LT...then 2 WR or a Gates? (1 Viewer)

With the #1 pick in the draft I am going to choose LT (obviously).

Being that LT will have double the amount of TDs (if not more) than the RBs remaining at #21 or #22 wouldn't it be wise to go 2 top tier WR or even a Gates at this point in the draft? Then in the 4th or 5th rounds get my other RB?

What's everyone's thoughts on this?

LT doesn't really factor into the equation. What you need to examine is whether the WR you select in Round 2/3 would outscore any available RB. Your scoring matters, too, especially if it's PPR.

I did a mock last night from the Ace hole.

Peterson

I liked it a ton ( I believe AP will be a major contributor) and green is nice value IMO.

You got 3 superstar players plus in PPR those WR's are $$$

I would not reach on a benson...who is being waaaaay overrated again. He stinks.

do a search on stud TE strategy or the like and you will find a multiple page thread addressing this in detail with stats to backup the different positions on the subject.

This thread. As much as that monster is getting referenced, it should be pinned at this point.

I am in a PPR league and I'm strongly considering taking best available WR likely Wayne, R.Williams or Fitz and Palmer/ Gates...I am going back and forth over who to pick palmer or gates, I think there is good value in both qb and te but those two are miles ahead of the rest

what are the starting requirements? if you start a flex I would draft a RB with the 2nd and 3rd picks

There is only one Gates. I don't know what "a Gates" is since there is no one like him - as of yet. If you took any other TE but Gates at this spot it would be ridiculous. Even at #21/22 I would bypass Gates probably go RB/WR since there will probably be a RB that intrigues me. If not, top flight WR/WR.

Gates is miles ahead of Palmer. To be honest, there are probably 6 QBs you can count on to be competing to finish as an elite QB (Manning, Brady, Palmer, Bulger, Brees, McNabb). Peyton Manning is obviously the first tier, but the rest are all in a very muddy second tier (some people split McNabb out into tier 2a). The difference between Antonio Gates and Jeremy Shockey (or whoever the #2 TE is) is MASSIVE, while the difference between Palmer and Brees or Bulger is basically negligible. I mean, would you honestly be the least bit surprised if Brees had a better season than Palmer this year? I wouldn't be. And even if Palmer has a slightly better year than Brees, we're probably looking at the difference between 4100 yards/29 TDs and 4000 yards/26 TDs- very little difference at all. Really, the only four players I see as a near-lock for stud-level production, the only four players who should (in my mind) be ranked significantly ahead of their peers, are Tomlinson, S-Jax, Gates, and Manning.

Most of my mocks have me going WR, WR at the 2-3 turn. I would consider a TE there but we don't start a separate TE position.

..my first 9 picks in a recent draft.....thin at rb hell yes...but with Lt and turner to back him up who cares????these are all starters and will start every week

I'm in a PPR league (new rule starting this season) .. I'm for sure taking LT2, but am stuck on the 2-3 turn.. I like the idea of going WR/WR, but I also like the idea of going QB/WR .. I dont feel like their is good running back value left at the 2-3 turn...so I think I might go 2-3 turn WR/WR and then 4-5 turn RB/QB

QB in the second = :thumbup:There's pretty much negligible difference between Palmer/Brady and Bulger/Brees/McNabb. Don't burn your pick on a player when essentially the exact same player is going to be sitting there waiting for you two rounds later.

just got back from my draft, I couldnt resist the T.O. and Wayne combo for the 2-3 turn.. i was able to get Adrian Peterson and Jamal Lewis later on in the draft..

M Turner in the 6th??? Do you really think you needed to grab him so soon? I was hoping to wait for the next turn.

I agree with you to an extent but I think the difference between Manning/Palmer/Brady/Bulger/Brees/Mcnabb to the rest of the qbs is huge and I don't think any of them are going to be around at the 4.12 turn.
