And the winner is...

Madden NFL popped into headlines today, predicting a sunny Super Bowl win for the New Orleans Saints, and eight months of winter for the Indianapolis Colts.

Every year, Electronic Arts runs a Super Bowl simulation within their video game, Madden NFL. And five out of the last six years, the game's results have predicted the Super Bowl winner correctly. The simulation's only miss was the Giants' Super Bowl XLII victory over the Patriots, and even Nostradamus couldn't have seen that one coming.

This year, Madden NFL predicts a close Saints victory, with a final score of 35 - 31 over the Colts. According to the game, Drew Brees will be named the MVP after passing for 299 yards and three touchdowns. Reggie Bush will account for two more touchdowns, one rushing, and one on a punt return.

On the other side of the football, Colts' QB Peyton Manning will throw for 322 yards and three touchdowns in a great-but-not-good-enough performance.

But before Saints fans start celebrating and Colts fans call for a new coach, it's important to note that the Madden simulation only takes into account the perceived skill levels of each player on the field. Intangibles such as nerves and inexperience are not reflected. And according to this G4 video of the simulation, neither is Dwight Freeney's questionable ankle, as the Colts' defensive superstar can clearly be seen running and jumping down the tunnel at the head of his team before the game.

But whether he plays in the real Super Bowl or not, Madden NFL sees the Colts limping home on Sunday, and all of New Orleans jumping for joy.

EA Madden has correctly predicted the winner of 5 of the last 6 SuperBowls (missed on the NYG upset of Pats).

Is this supposed to be impressive? They've picked the favorite each of the last 6 Super Bowls. The favorite has won 5 of the last 6 Super Bowls. The only way to be impressive at predicting the SB would be to have gone 6/6, otherwise you're not even doing better than Vegas.

Well, Madden is predicting the underdog this year, no?[chasestuart] It's too small of a sample size to be meaningful anyway. [/chasestuart] :bag:

Actually it sort of is. It is a bunch of PROGRAMMERS which created a engine. I bet any bettor would love a system that says "Bet on this team" and it prevails 5/6 times. If we look into this further besides the ML here is what is has said about previous Super Bowls.2004 - Madden says take Patriots ML, take Panthers +7, take Over. It was right 3/3.2005 - Madden says take Patriots ML, take Patriots -7, take Over. It was right 1/3.2006 - Madden says take Steelers ML, take Steelers -4, take Under. It was right 3/3.2007 - Madden says take Colts, take Colts -7, take Over. It was right 2/3.2008 - Madden says take Patriots, take Giants +13.5, take Over. It was right 1/3.2009 - Madden says take Steelers, take Cardinals +7, take Under. It was right 3/3.Considering it picked the spread, winner and o/u perfectly in 3 of the 6 superbowls that is quite nice. It also was right ATS 5/6 of the superbowls including taking 3 dogs.

Update?

Madden would have been flawless in its predictions had David Tyree just dropped that ball :sadbanana:
A bit off on the Re. Bush scoring....but... :hifive: According to the simulation, Saints quarterback Drew Brees snags MVP honors by throwing for 299 yards and three touchdowns. Saints running back Reggie Bush boasts a strong game with 78 total yards, one TD and an additional score off a punt return. Colts' QB Peyton Manning finishes with a solid performance - 322 yards, 3 TDs - in the losing effort.
