50.4, right behind Justin Fields and just ahead of Bo Nix. He complained about the weather in his last game (57% comp. rate, 0 touchdowns and an 11% sack rate)

Wait till he plays in the same crappy weather after getting off a 7 hour flight against a defense that blitzes almost as much as the Broncos.

The comps shouldn't be Rodgers vs. Darnold, but instead Brian Flores (who should probably be an NFL head coach) vs. Nathaniel Hackett (who should probably be working the blender at Tropical Smoothie in the Encino Town Center)

So yes, this line stinks.

But I've vowed this week to follow Costanza's opposite theory....give me the Jets plus!

NFL+ is like $6.99 a month when you sign up
That will get you streaming rights or services several ways
6th, 13th and 20th so you could just sign up for October and then cut it off

Already bought the ticket for the season, seems unnecessary to have to go thru this to watch these 3 games but it ends up being a nominal fee.
How easy is it to cancel? I hate recurring monthly bills

I'm giving Garret Wilson ONE more chance. Going to bench Dionte Johnson for him as I think the squeaky wheel gets the grease this week and hopefully makes things right.

The Vikings give up like the league worst yards to receivers.

It's the top rated quarterback in The NFL against.....Aaron Rogers.
Sam Darnold revenge game.
The real Vikings once ruled England so The NFL Vikings should feel right at home.
NFL Vikings jumped on the division rival Packers on the road last week then held on for a nice victory.
The Jets forgot there was a game AT HOME last week and mailed it in against the visiting Broncos.
They either bounce back this week or last week was who they are.
I think The Vikings defense gets all over Aaron and The Jets and The Jets defense will HAVE to play a stellar game to keep it close.
How about this for the first Europe game of the season.
Overtime...

Jets suck. Knicks suck. Yankees suck. Oh, and @rockaction sucks.

Many of you have PM’ed me asking for a glimpse into the future which I have to date left unanswered. For this match-up, I’ll give you a window so pull up a chair.

This is Robert Saleh’s final game as a head coach in the NFL. A massive brawl breaks out on the Jets plane back from London. The two sides fight tooth and nail and leave many injured in the violent fracas. Saleh joins the ‘Kick him out of the plane on the tarmac’ side and they narrowly beat the ‘Toss him in the Atlantic’ team. Some players fight both sides to take out festering grudges but also to note that there is no wrong decision in this battle.

This situation puts Netflix in a bind. Coming off their hits Quarterback and Receiver, the 2025 edition of Coach is off to a shaky start. Thankfully, Mike McDaniel is also a participant in the docuseries. After reviewing the footage that they have from these two partial coaching seasons, Netflix pivots and releases the unedited video as a cringe comedy, Dumb and Dumbererest. This film gets a Broadway adaptation which wins a Tony for Best Original Score after the smashing success of its featured anthem There’s No Good Call on 2nd and 3 which was named after the departed coach’s infamous quote from the Monday afternoon Fire Sale(h) press conference announcing the firing. Reporters did not know if Saleh was referring to his offense or his defense with the quote and no one asked any follow-up questions because they were only there at the behest of Rich Eisen who needed a 20 minute opener to introduce his new bit Proper Reaction which ignores all his previous bum-kissing NFL rhetoric and promotes the façade that he knew it all along.

Bravo. I've used Elysium twice in a sentence today. May you dance with minxed up hobgoblins for the rest of your corporeal life and land with Gods when you're done here.

Will you be up watching? Can I count on you at 7:30 A.M. (Mountain Standard or Dateline Time)?

I'll be up, watching, and hopefully fully caffeinated. I'm a little worried about the field conditions but they aren't playing on the baseball field in Oakland so it should be fine.

Grabbed some bangers tonight to cook up in the morning, grabbed some left over Oktoberfest bier from Paulaner
Also have some Ravenous Pig "Swinetoberfest" quite delicious, local Florida
Lot of beer and sausages of different varieties. Klements hot dogs for tomorrow and the Canes game set to kick off in about 25 minutes later tonight

You really think they relieve Saleh of his duties on the plane ride back?
I kind of lean Jets just because their backs are against the wall, it's almost must win for them

I don't think Saleh has the locker room on his side so maybe not that quickly but I could see it this week if tomorrow is a disaster.

I generally agree with you but the 'backs are against the wall' argument can get dicey with an unprepared coach and/or an uninspired team. We'll see.

Investing in the Aarons reunion and Darnold under 246. AR, over 195 & 2+ TD, AJ 50+ rushing & 16+ receiving

Oh, I have to chime in here. They're not firing Saleh during the year. All signs point to that not happening. They don't fire during the year. Woody and Chris Johnson (the owners) wouldn't even fire Adam Gase when players were running routes into each other almost by design. Football is very different from other sports. One can almost see how it will proceed if the Jets don't start winning.

Histrionics. Never underestimate Saleh and Rodgers' ability to create a circus out of misery.
Nathaniel Hackett gets called to account and eventually gets play calling duties removed or is fired, Rodgers speaks publicly against it but goes with it anyway
Then Saleh gets called to account and is on hot seat after that fails to produce results
After that, Saleh lasts until end of year whereupon both Douglas (GM) and Saleh are fired and the Jets start anew.

But I don't think Saleh is getting fired mid-year. I understand what you're saying about the locker room and if tomorrow is a disaster, but sitting through the Zach Wilson experience leads me to believe there's a healthy level of masochism and dysfunction from the top down within the Jets organization and that the coaches will circle the wagons just enough to keep their jobs for the year (besides maybe Hackett).

stupid punt of the day:
Vikings -2.5, AJones anytime TD, Darnold o218.5 yards, Wilson, Jefferson 4+ receptions, Allen, Mundt 1+ reception, o1.5 field goals, +1375

I'm curious to see what strategy Flores uses versus Rodgers. I doubt cover 0, but he will likely blitz frequently. They lead the league in sacks and INTs.

Except for that bad sack, Darnutts looked poised and ready to carve the up vaunted Jets D all day on that first drive.

Lfg Darnutts!
