Lots of exciting trades happening today huh (1 Viewer)

I can't believe NFL trade deadline day is so quiet!

I still remember where I was when Ronnie Brown was traded to the Lions, then the deal was voided.

Asked Bill Belichick if he had sense a trade might be made today, and he responded by saying he's been watching Denver film all morning.
Wow.
Manning for Brady. You heard it here first.
Guys, New England plays Denver this week. Belicheck was putting the media off, as usual.
Thanks for deciphering that for us, Inspector.

The NFL should try to encourage trades. They are in the entertainment business and trades create interest and excitement and could help out teams like the Bucs who are, from all accounts, out of playoff contention early and they are willing to trade surplus players for picks or players that could help them in future seasons.

One obstacle impeding trades is the salary cap and that is one area that the NFL could provide incentives. Nothing major but why not have the NFL reduce the salary cap for older players by a certain percentage that would encourage trades but not skew the playing field dramatically but would allow veteran players on losing teams the opportunity to go to a contender so they could finish off the careers with a shot at a title and help out a team who is out of it?

To make it even more interesting why not make the NFL incentive go into effect only for trades that involve 3rd round draft picks or higher and only if the team trading a veteran player had a below .500 winning percentage to make sure that the rich don't get richer if say some top team was loaded at a position but were butted-up against the salary cap and wanted an easy out?

I think its possible and the trade deadline would have more importance and fans would get into it more and GMs around the league would also be more keyed into potential trade possibilities.

You are very welcome. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance!

You know the trade deadline is meaningless when NFL network shows a game replay from sunday rather than deadline coverage.

I think the bigger issue is that teams often are way too attached to their mid and late round draft picks. Maybe that has to do with getting cheap backups/special teamers, etc but I don't think salary cap is a barrier at all in the case of a guy like Martin.

They're trading for Demaryius Thomas?
Exactly. They studied the film, realized what an asset he is and are now going to try to trade for him.
Gronk for Demaryius. Denver starts running 3 TE sets as their base formation.

I think trades would happen if they set up war rooms and TV coverage like the they do with draft and the combine.

they need to push it further back in the season

Too may teams are still in contention

Yeah Martin is still on his rookie deal, so he's actually pretty cheap

I'm sure Goddell would like nothing better than to change the deadline to say 10:00 pm and have a live show where they announce trade after trade.

Boomer: 'This just in, Geno Stinks has been traded to Denver'. 'What do you guys make of this? 'Is it the demise of Peyton Manning?'.

Rams traded fourth- and sixth- round picks to Buccaneers for S Mark Barron, per source.
Great return on investment for the 7th overall. I wanted Keuchly so bad. This franchise is inept.
He's a below average player, but if the Bucs take Kuechly there's no way they take Lavonte David in the 2nd. And I'd rather have David than Kuechly.
He's been a disappointment, but the Bucs are selling him at firesale prices.

Horrible return on that pick. The pick was questioned at the time taking a S so high in the draft. Horrible.

Yep, sucks that's all we could get from a 7th overall pick from a few years ago, but that was a mistake made by the last regime. Really goes to show how bad this franchise is/has been lately. The sad thing is that with the new regime things aren't looking any better.

To think they could have had Tannehill if they weren't set with freeman.
