LT needs to sit....... (1 Viewer)

News: In a conference call with the New England media Wednesday, Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson addressed his injured toe and admits that it's slowing down his play. Tomlinson is averaging 3.7 yards per rush this season. He hasn't rushed for less than 4.3 yards per carry in his career since his second NFL season. "As a runner, you need pretty much everything that you have as far as your legs are concerned -- feet, toes, knees, hamstrings, all that kind of stuff," Tomlinson said. "Obviously when you hurt one part of it, as a runner, it hurts you. But it's football and as long as I've been playing there's no way that I can expect to not ever be hurt. But I've got to play through it and that's just part of being a football player."

Sit Ladanian and let Sproles on the field more. Sproles is no doubt more effective. Let LT heal and come back. He is getting worse, when will coach realize this is hurting the bolts???

Just traded LT. He's not the same player.

I agree, Sproles looks like the better RB for the team. LT would be better served by resting until he's 100%. Maybe he's afraid Sproles will tear it up and everyone will say he's a product of the system...I don't know what he's thinking.

I'm not implying that he is a product of the system...just trying to think out loud. He's hurting the team and the coaches and LT himself should see that.

When does it become reasonable to contemplate trading LT if your San Diego?

Does he have 4 good years left after the toe is better?

I don't know, just curious...

Ever since last year's AFC championship game, I think LT has been trying to prove people wrong about him being soft and not willing to play with an injury. Unfortunately, I think LT trying to play through the toe injury is hurting the team more than rebuilding his reputation. I'd like to see the coaching staff sit LT for a few weeks to let this thing heal.

On a side note, why was a player with a toe injury not wearing some sort of protective covering over his toes during the game? That baffles me.

LT owner here. I tried to move him for SJax before the Ram bye week, thinking I would have a shot with LT coming off a 2 td performance. The owner didn't bite. At this point, I have talked myself into holding on to Tomlinson. My thinking was the injury was sustained early in the season, and he will either come to terms with how to deal with the pain or he will be able to recover by the second half of the season and produce as a rb1 for me. Time will tell.

Im no doctor, but it seems to me staying off injuries helps them to heal. Does LT pretty much get to play when he wants? Where's the coaching/med staff on this? Does LT truelyrealize what he's doing? Angry Bolt fan.

Anything that is used to protect the toe, you are not going to be able to see.Usually the toe is taped or there is a brace.

You know hurt players don't necessarily sit every week and not get cleared to play thru pain. I'm sure the Bolts have some LB or lineman or somesuch playing thru an injury. It is very hard(one coach said the hardest thing) to get a professional athlete to rest. If it were easy, they probably wouldn't be where they are today. They're just "wired" differently

For anything to happen, a team that will want to pick up the tab for the balance of his $60 million contract and the Chargers would have to be ready to take the remaining cap hit for his $21 million signing bonus.

From the nobody cares but me, but I'm going to post it anyway category...

The Bolts play my beloved Patriots this week, and I have Sproles, and Chris Johnson on a BYE and Selvin Young hurt and Lawrence Maroney in the doghouse, somewhere, deep down in my ugly spot, I'm excited about what Sproles can do this weekend, and I feel really really bad about it.

I wonder if the Chargers would be more willing to rest LT2 if they were winning games. Or if he would be more willing to.

Doesn't help in fantasy line up decisions when he puts up 20 fantasy points vs the Jets and Raiders on that bummed toe, but then lets you down on other games. If he was just consistently bad I'd be happy to sit him every week for Slaton and Ronnie Brown.

:nerd: Norv needs to do something he doesn't seem to be very good at - taking the decision out of the player's hands. Norv needs to just not put LaDainian out there until he's 100%.

OR Norv needs to be fired for seeing LT is not as effective

off the wire :Despite missing Wednesday's practice, LaDainian Tomlinson (toe) says he's "close to getting back to where I want to be" physically.

Tomlinson probably will miss another practice on Thursday, but should return on Friday and start against New England. The off days can only help him.

I hate to doubt what LT has to say, but, I think I hear this every week. It's getting old.I wish his bye week was this week. That's what he really needs, and he won't get it for a while.

