Lower tier RB's, who had the best shot (1 Viewer)

In a redraft league who has the better chance at rising above thier ADP, Willie Parker, Kevin Jones, Jamal Lewis Reggie Bush or Chester Taylor.

My league gives more points for a RB catching a TD so I am thinking of going with Bush. What do you think?

Chester Taylor for the whole season. Reggie Bush after, say, Week 6. I think the guy will have a great season for a rookie, but I think anyone who expects way more than 2nd round value of him will be disappointed.

Take Jamal Lewis and KJ b4 Reggie in a redraft...you have no idea what the deal with Deuce in N.O is yet...at least u know Jamal is gonna be the man and with McNair there..the whole offense will be better...more goal like oppurtunities

I like all of those guys as well if not better than their round two counterparts. Kevin Jones has a great chance to succeed in Martz's offense. Jamal Lewis has a better offense around him, and this is his first year without distractions in a long time. When he hasn't had legal troubles, he's been very good on a PPG basis. If I knew how Deuce was doing I'd say more about Reggie Bush, but if he gets carries, he should be good. Chester Taylor was slow to get started but he should be a solid play, too. And I see no reason to think that Willie Parker will do anything less than last year.

Compare that with guys going ahead of them, like Julius Jones, who has Barber sneaking up on him, and Reuben Droughns who has gotten into a bit of trouble in the offseason. Willis McGahee who scored about the same as Willie Parker, is getting drafted a full round or more ahead of him. In fact, this year reminds me a lot of a couple years ago, when it seemed like the third round running backs all excelled, and the second round running backs, with limited exceptions, busted badly.

Out of all of the guys you mentioned, though, the only ones who don't appear to have to worry about competition for carries are Willie Parker, Kevin Jones, and possibly Jamal Lewis, so if you're looking to go RB WR RB, you might be best off taking one of those two. As we get closer to training camp and have a better idea of who will be starting and what kind of momentum they have, I'd expect guys like Taylor, Bush, as well as Addai/Rhodes, Dillon/Maroney and Foster/Williams to move up these rankings as well.

I like the philosophy Bostonfred has, but I disagree with his assessment of some situations....

I see Parker as having a good bit of competition for touches. We know he will not have the 3rd down role (Haynes), and he may not get the short yardage stuff (Staley).

Jamal Lewis could loose anywhere from some to a bunch of touches to Mike Anderson, especially if we see the same 2 players we saw last year. It has been a long time since Lewis was a solid FF RB, and his TD total had never been big.

Bush will split with McAllister for sure, and McAllister would get the goal line calls here too. What the new O looks like is TBD.

==============

That leaves us with....

Kevin Jones - Underperformer who many hope will look better in the new Martz O. Not much competition, but a pass happy coach too. Some risk here, but much less.

Chester Taylor - Former backup, who looked good when given touches and now has his chance to start. VERY little competition here as well. They paid him starter money and that says he has the edge over the incumbent Moore and Co. He could be this years LaMont Jordan

So from a risk mitigation vs. production stand point, which you MUST consider in such an early round pick, I'd go:

1 Taylor

2 KJ

3a Parker

3b Lewis

5 Bush

Look for one in the 3rd after a RB WR start

I have to go with Taylor as far a value. He shouldn't go as high as the others listed. If he blows up in a couple of pre season games, that could all change then. I have to believe he'll be given 20 plus touches per game to start the season. If he gets them and does well there's a pretty good chance he's top 12 by season's end.

Not to mention the revamped offensive line.

K Jones or Jamal Lewis. K Jones is in the best offense and is going to be heavily involved in the offense. By pure chanes alone, I'd go w/Kevin Jones. My second choice is Lewis. He won't catch too many TD passes, but he'll get a ton of carries--again many chances to do things with the football!

No it hasn't. Unless you consider a year ago a long time. Lewis had over 1100 total yds and 7 TDs in only 12 games in 2004. That is a very solid FF RB who simply got injured.
