Macklin or Austin? (1 Viewer)

Both Jeremy Macklin and Miles Austin put up big numbers with their first starts subbing for injured players.

My question is when both Roy Williams and Kevin Curtis return who might keep a starting job in one of the wide receiver positions?

Also are both injured players expect4ed back this week?

I think Maclin has the starting job locked up, not so sure about Austin though. FWIW in another thread I read that Jerry Jones loves Austin, and they beleived that Austin would getting the starting job as well.

Neither, in all likelyhood. There is no way Jerry Jones allows Roy Willaims to be benched, but I guess there is a slight chance Maclin takes Curtis' spot, but I don't see that happening this year.

EDIT: Does Austin play the same spot as Roy? IF so, then he will remain on the bench, but I don't have the slightest clue...

Both will have starting jobs.

Crayton will move to the slot [where he belongs] & Curtis will be a situational player from here on out.

I think he starts to cut into Crayton's time not Roy's when healthy. Austin has been in lot's of sub packages (3 WR sets).

I think Maclin, don't know about Austin. Curtis is banged up and I think the way Maclin played, no reason to go back to Curtis.

Maclin will replace Curtis. Reid has hinted as much, and after Sunday's game, it's pretty clear. The team now has it's new starting receiver corps in Jackson-Maclin-Celek, with Avant as the #3, and it looks pretty solid.

I'd think that Austin & Crayton start while Williams is out, and then Crayton goes back to being a slot guy when Williams returns.

Maclin won't look back, he was drafted to replace Curtis & will start doing so now. But, he's a rookie & not nearly as polished as Curtis/ Also, Philly utilizes 4 WRs, and there is no rhyme or reason to how the ball is distributed each game. All Philly WR/TEs will be somewhat inconsistent & they will rotate having big games. Good luck trying to pick which 2-3 games Maclin lights it up again this year.

Austin "should" get the start over ROY going forward, but I highly doubt Jerry lets that happen. He & Crayton play different positions, so Crayton's spot is safe. Dallas has a lot invested in Roy & I doubt they give up on him yet. Austin is the deep threat Dallas has needed, but I don't think he'll take over.

If I had to pick one, I'd go with Maclin just because I know he'll get targets the rest of the way.

Roy Williams is aweful I would put Austin ahead of him anyday. ummm I would actually even put Sam Hurd ahead of him. Williams is washed up and Romo and him have never been in sink.

As for Macklin I would be careful he could get 1 catch next week. The Eagles will spread the ball around and every week could be a new 100+ yard receiver. I would rank the Eagles Receivers as

1 - Jackson

2 - Celek

3 - Westbrook

4 - Avant

5 - Macklin

Avant is underrated in my opinion McNabb loves that guy and I wouldn't be surprised if the hook up for a TD every other game from here on out. As for Kevin Curtis he will still be valuable on this team if healthy. I think he takes a back seat until the playoff push time.

From the dallas papers today -

Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News reports Wade Phillips would not use the term "starter" when talking about Miles Austin, but he said Austin will see just as much playing time on Oct. 25 against Atlanta as he did Sunday at Kansas City.

Maybe it's a semantics game, but Austin's 10-catch, 250-yard, 2-touchdown game against the Chiefs has propelled him into the lineup, starting or otherwise.

"He did the things we thought he could," Phillips said. "You're not going to make 250 yards every time, but he's going to have a chance to make big plays again."

If Austin is a starter, it would likely be at Patrick Crayton's spot even though Austin replaced Roy Williams Sunday. With a $45 million contract, it would be difficult to sit Williams for sure.
