looks like jack del rio is going back to cali (1 Viewer)

Del Rio sent contract

I actually like Del Rio and think he made the best of the talent he was given to work with, but I know a lot of Jags fans will be screaming "Hallelujah" if he goes.
I disagree. Players don't get better under Jack and that's certainly a sign of poor coaching. Think about it, pretty much every player is about as good as the day the Jags signed them. Some, like Khalif Barnes actually regressed. Rashean Mathis is good, but was good when he showed up and is about the same CB today. If you take out 2007 Garrard's stats look almost identical for any other 16 games stretch of his career. Nelson, Harvey, Groves, Durant, Smith, Ingrim, Uche, are all pretty much the same players they were their first season. So you have three type of Jaguars. A; Good when they showed up and still good. (MJD, Mathis, MSW)

B: Okay when the got here and still okay (Lewis, Smith, Durant)

C: Bad when they got here and still bad (R. Williams, Harvey, Nelson)

So yes, he has been somewhat saddled with an untalented roster. But he also hasn't done much if anything to develop the talent on his roster.

I don't think you're going to worry about Cowher coming here. Not high profile enough and Weaver isn't going to spring for 7 - 8 Mil.

I'd look for them to bring in an NFL OC/DC or a college coach they could get relatively cheaply. But they also want to get somebody who can sell some seats.

One rumor on the Jags board is that GM Gene Smith is a big Kirk Ferentz fan. Everybody seems to be interviewing Leslie Frazier.

Don't know if they'd look at a guy like Utah coach Kyle Whittingham.

Rumor floating around locally the JDR is going to turn down the offer. Could just be playing chicken with Weaver to force a buyout. The two are supposed to meet sometime today.

If Del Rio quits he gives up 15 million guaranteed. Weaver wants him out but doesn't want to pay the cash. Let the games begin.

Looks like he's staying. Pardon me if I am not too excited about it. I guess the one playoff win and 3 collapses are acceptable. Plus, there's the fact that the guy has yet to show that he can properly develop young talent.

The team and Del Rio could have avoided most of this and the Jags now have to deal with a segment of unhappy fans. That's not ideal given the current attendance issues.
