Los Angeles Schools Closed Today Due to 'Credible' Bomb Threat (1 Viewer)

how many times has someone called in a bomb threat and someone actually found a bomb?
Got to be more than just a phone call for them to close down all the schools and use the word "credible". This isn't some small school district out in the boonies somewhere. It doesn't get much bigger.

They close schools here based upon the threat of snow. I'd hope they would close on the threat of a bomb. Besides, a bomb threat has a higher chance of being accurate than a weather threat.

Heard it was a single phone call to lausd board member. Did not mention a specific school, so she closed all of them.
My problem with this is the precedent it sets. What happens tomorrow when a board member gets another call?

From? That's not what is being reported, the threat was from overseas and electronic. NYC schools received a threat also.

Reminds me of high school

We had like 10 threats

And the school was giving a 3000 dollar reward.

So my friend decided to make a threat and take it to the office to turn someone in.

He got to the office and they made him write the threat on paper to make sure it wasn't him.

Sure enough, he wrote it exactly the same and got arrested. Lmao

For now, may he rest in peace.

He shot himself a few years later at the age of 21.

They likely just had a much more rational reaction.

If it really was one unsubstiated email or call and a school

Board member took it upon herself to make this decision, then its not only an overreaction; given the size of the district and the enormous costs involved, it's gross incompetence IMO. But we'll see.

It's the LAUSD. Gross competence is a given.

1100 schools, 650,000 students, 31,000 teachers.

That's just a recipe for failure. Break that #### up.

This is the same school district which two years ago attempted to purchase an iPad for every student, paid Apple MORE than the retail price per iPad, and then found that most teachers had no idea how to use them for instruction and that students were taking them home to play games or selling them. The superintendent then demanded Apple refund the district for the purchase and was refused.

The program worked out to $2,000 per iPad (and software) - $1.3B for 650,000 iPads. Utter waste even if it had worked.

Looks like a fair amount of corruption involved.

Wow. We're thinking about going "1-for-1" at my school but we've got less than 1000 kids.
