Lots of ugly football this year (1 Viewer)

Oakland

Kansas City

Pittsburgh

Baltimore

Cincinnati

Cleveland

NY Jets

New England

Miami

Tennessee

Jacksonville

Arizona

Minnesota

Tampa Bay

Not all of these teams are bad- some of them will no doubt be going to the playoffs. What they all are is BORING. They play ugly football and it's not entertaining. If any of these teams play each other, I probably won't be watching (with the exception of the Steelers, and that is pure masochism.)

The NFL needs to be a better product. Thank the gods for Philadelphia this year.

Several of those teams are just stronger on the defensive side of the ball. That is still part of the game, you know.

I think its more the prime time games have been bad. I don't understand why you listed the teams you did.

Minni, Cincy, Arizona all have fantasy players who had huge weeks and are a threat to score on almost any play. What else can you ask for as a fan?

You obviously didn't watch the Oakland-Indy game.

Pryor might not be ready to lead us to a title, but one thing he's not? BORING.

Fair enough. I watched them in preseason, and then I read critiques of Pryor that were not very good. But I'll take your word that they're more entertaining with him in there.

By a mile.

IIRC this year there were far fewer practices in camp and before the season due to the CBA. So you've got more rust than usual.

This... think about what we've had so far this season through one week.

Most passing touchdowns in a single week EVER. Most safeties in a single week in a LONG time. Last week had to come close to setting a record for most turnovers in a single week? I'm not sure if there's a stat out there for that anywhere. But we had several players who had multiple fumbles and almost every QB tossed an INT or two. It was just a very ugly week of football and if I had to put my money on why it'd be these new bull#### CBA rules that are probably going to now ruin the game for awhile. Because these starts to the season just aren't the same. We don't have as many practices in pads with contact, not even close. It's going to take all these teams 1-2 weeks of practice and games to really get into a football groove. It sucks, but what can we do but just ride the wave and hope for the best?

This year, football is boring. The only thing that reminds me of the good old days when football used to be exciting is the Eagles, who are running an offense being used for the first time in the NFL, ever.

I really can't get over this whole Eagles thing everyone is completely freaking out about... maybe it's cause I'm a Giants fan and I'm in denial? But honestly, what was so great about that game? I watched the whole game and short of LeSean McCoy being a beast (what else is new?) what I saw was the Eagles getting handed 3 first half turnovers and taking advantage of them.

- The offense was a college offense in the NFL, it won't last more than a few weeks if I had to guess

- Michael Vick is going to be dead by Week 3. Not injured but dead.

- LeSean McCoy won't last a season with that much work

- I think we saw what this team will ACTUALLY be in the second half when they didn't look even remotely impressive.

I really think people are being ridiculous, they weren't that impressive. The Redskins were more of a mess than the Eagles were impressive. Even when they were moving the ball I wasn't really 'amazed' by what they were doing, it wasn't any type of ground breaking offense it was quick short routes for the most part. I feel like what we're really seeing here is a lot of people wanted Chip Kelly's offense to be amazing and it was good by a result of more time of possession than they'll have in most any other game this season. If the Redskins don't have 3 turnovers in that first half and RG3 wasn't a little rusty? They win that game EASILY like not even close.

I don't know what to take from that game as a Eagles fan. The O-Line is healthy and dominant, so is McCoy(duh). Vick's TD drives were on short fields. In the 2nd halft he couldn't complete a pass. People are saying Chip took his foot off the gas, I say our QB showed his flaws with inaccuracy and couldn't keep drives going. The answer is probably somewhere in the middle with how both halfs played out. If McCoy or Vick go down, Bryce Brown and Nick Foles are more than ready to produce Mr. Giants fan :-D

First month is always bad anymore because they hold back so much in preseason. Now the new rules that cut back on hitting make it even more sloppy. By October it'll pick up.

What's boring for me is that every rule is so specific in detail that every catch, tackle, fumble. TD, etc. that isn't textbook perfect forces the game to stop so the play can be reviewed.

It's even worse when I'm not near a TV and rely on play by play updates on my phone, which goes like this:

3rd and 1 at the goal line:

Refresh. Nothing.

