Lower End WR Values Now (1 Viewer)

I thought it would be useful to all of us to get differing opinions on the values of the non-elite and non-solid WR2 receivers. After the Lav Coles and Darrell Jackson types, things get dicey.

Here is my current list (Editing based on input - I'd like this to be representative of many on the board):

*Bolded players are the guys that are generating the most discussion/dissent*

NOTE: Edited again - I liked the additional tier idea and added one. And I'm bolding players whose ranking is generating discussion, as this may highlight guys where opinions differ.

For me, this is a more effective tiering for the season outlook. Everyone wants a WR3 in that 1st tier. We're scouring the waivers for a guy that can at least be in the 2nd tier for good depth. Any thoughts on who is tiered where?

1. Top Tier WR3s: (Close to WR2; You can pretty much start at will)

Jerricho Cotchery

Santonio Holmes

Ronald Curry

Calvin Johnson

Reggie Brown

Chris Chambers

Bernard Berrian

Deion Branch (Some questions to answer - this week should show that he needs to move back up)

2. Some Questions, but Should Be Relatively Solid:

Braylon Edwards (QB issue hard to ignore...)

Wes Welker

Patrick Crayton

Mark Clayton

Kevin Curtis

Brandon Marshall (may be too high... lots of potential though)

Vincent Jackson (ball bounced off him in the endzone... will he get a lot of those chances this year.... and if so, will he convert?!)

3. Inconsistent, but high upside:

Devery Henderson

Antwaan Randle El

James Jones

Demetrius Williams

Arnaz Battle

4. Either inconsistent, low touches, or low upside:

Amani Toomer

Isaac Bruce

Derrick Mason

Donte' Stallworth

Shaun McDonald

Mike Furrey

Brandon Stokley

Jacoby Jones

Nate Burleson (Temporary)

Jerry Porter

Bobby Engram

Marty Booker

Roddy White

Jason Avant

Drew Carter

Joe Jurevicius

Joe Horn

Dennis Northcutt

Muhsin Muhammad

5. Long Shots, Hurt, or Very Limited Touches

D.J. Hackett (Worth hanging onto??)

Craig Davis

Troy Williamson

Samie Parker (Temporary)

Peerless Price

Ernest Wilford

Josh Reed

John Broussard

Dwayne Bowe

Mike Williams

Ted Ginn Jr.

Maurice Stovall

Nate Washington

Brad Smith

Ike Hilliard

Malcom Floyd

Rashied Davis

Mark Bradley

Tab Perry

Anthony Gonzalez

Josh Cribbs

Brandon Lloyd

Chris Davis

Roydell Williams

Terrance Copper

Jabar Gaffney

Matt Jones

Jeff Webb

Bobby Wade

Steve Smith

Brandon Jones

Eric Moulds

Keary Colbert

Justin McCareins

Sidney Rice

Kevin Walter

Sam Hurd

Tim Carter

Bryant Johnson

Justin Gage

Roscoe Parrish

Laurent Robinson

Michael Jenkins

Michael Clayton

Cedrick Wilson

Ruvell Martin

Wallace Wright

Aundrae Allison

Dane Looker

Dante' Hall

David Patten

Eddie Kennison (Hammy tear now... I feel for the vet...)

Move Northcutt up a tier - any receiver who gets 9 targets, esp when his mates got well below that - deserves a bump.

Recall that Garrard has spent the last two years working mostly with the second team guys - not with MJones or RWilliams.

These guys absolutely belong in tier 1:

Reggie Brown

Deion Branch

Braylon Edwards

Calvin Johnson

Chris Chambers

Was Garrard on the Browns?

New team for Northcutt - Signed with JAX for IIRC $17M. I agreed with all your guys above except Branch. I think he legitimately has questions to answer prior to moving back up into the "start regardless" tier of WR3s and below. But that is just me...

Having Toomer that low IMO is insane. Toomer had 50 targets and 32 catches through 8 games last year. With questions at the RB position, Burress and Toomer will be relied heavily upon. He should be at the bottom of the entire next tier up. You have Randle El in the tier above yet the only thing he has consistently proven is that he is inconsistent. In 5 seasons, he has never caught more than 50 balls. Toomer has caught over 50 balls in every season.

I forgot. :shrug:For some reason I thought he was with the team last year, too, but I was wrong.

:shrug:I am psyched I've got Toomer on two of my teams (as long as Manning gets back on the quick side).

I agree with your tiers for the most part, but I think this one deserved more breakup. The guys I bolded are definately inconsistent and victims of varying levels of touches, but are young, growing, unknown and emerging and more worth the gamble if you are going to dip into this tier. The guys I italicized are the experienced players either on the decline or guys who we've seen enough to know what they are. You might hit a home run down the stretch with a bolded guy, I'd feel less likely with the older guys.

:goodposting:He may not become a regular fantasy starter, but I picked him up over Randle El on waivers this week largely based on targets in week 1...

Missed Devery - I believe he deserves a bump at least ohne tier.

Last game notwithstanding, he'll likely be the Saints' third leading receiver this year on a team tha passes the ball a ton and accumulates a ton of yardage and TDs.

At the least, he is a solid WR3.

A quick comment. Despite the throught that Reggie Brown should be a solid WR this year, he has not shown the drive or ability in preseason or week 1. His most consistent stat has been his drops (sorry no link for that one). I would not be at all surprised if Curtis ends up WR1 statistically this year in Philly. He has better hands, comparable speed, and he has more frequently been targeted downfield than Brown.

That's just my ;) . Great post though. There's a lot of great thought and info here!

I noticed 5 or 6 players that really stuck out for me.

Deion Branch - up, Guy is a legit WR3, borderline WR2.

Amani Toomer - up, This guy is the most underrated WR3 in the game right now.

Braylon Edwards - down, He's a borderline WR3 not a WR2.

Brandon Marshall - down, Tough call but I think this guy is still a WR4 not a WR3.

Vincent Jackson - down, Looking like a WR4.

Samie Parker (Temporary) - down, This guy is waiver wire fodder.

Honestly.... Levin at it again.Sure the 9 targets are something to take notice of, but the reasoning provided here is just awful.Northcutt wasn't with the Jags last year, which was already pointed out, but please recall that Garrard has started 1/2 of the Jags games over the last 2 years (6 in 2005 / 10 in 2006)So talk about him "mostly" spending time with second team guys is just plain wrong.

I agree..Toomer had 9 catches for 91 yards last week.

Very nice list btw. Thanks for compiling it.

I'm waiting/hoping Tab Perry realizes his situation & opportunity to reach for Henry's proven production as a WR3 in CIN. It's not looking good thus far, but maybe he'll do something over the next few games.

Welker (if he hasn't yet) will prove he deserves a bump up to solid WR3 - especially in PPRs

I'd think one of Price/Reed/maybe Parrish will become the #2 and a decent bye week startable in BUF with the unproven run game and the focus on Evans.

I don't see a Colston type of guy based on opportunity - someone that comes out of nowhere to put up solid #s. I'm sure it'll happen somewhere, maybe due to injury. Mabye D. Williams in BAL if Boller got the job - but I have a hard time believing McNair is going to make it happen.

Just picked him off the waiver wire.My main concern was how well he has recovered from ACL surgery. He looked just fine last week and continues to be Eli's security blanket. I'm too lazy to look it up but check out Eli's numbers last year with and without Toomer.

Whats the verdict on Avant... is he the #3 in PHI?

Also Ike Hilliard in TB....

I'll hang up and listen to your responses
