\\m// Official Dealer's Choice Music Mixtape Draft (1 Viewer)

Any recommended Gay Folk artists I can study up on?

ETA: ...so I can mulligan Rush
wait... I thought this was a joke.

pardner?
If you want to change gay/queer folk to the broader bluegrass/country/folk I'm cool with that.

Nordic folk is out, though. And I don't mean that kind of out (NTTAWWT).
I'm fine with Bluish Grass.

I had thought about Long Songs as a category... 10 mins plus. not necessarily gay enough for my partner, but probably plenty of room for mandolins. But again, I'm fine with bluegrass/country/folk

Songs titled only with a person's name. It can be first name only or first and last. It can even be a nickname, but it cannot have any other words in the title but the name.

These categories are more Caucasian than the Winter Olympics. Things that white people like: bluegrass, small towns, Rush, Scandinavians, mandolins, The Beatles, multi-movement rock epics, etc.

That's fine for you but I'm hearby changing my category from Songs under 100 sec. to the Best Bassline Ever. Deal with it.

You sound surprised..

Was thinking of making my category post-1990 instrumental tracks. Hopefully the classic rockers don't find that too restricting.
No more than a few other categories, but will make do.
I'd rather people not have to google search for songs for this one, so if that's the case I'd have no issue making it just instrumental songs.

My first pick for your old category is very mad at you.

So are the non urban, non R&B, non rap, non hip hop, non gospel, non blues black women musicians of the world.

Don't be sad. You can change it back. I was criticizing the gay folk category with my scavenger hunt comment.

Every team in this draft could probably satisfy my category with something from Busta Rhyme's catalog.

Official category:

Rock songs with at least three movements (clear changes in any or all of instrumentation, tempo, meter)

Three movements means two changes within the song, e.g. Movement A / Movement B / Movement C

It's OK for a movement to be reprised, e.g. Movement A / Movement B / Movement A (reprise) is fine.

Movement changes can be gradual -- no need for hard breaks or momentary silence between movements.
Just to be clear, it has to be identified as a single track on the original album, e.g. you can't draft side two of Abbey Road.

I've changed my category mind again. Here's what I'm mulling over now:

1) Songs from acts in the Prince/Minneapolis lineage without Prince being the featured vocalist.

2) James Brown song

3) Dance song

Anyone like one of those better than the others?

Thanks ... that was my intention for sure.

That'll be my category with the "produced by" expansion.
Songs written by Prince (or any of his noms de plume) OK?
Sure, but it's more of the sound I was going for. The highly Prince flavored song without the full frontal Prince - you know what I mean? His tentacles have gone places some people might not realize. Musically speaking of course.

Good category. Plenty of options. Lots of women wearing lingerie, Some opportunities for "Con-tro-versy" with some of his pseudonyms.

Still waiting on category choices from Bonzai and Usual21. Fennis also didn't seemed convinced about sad songs when he last visited the thread. Please lock in your category choices as soon as you're able.

Upon further review, a lot of the Prince collaborations from the 80s and early 90s are out of print and/or not on Spotify. I still like the category but it's going to make the final playlists more difficult if people draft something other than the usual hits.

Ok I will change my category.

When Zamboni was doing those "year in music" threads, I discovered that one year stood out for me as having more great albums than any other year. I couldn't believe how many of my favorite albums of all time originated from this year. Therefore my category: please choose a song from 1971.
