Luke Perry suffers massive stroke (1 Viewer)

:(

People rarely recover from a massive stroke. The brain damage is permanent. Best case scenario is that the rest of your brain rewires itself to compensate for the damaged tissue, but the older you are, the less likely that your brain is capable of being re-trained.

I remember **** Clark didn't last long after his stroke.

Clark lived for 8 years after his stroke.

The stroke is not what killed him. He died of a heart attack during an operation for prostate cancer.

Yikes, I wonder if he had unknown or untreated high blood pressure or heart disease?

That's really young for a stroke.

Some people have a stroke without any health issues. My dad is one. I've seen kids who have had a stroke. Just shows anything can happen to anyone at any age.

RIP, his family and friends must be hurting pretty awful. I remember when he introduced Howard Stern as “Fartman”, on MTV, that was classic.  Sad day today😥

Not sure what kind of life he led but there was never any news about him in the 90’s or using drugs or anything of that nature that I can recall. Until the autopsy results, if any, he was always a good guy imo. He had to hang around Brenda but that was his own fault for dating her. At least he didn’t date Donna.

Very sad.

He showed excellent acting chops on OZ, playing a ridiculously over the top character. He had an unsettling death scene, a truly awful way to go.

RIP Luke.  May have to hit the Peach Pit After Dark and pour out a drink for the homey.

Know the signs..

 F  facial drooping,

A   arm weakness,

S  speech difficulties

T  time to call 911

Not all strokes come with speech issues. The ones originating in the right side of the brain may not.

My dad died of a stroke (weeks after suffering it) back in 2008. My mom was out running errands and the neighbor said to her when she got home that my dad was talking nonsense earlier and he thought it peculiar. In hindsight I think the neighbor was devisated and felt very guilty for failing to call 911 at the time. Though nobody blames him.

Anyway, yeah talking nonsensically is definitely a huge indicator of a stroke.

Sorry to hear about your dad. It's easy to look back with the what ifs. I can imagine his guilt.

All we can do is learn signs to look for in ourselves and others, but it doesn't always present itself in what you read in textbooks.

My dad is in great health and has always been all his life. He was active in singles tennis through his 70s. Then he got dizzy and fell. No other symptoms at that time. Then another fall and this time left arm and leg affected. Months had gone by. Didn't tell me otherwise I would have said go to ER after the first fall. It's not just surviving stroke but chances of full recovery of function go down with time. In his case MRI was clear. So it was a mystery for awhile. Hopefully he won't pull a wait and see again should something happen.

I only met him once but the story is too good not tell given todays sad events. My wife and I are on a plane back from Mexico. Couple of rows ahead of us, these two brothers, young kids, are beating the hell out of eachother. Their poor parents are powerless to stop the crying, yelling and screaming. If you're a parent you understand. Sometimes there's nothing you can do. It was like this for close to two hours. Then about 10 minutes before landing it starts to get real bad. Out of no where, a man comes from first class. Hat, beard, sunglasses, blowing up a balloon. He ties it off, hands it off like he's holding out a sword to a king. Kneeling, Head down, arms up. Kids calm down in milliseconds. Plane damn near bursts into applause. 15 minutes longer and it probably would have started WWIII, but we landed before that could happen. We get off the plane, are waiting on line in customs. Finally get a good look at the guy and I say to my wife "Holy . I think that balloon man/hero" is Luke Perry". As luck would have it we end up standing next to each other. Out of the blue he turns to me and says some kind words about Fargo, which kinda blew my mind. I start singing his praises about how long I've admired him and also about the move with the balloon. "That's a pro move! You can't teach that!" I say. He tells me he always flies with a couple of balloons for that very reason, to give to screaming kids. Don't know if that's true, but have no reason to believe it wasn't. Guy seemed like a true gent. Gone way too damn soon. Also, I'll be damned if I don't start traveling with some spare balloons.
