looks like favre will not start tonite.......... (1 Viewer)

He texted Mariucci on the NFL Network. Stated he is unlikely to play and would not have played yesterday.

The guy's a media whore - he will start tonight so that everybody can call him a "warrior"

I would contend that London Fletcher OWNS the greatest starting streak in the NFL. But nobody talks about it because of the lovefest for Favre. I think Fletchers streak of 200+ games is a far better achievement than that of Favre's considering that Favre goes "untouched" in some games while Fletcher takes multiple and far more violent hits than Favre does every game.

I totally agree. I'm going to hate him even more than I currently do if he actually starts.

Why not just play the first down or even series then get pulled..Wouldnt that constitute a start?

Also, greatest streak in sports is Dimaggio's 56 game hit streak or Gretzky's 51 game points streak.

Fletcher?No...sorry.If anyone is close its Jim Marshall's 270.All are very tough streaks...and while he may not be touched...he is getting chased by guys weighing 100lbs more than him all the time.Break a right hand and you can play on D or on the Oline with a "club". Break your throwing hand playing QB and its hard to throw.

If he does play after telling everyone who will listen he wouldn't have played yesterday it doesn't make him look like a warrior like he probably thinks, but just reaffirms how much of an attention seeker he is. And while all indications are he isn't going to play I still say he does. You can't take Favre seriously with anything he says.

Btw, does anyone actually believe he wouldn't have played yesterday? This team is better off with him sitting...if only because that means they'd run ADP a lot more.

I tend to agree with you.In order for Farve's to be the most important or impressive, would Farve not need to be the toughest?I promise you that if the Vikings swapped him and Adrian Peterson, Farve would not have lasted the 53 games that Peterson has in his streak. And if Peterson only took the hits that Farve did, I think he would have a mighty long streak himself, being the bigger, stronger, more athletic human.

According to Rotoworld, he is not ruled out for tonite yet...So sick of the Brett Favre saga. The guy has sucked this year and now has a bummed shoulder. He can barely throw a football, yet they still think he can play...3 more weeks of this crap and its so long Favre...I sure can't wait.

:goodposting: or cal ripkin
Cal's is just like Farve's, just another (less physical) sport. Gretzky and Dimaggio's are about talent and skill. In the case of Cal, he got pretty lucky and was a hard worker that didn't take games off. Great, but where is the talent or skill in that?Farve's > Cal's

I see this thread has turned into the weekly Favre hate thread. The one where all of the Favre haters check in just to remind each other how much they hate Brett Favre.

It's the same wretched bastards as usual.

lot of haters in this thread.........to be 40 years-old and still playing qb in the nfl is an incredible :) accomplishment folks just don't realize...............carry on

CHRIST I ####### HATE THIS GUY!!!!
Hate is such a strong word. I used to say HATE as a kid when I didn't like something, just like anybody else and my Dad would quickly correct me and remind me that I have no idea what the word "HATE" means.Reading this thread reminds me of that because many of the posters in here have no idea what the word Hate means. You do not HATE Brett Farve. You may not like many of the things he does or how he does them, but trust me you do not Hate. This was actually a very sad thread to read. Christmas being what, 2 weeks away and so many people hating someone they've never met, that has never done anything to them personally or never will.

LOL, that's probably true to a degree but as a first time poster on the topic, I have to say I used to like the guy and admire the streak and accomplishments and all, but MAN, the combination of his compulsion to dramatize everything along with the media's compulsion to report all things Favre has led me to think "Just end this already!!"Its not that I have anything against him or hate him or anything, its just that its a tired and worn out story that needs to go away and since HIM actually going away is the only way to get the media to stop talking about it, that's the way it needs to be.

I don't think ALL the people posting on this hate Favre or anything, they are just want to stop hearing about it every waking moment.

The Favre situaiton is kinda like Christmas music. Nobody hates it. We all will kinda sing along for a while, but by late December, its time for it to go.

Then they should turn off their TV's. Maybe stop listening. Or wait, Favre needs to go away because they just can't handle him being mentioned again in the media. They just can't handle him speak about anything again, or to see a photograph of him. Poor them, being forced to endure this tired and worn out story that is Brett Favre. Please make it go away!Do you need a crying towel? You sound kind of like a spoiled 9 year old. I'm seeing a lot of victim mentality in your post.

Wretched bastards.

It's incredible how little class he shows in everything that he does.
And you are so classy coming into an internet forum and trashing Brett Favre. The funny thing is that it is only an illusion that you have the first clue about him. You haven't walked in the man's shoes.Your post completely lacks class. You're a hypocrite and a wretched *******.

