Louie - new FX comedy (1 Viewer)

Just finished it and wasn't sure how I felt. very interesting and original premise though, that much is for sure. The standup had me laughing a lot more than the sketches (or whatever they were) I will be back next week though.

First episode was very boring imo but the second one was much stronger.that whole opening poker scene with all the comics was brilliant

almost my thoughts exactly. stop with the standup. i didn't laugh once during those routines. seinfeld tried that first, so whoever said it was original never saw that show.he's got the wife from lucky louie on as a consulting producer or something. i thought that show was WAY better than this one, but i am willing to stick with it. two episodes every week?

way to suck any joy out of the show, debbie downer...

I liked it. Does anyone know if the story about the origin of the word ###### is true?
It is sometimes claimed that the modern slang meaning developed from the standard meaning of "######" as "bundle of sticks for burning," presumably with reference to burning at the stake.[8] This is, however, unlikely to be the case,[8] and there is no tradition of burning at the stake being used as a punishment for homosexuality in Britain,[11][12] although supposed witches and heretics were burnt to death in other parts of Europe, and were often accused of deviant sexual behaviour.[13]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/######_%28slang%29Ha, the ###### board censored the link so it doesn't work.

I was not really buying the story as it was being told but you never know.

Wondered how he got his stage name.

==========================

Louis Szekely is the son of Mary and Luis Szekely. His mother was of Irish Catholic descent and his father was of Mexican Catholic and Hungarian Jewish ancestry. Szekely grew up in Massachusetts. His family pronounces their surname as [se'-ke], and in his grade-school years he resorted to "C.K." as an easy way to get his name pronounced correctly. He married New York artist and painter Alix Bailey; they divorced in 2008. He has two daughters from the marriage.

Didn't think the first EP was very good. A couple of funny spots on his date. I agree with whoever said above that they need to cut out the stand-up bits. It just doesn't work and I'm a huge fan of his stand-up.

Only watched the first part of the poker game. Good stuff there.

watched them both last night and thought they were great.

Episode 1 was so-so. First half wasn't terribly amusing but the second half was much better. i loved the girl rushing off into the chopper. random but strangely apropos...

Episode 2 - funny from start to finish.

i don't mind the stand-up segues either. they're funny even if they are more of a tangent than anything...

Still haven't seen the show, but I killed an hour watching old clips of his stand-up on YouTube.

I am sure this would be debated by many, but I think he is the best stand-up guy going right now (that I have seen).

ive never heard of or seen this guy before. But checked this show out. it was pretty funny. I will watch it again.
Check out his standup work. He's the best out there these days. I think at least one of his specials is available on live streaming on Netflix On Demand.

Wow, tonight's episode was pretty .... awful.
meh. it wasn't bad, imo, but it just wasn't a laugh riot. it's very much what the promos say it is: "drama" and "comedy". i think we all just want there to be more comedy. three episodes in, i still don't have any real understanding of the guy or the world he inhabits in the show. i don't mind taking time to absorb it all though.

Interesting...never noticed that. I went in expecting more comedy, like you said. Maybe I need to watch with a different perspective

Didnt think yesterdays was as good as the first two, but still decent. Im in the minority, but I think the 1st episode is the best so far.

I don't see it keeping me from turning over to the Daily Show after Rescue Me much longer.

Time to admit you're just a stand-up, Louis.

Just got presale tickets for his standup in Fort Worth at Bass Hall in November. Has anyone seen him live at a show? Other than on television? I tend to really enjoy live stand up - but some comics I have seen have failed big time - usually in the smaller clubs if they have been drinking before or during the show. My guess is that he will be great.

All three episodes have been a mixed bag. But despite some flaws, the show consistently delivers laughs with every episode.

He's the best stand-up comedian going today. What more needs to be said?

Sidenote: The chick that plays the playdate mom in tonight's episode (same chick played his wife in 'Lucky Louie') was the voice of Bobby Hill.

Catch it quick. Sure to be canceled.
Why?
Only cause he seems to have terrible luck with most anything he touches. For some reason the public likes him a lot but he can't keep a steady gig.
I hated his HBO show. I decided to give this one a chance based on his Conan interview. I am now a huge fan of the FX version. I see them very differently, even though I cannot tell you exactly why.

The HBO show was flawed. It's like he needed that first show to work out kinks. The new show is a lot better, and shaping up to be the best current comedy on TV.
