Peyton Hillis : Ravens will use extra safeties against Hillis12/21/2010 05:43 PMTHE NEWSAccording to Aaron Wilson, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he plans to stack the box with extra safeties to get more players in position to stop Browns running back Peyton Hillis.OUR VIEWHillis is coming off his second game of less than 60 yards in three weeks, and the Ravens have the NFL's fifth-best rushing defense. It's never a good idea to sit your studs, but Hillis could be in for a tough day.
I heard this last night. It's the coach's weekly call-in radio show. So some genius called in and said, "Last time, Hillis really ran all over us. Will you play extra men at the line to stop him this time?" And Harbaugh said, sure, we'll look at dropping a safety down into the box to stop him if that's what it takes. Earth-shattering information. Here's my take - the first Baltimore game was Hillis's coming out party. In the first half, he caught the Ravens totally off guard and rushed 12 times for 72 yards. At halftime, they adjusted and totally shut him down - with one big exception. He did bust off a huge 48-yard run, but otherwise he had 9 carries for 33 yards. I'm not saying to throw out the big run, but I am making the point that once Baltimore realized Cleveland intended to pound the ball with Hillis, they adjusted and did a good job of limiting him, except for that one run.His recent decline, coupled with the fact that Baltimore will be ready for him and did a good job of limiting him later in their first match-up, have me thinking it's going to be another tough week for Hillis owners (of which I am one).
