Free-agent outfielder Luis Gonzalez has reached a preliminary agreement on a one-year contract with the Marlins, according to a major-league source. The deal, which is likely to include a guaranteed salary of approximately $2 million and incentives worth up to $1 million, is contingent on Gonzalez passing a physical.Gonzalez, 40, is expected to fill a combination of roles, including left field and first base, and serve as a mentor for the Marlins' younger players.Gonzalez spent last season with the Dodgers, batting .278 with 15 homers and 68 RBIs.
Maybe he'll be able to sell some tickets to the Cuban-American community in South Florida.

I had read he was waiting for Seattle to officially trade Pac Man as the Mariners wanted him as an OF replacement. :excited:

I thought I read a couple days ago that Gonzo thought he was too good for Florida.

Gonzo might be a nice community guy, but needed to retire yesterday.

The Marlins also signed former can't miss prospect Dallas McPherson to a Major League contract. I would have liked to see the Giants take a flyer on him to play either 3B or 1B.
