Mad Men on AMC (2 Viewers)

I also thought his drink was drugged. Regardless something fishy was going on, I mean who needs a shot to cure heat exhaustion?
He didn't take the shot.Seriously, do you guys pay attention?
Huh, he woke up seeing a pseudo doctor with a needle in his hand. The Doctor's intent is ambiguous at best.
First, what's your basis for calling him a pseudo doctor?Second, how do you know it wasn't just a B-12 shot? Doctors do give B12 shots for heat exhaustion and dehydration.

My basis is that he doesnt work as a Doctor, they confirmed that at the dinner table.I said it was ambiguous at best, which doesn't mean I have ruled out a B-12 shot.

But you still think something nefarious was occurring, correct?

You guys really think these people put something in Don's drink and then attempted to inject him with something? It's Mad Men not Law and Order SVU.
Seeing that I've never seen the guy collapse after a drink, yeah, its a possibility. Those people are pretty detached from every day life. I don't think they want to kill the guy or anything like that, but sure, I could see them screwing with him for their own amusement.

1. Nobody but Joy knows Don's coming yet somehow all the freaky Euros, who are chilling by the pool, plot to slip him something in the minute it takes them to walk through the house.2. Joy pours Don's drink from the same bottle that the one couple is drinking from. 3. Whatever they put in the drink takes effect in about 30 seconds.4. Don actually looks a little woozy before he even is handed the drink.5. Joy asks Don "are you ok?" as he starts to faint.6. Why drag him inside and then try to inject him with something? Give him the shot while he's out cold on the deck.7. Nobody, not even the doctor, protests when Don says he doesn't want the shot. 8. The big question is: Why would they even do it? It makes no sense.I look at it this way. Don just spend 2 hours in a convertible driving to hot-as-hell Palm Springs. Add in that he's playing hooky from work with a smokin' 22 year old and is suddenly hanging out by the pool with a bunch of jet-setting Europeans. I'm not sure if he really had heat exhaustion or was just dizzy.

I would imagine Don would have left if he thought something was up.

Heat exhaustion. He was wearing a suit all day in LA. And I'm sure there was even more jet lag from the planes back in the 60's.

I don't see a conspiracy here.

True. And Don is a New Yorker. Some people just aren't ready for the heat of Palm Springs, Vegas, etc.

You guys are probably right, all I've said is it was ambiguous and I think the writers intended it to be that way.

That group was a bit freaky right? Joy and her father had a weird relationship to say the least. Just don't think its that much of a stretch to think that they could dose him with something.

Very odd group. So what are they? Grifters? They didn't reply when Don asked if they were well off.

To me they seemed more like the idle rich. Joy's father, Willy, is some sort of count. Keep the title of the episode in mind...Per wiki: "Jet set" is a journalistic term that was used to describe an international social group of wealthy people, organizing and participating in social activities all around the world that are unreachable to ordinary people. The term, which replaced "café society", came from the lifestyle of travelling from one stylish or exotic place to another via jet airplanes. Although jet passenger service in the 1950s was initially marketed primarily to the rich, its introduction eventually resulted in a substantial democratization of air travel. Today air travel is functional but without glory, and the term "jet set" no longer has cachet.

Don wasn't really Don Draper all episode, at least after he decided to go to Palm Springs. At the end, he called himself **** Whitman without any hesitation. So I'd say that Don Draper isn't the type who would faint, but **** Whitman might be.

First off no one said anything about him taking the shot so I suggest you pay attention to someone's post before trying to give a sarcastic responseYou go to a stranger's house and that person only gives you a vague answer when you ask who owns the home, then you walk out to the pool area were there are even more ppl you don't know, after suggesting you get naked you're handed a drink and seconds later you pass out. When you come to another stranger is holding a syringe and trying to give you a shot of who knows what and he "claims" he's a doctor. You have to be naive as hell not to find any of that suspicious

Take out the syringe and does it still seem suspicious? Sounds like he showed up to a house party and passed out from the heat. And if I remember correctly, they weren't trying to give him the needle until he was awake and able to decide if it's something he wanted.

usual lurker here...another possibility for Don's collapse could be a foreshadowing of possible health problems. Remember, he did visit a doctor earlier in the season who clearly indicated he had some issues to address. Could be the beginning of some Roger-like issues for Don with his health? He is obviously under stress from the various situations he is in.

