Live ratings

1. Magnus Carlsen 2791.6

2. Vishy Anand 2790.6

3. Alexander Morozevich 2787.0

4. Veselin Topalov 2786.3

5. Vassily Ivanchuck 2781.7

With his round four victory in Bilbal, and assisted by Anand's loss to Topalov, Magnus Carlsen climbs to the number one position in the world. Impressive stuff for the inevitable world champion from Norway.

I'm posting from the grave, hotshot.

is he finally the #1 overall draft pick in fantasy chess now? I've been on his train for 2 years now. It's nice to finally see him get his shot and deliver.

safe to say he's never felt a girls chest?
If you are the number one anything in the world, there is a female groupie that is willing to offer her chest for your inspection.
Somehow, I doubt chess groupies are all that.

You'd be surprised, comrade.
Actually, I don't think I would. However, feel free to surprise me with a link or two.

"Have you ever done the Ruy Lopez?" is usually a great pickup line.

I was just thinking about my lack of a chess career the other day. Timely bump.
I started playing again about a month ago....beat up on some patsies at RedHotPawn to get back into the swing of things.

I believe Kasparov is the highest rated player of all time. How does Carlsen's rating compare to his?
I believe that Kasparov hit 2851 elo at his peak. Right now Topalov is at about 2812 and Carlsen, Anand et al. are just below 2800.There has been a lot of talk recently about rating inflation. This seems likely since top grandmasters used to have high 2600 ratings (even as recently as the early 80s when Karpov was champion), and now you see tons of guys over 2700. It could be that players truly are better due to better training (computers), but I think it's likely that there is substantial inflation. There are some good articles that discuss this.

After drawing in his third game against Wang Yue (with winning chances), Carlsen roared back with a nifty win against Dmitry Jakovenko, again with black pieces.

Something special is happening in China.
