Not sure if I missed it, but alot of people have been talking about it since VY got the cover.

LaDainian Tomlinson Walked Away From Madden Cover

It turns out that Madden 2008 cover boy Vince Young was not EA Sports' first choice. Before Young got the video game endorsement, Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson was offered the opportunity to appear on the cover but turned it down.

According to CNBC (via Deadspin), Tomlinson doesn't believe in the Madden Curse, but he does believe that he deserves to be well compensated for the use of his image, and he balked at the payment EA Sports offered. Players who appear on the cover usually get $100,000 to $200,000 to make various promotional appearances to help sell the game, and Tomlinson didn't feel that was enough to make it worth his while.

Whatever his reasons, some Charger fans are very happy.

I've seen it mentioned a few times in the past year or two that Tomlinson had turned down the Madden cover. But I never saw a legitimate article about it; just posts on message boards.

200k? Thats it for being on the cover and having to make appearnences?

with LT2s money, why bother?

That article makes him sound kinda greedy or too highbrow to be wasting his time with something so trivial. You would think any player would be honored to be the Madden coverboy.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that he said in the past he wouldn't do the Madden cover because he felt his acomplishments are the direct result of team play and he didn't want to promote himself individually. Can't remember the source, so take it for what it's worth.

Talk about selfish...

He's not selfish. He doesn't want to get hurt, but didn't want to say he believed in the curse. Maybe the team decided to pay LT $300,000 to decline being on the cover. And it is also the main reason why SD has not traded Turner. They need to wait and confirm that VY will be on the cover for sure. :goodposting:

It's not selfish... it's how much is worth the risk... is 200K worth being part of the Curse??? That's the bottom line... and players are superstitious... I think it's great he turned them down... I feel sorry for Vince Young...

 :lmao: Neither you nor anybody here would work at a price that you thought underpaid you (unless you have to). LT clearly does not need the money, and he thought the time necessary that he would have to put in wasn't worth the dough. End of story.
