Overreaction by the superintendent but I seriously can't blame him after what just happened in San Bernardino.Nothing from the other school districts in the area so far.
Got to be more than just a phone call for them to close down all the schools and use the word "credible". This isn't some small school district out in the boonies somewhere. It doesn't get much bigger.how many times has someone called in a bomb threat and someone actually found a bomb?

I know. I don't get it. Got to me more to this story. What kind of credible phone/email threat shuts down 1K schools?
A credible one? What kind of credible phone/email threat shuts down 1K schools?
Exactly. Thankfully, they specified LAUSD. I can't imagine the chaos if they had left it open to CA, or the USA, or the universe!A credible one? What kind of credible phone/email threat shuts down 1K schools?
"I'm being 100% serious here! There really, really, really is a bomb. Pinky swear."A credible one? What kind of credible phone/email threat shuts down 1K schools?
Thats not always true...One thing I've noticed about ISIS, or terrorists in general, they rarely make a warning call ahead of time.
My problem with this is the precedent it sets. What happens tomorrow when a board member gets another call?Heard it was a single phone call to lausd board member. Did not mention a specific school, so she closed all of them.Got to be more than just a phone call for them to close down all the schools and use the word "credible". From? That's not what is being reported, the threat was from overseas and electronic. NYC schools received a threat also.Heard it was a single phone call to lausd board member. pretty much every day at lausd.
do you realize how big la unified school district is? Probably has more schools in it than most states. They close schools here based upon the threat of snow. I'd hope they would close on the threat of a bomb. Besides, a bomb threat has a higher chance of being accurate than a weather threat.

They likely just had a much more rational reaction.link? From? That's not what is being reported, the threat was from overseas and electronic. we're in the NYC public schools- not a peep.
I was thinking about that, and since we don't know much about the threat, I just assume they got a tip or caught wind of it. Not necessarily the terrorists announcing their plans.Thats not always true...One thing I've noticed about ISIS, or terrorists in general, they rarely make a warning call ahead of time.
Thanks, posty.Reminds me of high school
We had like 10 threats
And the school was giving a 3000 dollar reward.
So my friend decided to make a threat and take it to the office to turn someone in.
He got to the office and they made him write the threat on paper to make sure it wasn't him.
Sure enough, he wrote it exactly the same and got arrested. Lmao
For now, may he rest in peace.
He shot himself a few years later at the age of 21.
Which is funny, yet true. Even though we all know the kids unprepared on Tuesday, arent going to do anything to get prepared before Wednesday. And countless students unprepared for midterms rejoiced

It's the LAUSD. Gross competence is a given. If it really was one unsubstiated email or call and a school
Board member took it upon herself to make this decision, then its not only an overreaction; given the size of the district and the enormous costs involved, it's gross incompetence IMO. But we'll see.

This is the same school district which two years ago attempted to purchase an iPad for every student, paid Apple MORE than the retail price per iPad, and then found that most teachers had no idea how to use them for instruction and that students were taking them home to play games or selling them. The superintendent then demanded Apple refund the district for the purchase and was refused.
Diehard IIIhow many times has someone called in a bomb threat and someone actually found a bomb?
The program worked out to $2,000 per iPad (and software) - $1.3B for 650,000 iPads. Utter waste even if it had worked. This is the same school district which two years ago attempted to purchase an iPad for every student, paid Apple MORE than the retail price per iPad, and then found that most teachers had no idea how to use them for instruction and that students were taking them home to play games or selling them. Looks like a fair amount of corruption involved. The program worked out to $2,000 per iPad (and software) - $1.3B for 650,000 iPads. Wow. We're thinking about going "1-for-1" at my school but we've got less than 1000 kids. The program worked out to $2,000 per iPad (and software) - $1.3B for 650,000 iPads.