You've said "wretched *******" quite a few times in this thread already.Don't you know any other insults or at least any good ones?

It is the most accurate description of you all. It isn't an insult. It's an observation.

I respect what he's done in the NFL. He's rightfully going to go down as the all time greats. But I now loathe his drama. We get it dude, you're old, tired, and feeling beat up. I don't want to hear his whining on a weekly basis. It was a great story last year when he was old and played at an elite level. He's now old and looks horrible. It's just pathetic at this point. He's doing what happens to many of the greats...hanging on too long.

As much attention as Vick is getting, Brett needs to amp up his "game" to keep up. This is like an aging starlet getting a bad facelift and implants to keep getting movie parts. "Love or hate me.. just don't ignore me"...

You're right....I've never walked in his shoes, but I've never cheated on my woman and never been addicted to pills either. Oh yeah, I've never flipped flopped on retirement a billion times only to come back for a boatload of money. And by the way, you don't know me, you ignorant *******.
I'm sure you would've been a perfect saint had you ended up in Brett Favre's shoes. I'm sure you would have accepted the Packers forcing you to either retire or become a backup QB when you still have a season like 2009 in you. You probably would have even turned down half of the money, and given the other half to charity. You would have played for free. You probably wouldn't have taken pain pills if you were an NFL player. So he wanted to play for the Vikings and show the Packers they made a mistake. He is human. It is football. He didn't do anything wrong, but hey, lets ignore that this is only a game and him retiring and unretiring isn't a big deal. You guys speak as if Brett Favre just needs to do whatever will make him most well thought of in all of your eyes. Why should he live like that?

Oh the irony. Dude.... so many more people want to hear Brett Favre's drama than want to hear your drama. How you have been horribly victimized by having to hear about Brett Favre."I don't want to hear his whining on a weekly basis." ;) "It's just pathetic."This is classic man. Classic.

This is some quality fishing. You're going to need a Bryant boat to carry this haul.

A person judging another person (Farve) calls someone else ignorant for pointing that out?And by the way, you don't know Brett Farve, you.Judging another man for cheating on his wife, especially when his options are greater than yours, is ignorant. This coming from someone who has never cheated. But if we can all be honest and mature about it, our bodies weren't made to be happy, they were made for us to procreate. Procreation doesn't care that we are committed.

I don't recall Dr. Awesome thinking that people wahnt to hear his drama. Although I for one would like to hear about it far more than I want to hear about Favre.People are allowed to dislike professional athletes for whatever reasons they choose, you know. That's part of sports. You are free to like him, and you're free to disagree with the reasons they offer for not liking him, but it's silly to claim that they haven't justified their distaste. They can hate whoever they want. And frankly, they have an awful lot of company when it comes to this particular athlete.

Dr. Awesome is posting how he 'doesn't want to hear his whining on a weekly basis'. By doing this, he is pretty much 1)whining, as the Favre haters do on a weekly basis; and 2) airing his own drama about not wanting to hear Brett's drama... no one cares.A lot of Brett Favre fans... and there are a lot of them (the media knows this), want to hear whether Brett was a little gassy today, or if he had any sugar on his cereal.

Might I inquire if you are going to work this around to Inglorious Basterds? I'd stay for that development. You know, if this is a well thought out plan. If you are just winging this I may have to go elsewhere. Right now, to the question of: "Are you not entertainied?!" I'd have an ambivilent answer. I do, however, have hopes.

You should probably move on because I have no plans to do so. Didn't mean to ignite any hopes that greater things were to come.

Okay, now on the topic. Will the Vikings look better with Tavaris Jackson than Favre at QB? Does it change the game plan at all? Who thrives?

Rice did some damage with Tavaris at QB. I do think Favre may not be as good as a QB as Jackson at this point. Favre at 70% just isn't very good anymore. Yes, he is old. His skills have degraded quickly. Tavaris won't have the feel for the game that Brett does, but he should be fairly decent as a game manager type, who can threaten a defense with his legs and possibly take advantage of having one of the better running backs in the NFL behind him if the coaches put him in the right situations.

I think Tavaris is the type of QB that you have to keep the options limited with. Give him two reads. If those aren't there, maybe give him a safety valve or tell him to try and make something happen with his legs. Have him run a lot of bootlegs off play action and get him in space on the perimeter. Move the pocket for him. Throw in the occasional QB keep to make the defense account for his ability to run.

He was pretty successful back in 2008, and ended the season pretty strongly, with a good run of wins and a good TD to turnover ratio. Nothing spectacular, but some skills that could be utilized by the coaches.