Refresh. Nothing.

Refresh. Nothing.

Refresh. Nothing.

Refresh. Nothing.

Refresh. Nothing.

Refresh. Nothing.

Refresh. Nothing.

Refresh. TOUCHDOWN. Play Under Review.

Refresh. Nothing.

Refresh. Nothing....

Go watch baseball and then tell me the Nfl is boring.
NFL game pace is heading there.... Makes me wonder if this will be the downfall in Chip Kelly's storming of the league. Hard to run a fast/hurry-up offense when every other play is being reviewed.

It's the NFL, Tim. There are always going to be defensive games. There aren't enough elite QB's, WR's and Olinemen out there to allow every team to be like Denver.

For every great offensive player, there is a great defensive player.

The game last night seemed bad because there were a ton of mistakes by rookies. But this is the nature of the NFL. Ordinarily, guys like Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins would be learning in practice and getting on the field occasionally to get the jitters out. Instead they are thrust into huge rules from the get-go.

The Pats are without Vereen, Gronk and Amendola, and missing Welker and Hernandez from last year. Geno Smith is a rookie. So, last night was no surprise.

At least you seem to be mildly realistic as an Eagles fan. I live right around that Eagles/Giants border in NJ so I have to deal with both ends of the spectrum. Every Eagles fan I know (facebook, twitter, in person) makes it sound like the Eagles already won the Super Bowl. I agree with you're analysis of the second half... I saw a Michael Vick that looked more like 2012 Vick instead of 2010 Vick. Which lets face it, most of us know that 2010 Vick was a pretty big mirage. I don't know that I'd call the O-Line dominant though... maybe it's just the scheme though. McCoy had running lanes for days but Vick was getting destroyed. I can't recall more than a handful of plays where he wasn't being pulled off the field after the whistle blew. I really don't know how he'll last half a season like that. It's not all on the o-line though, Vick seems to just ignore blitz pickups and lets himself get destroyed. So that's his own fault.

In the end, all I'm really saying is I'd like to see it for real in a game where they're not just getting tons of turnovers handed their way. Cause when the turnovers stopped coming the Eagles stopped flying and you can say they started to get conservative but it concerns me from the standpoint people are at right now of "If you don't own Eagles players you're not going to win fantasy this year".

Can't review if the next play is already run.
You do realize the Eagles were slower to the snap than several teams this weekend? This is what I'm talking about with this weird notion that the Eagles looked amazing. People seem to be wearing beer goggles and ignoring the fact that the BUFFALO BILLS ran a better hurry up than the Eagles by a good 2 seconds per play.

So when Vick gets hurt in another week and McCoy goes down soon after, will it still be exciting to watch scrubs flounder around? Enjoy the next month Eagles fans, it's gonna be a long season again.

Buffalo only netted 287 total yards and 14 points on offense after all was said and done. They lost.

Philly netted 443 yards with 28 offensive points and won.

I wouldn't say Buffalo did it better....

On a side note, I'm not a big fan of Philly or the Chip Kelly offense. I'm not one of these people who think Chip is going to change the face of the NFL. I don't think it'll last. The whole point to the hurry up is to wear a defense down fast. That aint going to happen the way the pace of the game seems to be slowing down (reviews, penalties, etc.) which gives Ds the opportunity for a blow. That was my only point.

That's certainly true. Then again if you're the defense and need a blow, a minor penalty will certainly give it to you.

Of course. But it's not entertaining. Offenses that go 3 and out over and over and over- who wants to watch it?
:hi:Defensive football is just as entertaining.

Vick was getting destroyed because he still can't recognize a blitz and habitually holds the ball too long. I think the Eagles offense is for real and will put up 28 most weeks.....very good O-line and a ton of weapons will more than compensate for Vick's deficiencies. But I also think that the Eagles defense is average at best, and the offensive pace will hurt them at times. It's an 8-8 or 9-7 team, but it IS EXCITING!

Did you watch the game? Obviously not. They set a record for plays in the first half. Once they were up 20+ in the second half, they went into the 4 minute drill, using every second of the play clock and calling mostly running plays.