As a Charger fan I find it hard to live without LTII, but he isn't even at 70% and he needs to shut it down for a couple of games so that we can come storming back and just make the playoffs.

But the problem for me is, why is Sproles being asked to fill LTII's shoes? That job goes to Jacob Hester

http://subscribers.footballguys.com/players/HestJa00-1a.php

that's why he was drafted, so come on Norv let him play. Then Sproles can get back to his Reggie Bush imitation. And he's quite good at it. But Sproles is not LTII, never has been never will be.

The team let Merriman decide whether he wanted to play through his knee injury and he gave it a try until deciding to shut it down. I am thinking they are doing the same with LT -- it's his call and right now he is deciding to tough it out and play through the injury even though he is not the same runner right now.

If Hester is going to replace LT2, it won't be this year. He hasn't had a single carry, they won't put him in to shoulder the load. Something else is going on there.

Norv should be fired becuase he's a bad coach. LT should sit becuase he needs a heart transplant.

I don't get it. Yeah LT has a big run as time wears on, but when the game counts... Sproles has clearly outperformed him. Problem is, it's literally (and talk to any Charger insider) it's LTs team and his choice. I respect he's a gamer... but we see 8 to 12 straight runs of sub 5 yard carries, this is not your daddy's LT. This mule's best days are behind him. Sure we are going to see another 200+yd 3 td game at some random point, but what matters for the Chargers is not even a need for game breaking run, just a few first down runs.

Sproles activity is not garbage time, and he's ahead of ol LT in a number of cats.

Jesus Bolt heads, and Coach Pox (i.e. Turner) learn from the rest of the league... (I know it sucks for fantasy), but this is the era of RBBC. It works, and for a reason. Get Sproles 1/3 the plays, before it's too late. Seriously. Fantasy wise it's been great... but wtf was the point of keeping LT with that huge lead vs the Jets... man you deserve what you get.

Seriously.

At least Andy Reid gets it...

PHILADELPHIA (AP)—All-Pro running back Brian Westbrook will miss his second game in three weeks when the Philadelphia Eagles visit San Francisco on Sunday.

Westbrook broke two ribs in the Eagles’ 23-17 loss to Washington last Sunday, though he kept playing and finished the game. He sat out a 24-20 loss at Chicago on Sept. 28 because of an ankle injury.

Two-time Pro Bowl guard Shawn Andrews (back) and wide receiver Reggie Brown (groin) also won’t play. Wideout Kevin Curtis is expected to see his first action this season after having surgery for a sports hernia.

“Brian wants to go. He’s in the mind-set that he wants to play, but it’s a decision that I’ve got to make,” coach Andy Reid said Friday. “He’s a tough nut and I know that. I’ve got to do what I think is best for him and the football team down the road. It made the decision a little easier for me than it is for him. Obviously, he wants to contribute and compete.”

Westbrook leads the Eagles (2-3) with 194 yards rushing and has six touchdowns, two receiving. He should return on Oct. 26 after a bye week.

“I think the bye week will help him,” Reid said. “I think it will take some of the sting out of that thing. If he were to get hit on it this week, it would slow down the process of healing.”

LT After the Bill game: "The run game comes with opportunities and gaining some momentum," Tomlinson said. "Obviously, we didn't have any momentum in the run game. That's why we're suffering."

Um.............nevermind.

Way to bump an old post to continue a vendetta against LT. Does this site have an ignore feature so I don't have to read your worthless drivle?

Sure does. You should use it so you don't have to get all worked up when you read posts of people you disagree with.

LT is a selfish player, I've always thought that but for whatever reason he was seen as the golden child of the NFL. For a guy who proclaims himself as being "classy" he sure seems be be a selfish SOB.

LT did nothing wrong today. He had NOTHING to work with. I think he had 2 holes all day. Can't hold today's game against him at all.

Actually, I thinks this harkens back to last year when LT sat out a game & got all sorts of grief for not suiting up & playing hurt.LT's in a Catch 22 damned if you do, damned if you don't, quarndy.
