Louie - new FX comedy (1 Viewer)

Catch it quick. Sure to be canceled.
Why?
Only cause he seems to have terrible luck with most anything he touches. For some reason the public likes him a lot but he can't keep a steady gig.
I hated his HBO show. I decided to give this one a chance based on his Conan interview. I am now a huge fan of the FX version. I see them very differently, even though I cannot tell you exactly why.
Being a CK fan but hating his HBO show, I was on the fence after the first two episodes of Louie. Last night's episode (#3?) made me a fan.

The HBO show was flawed. It's like he needed that first show to work out kinks. The new show is a lot better, and shaping up to be the best current comedy on TV.
I havent seen last night's episode yet, but I cant imagine just 1 episode changing my mind into thinking it has the potential to be the best comedy on TV. Its nowhere near Curb, Its Always Sunny, or my own ### #### fan-#######-tastic show.

I am a big Curb fan, but last season was its weakest. Alway Sunny is VERY good. But I think Louis is a cut above. I am a huge fan of Eastbound and Down, so I'll agree with you there.

I dont want to hijack the thread, but I thought the last season of Curb was great. So many episodes I can remember by name tells me that - Vehicular Fellatio, Denise Handicapped, the Black Swan, the Bare Midriff, Funkhouser's Crazy Sister. I thought Denise Handicapped was 1 of the best episodes of the series. Throw in all the Seinfeld stuff, and I thought the last season was

Haven't caught up with last night's episode either, but my take so far on Louis is it's 2 hits per every miss, which is pretty damn good. Gervais was ####### money last week, had me crying. That's as funny as that guy can be, and that's a funny guy.

Nick DiPaolo, on the other hand, needs to go. Shock comedy went away with Dice. GTFO

Don't get me wrong: I enjoyed the season. I just think it was the weakest of the series.

I've liked every episode. He's letting his co-stars have some of the best lines. It's already a show where I can't wait for the next episode.

I was rolling when Gervais moved his finger in and out. :lmao: What's the story with that DiPaolo segment when they were arguing at the table. I had heard they got into a fight and could have sworn that was the same audio. Was that fight real or was it all publicity? It was a couple of months ago.

Some ####ty extra on the show secretly taped their "fight", which was always part of the show, and released it as if they were actually fighting. Dumb.

oh, ok...thanks. I knew it sounded familiar.

This show reminds me a lot of Curb, just with a likeable male lead.

Larry David is someone I want to punch in the throat.

I love CK's stand-up. His HBO show wasn't so great. This new show shows promise. But I can see CK's "woah is me" shtick getting old real quick. I can only stand watching "Curb" about once very few months because Larry David can only be tolerated in small doses. I was talking to my wife about this last night. There's something really off-putting about a grown man, with his own televison show, complaining about life.

I like this show, I am not real familiar with Louie CK other than from that sitcom with the blond chick, the funny hindu, and the dude with a mustache... but I caught the show's intro and saw him eating a slice, so I figured I'd give it a shot. All 4 episodes have made me giggle... and feel slightly less old - so there's that.

Some of my favorite lines were the one where he tried to move the black kids next to the windows on the bus, the "I'm sure it's not supposed to go in and out like that" line and most of his lines from when he was porking the young chick "I was born in 1967" :wolf:

this is very true and i appreciate that. it kind of helps construct c.k.'s world a little bit better for me. if it's just going to be a series of one off's - 10 min little scenes - instead of a cast of characters then this is the way to do it.

I liken this to Chris Rock. Rock's rich and famous, but he's still black. So that hasn't gone away. And while Louis C.K. is also somewhat rich and famous, this anxiety we feel as we age doesn't disappear. C.K.'s material is funny to me because it's honest. And while he is very successful, he did spend the majority of his life being anonymous and unsuccessful.

Good point. I think it's just something personal. I have a hard time identifying with people that are miserable/manic all the time. Woody Allen, Larry David etc.

I understand. For me, I don't identify with Larry David at all. I see him as a gross exaggeration of the inner dialogue many of us engage in, however. When we stand in line and watch an annoying person talking to the clerk for five minutes while we are in a hurry, we don't say anything. David says something. It's almost like a comedic wish-fulfillment.

You two book a room yet?

Is it just my imagination, or was this show on before Rescue Me the past couple of weeks?

11:00 pm seems very late to show a first-run episode of a show like this.

It was always on after Rescue Me here in Arizona

The sequence with the airplane crashing was one of the funniest things I've seen on television in a long time.

Weak episode this time around. Other than the security checkpoint and the turbulence, not much happening.

Although his check-in at the airport was stunningly perfect.

Yeah, I'm on the 11:30 to Birmingham

And what is your destination?

Birmingham

And what time is your flight?

11:30