Could be way off, but it's a possibility

:jawdrop: You said "who needs a shot to cure heat exhaustion." But Don didn't take the shot. Therefore, he didn't need it. What part of this aren't you getting?

Could be very relevant...but. I'm a little fuzzy on the details but didn't he just say he visited a doctor as an excuse to his wife after the car accident? I'm not remembering an actual doctor visit.

He was in a doctor's office in an early season show...doc said he was living/working too hard.

It's certainly possible they put something in his drink.

That woman from the car dealership is probably coming back into play, that's my guess who he was on the phone with, she seemed to recognize him from his past.

Joy was ridiculously hot. Wow.
I don't recall this. Little help?
She says "Don Draper"? He says "Yes". She says "You're not Don Draper". It was a flashback scene and that's all they showed. This happened in an auto dealership where Don was selling cars.

This doesn't make sense because the woman at the car dealership was looking for Don Draper. She realized that he wasn't really Don Draper.

Yep...no way it was her...that was a girl from Draper's past who didn't know D Whitman.

Surprise!

I really love the odd awkward chemistry that Pete and Peggy have....
:lmao: I also love how Peggy's getting a be more of a little bad-### every week.Oh and what's up with Joan's fiance? Homo? Rapist? Both?ETA: Or is he just trying to 'mark his territory'?

IMHO, I just think he needs to be "in control." He likes his women to be submissive.
I thought it was more story line of Joan "getting liberated." The old Joan is a sec'y and picks a chauvinistic guy. The new Joan learns she likes -and is good at - doing more work and realizes the guy she picked doesn't listen to her or respect her word.

Peggy's growth is fun to watch and she's developing a sense of humor:"How'd you get this office?""I'm sleeping with Don Draper."Joan's fiancee is a total rapist.

great ep last night. I wonder where it's all headed....
Yeah, me too. Betty bleeding has to be something serious. I don't think they'd just show a random menstrual cycle moment for no reason.
I guessing that this may be pregnancy-related?
Could very well be.
Some are speculating that it's evidence of a miscarriage and this will be what brings don and betty back together

I agree, he didn't want to have sex with Joan not because he's gay but because she was the one who initiated it. Plus he's into the whole rape thing

I really hope Don doesn't go back to his old life. I think the show will take a step backwards if he does. His wife has zero personality, a total drag and acts like a child.

I think they're going to make us wait until next season to see if Don comes back or not and what happens with his marriage.

Just some awesome and amazing subtleties in the last couple episodes. I'm new to the show this year and it's just outstanding.

The scene where the guy who Sterling screws takes out the two brits for dinner, and they talk about here's to an "old friend" and he picks up and finally downs the martini -- I'm assuming this guy is a recovering alcoholic, because he's never had a drink when offered and hesitated when these guys were drinking. I thought that "old friend" line was fantastic.

There were a bunch of other similar subtleties. Just a killer show.

The show is called Mad Men not **** Whitman....of course he'll be back, that's the only realistic way they can keep the ad agency and all the characters over there as a part of the show.BTW for those of you who don't know Jon Hamm who plays don will be the host of Saturday Night Live this week.

That seems backasswards. While I agree that as the most interesting character he probably will be back, they could certainly keep it going with the amount of characters they have and the dynamic they've created with the Brits taking over. After all, it's called Mad Men not the #### Whitman Show.

I predict that Don Draper will not come back, but the man who returns from California will be **** Whitman (he'll likely remain Don Draper in name only).

**** Whitman will attempt to navigate Don Draper's world and fail miserably (except with respect to his children.)

Well that's not what I was getting at. I meant that we'll have to see exactly when and how he comes back. Will he be more like the Don Draper of season 1 or my like the Don/**** we've seen in the last few episodes.
