SD homers.... What's your outlook on Floyd after yesterday's performance? He looks to be grasping the game at a higher level every week. Do you foresee him sliding into a starting role w/ his big play ability?

Eric Parker got hurt. If Parker is out for an extended period then Flyd may have some value. If not, he is far too inconsistent to consider. He matched his season totals yesterday in 3 Qs of play.

Floyd had some production filling in for Parker, but I see SD WR similar to NE WR. Rivers will get the ball to the open man....Gates/LT, but also the likes of Floyd/Jackson/even Malu....but it's too inconsistent to bet on the second tier WR group....

FWIW We just did this recently in a Vincent Jackson thread.

With Parker locked into one spot, Vincent poses a big problem for Floyd's hopeful dynasty owners.

I see V Jackson starting opposite Parker next year with Floyd the #3 guy. Mccardell moves on or retires.

I like both Jackson and Floyd for dynasty, esp with mccardell being older and parker missing games every year with injury.

I loved Vincent Jackson going into the season but every time he has a game which makes you think "maybe he turned the corner" he ends up on the injury report... I know nothing about Floyd, I tried to do a google search and found nothing from his Wisconsin days that made me think that he was stellar in college, although I could be wrong.. anybody have more insight?

What about dynasty prospects for Floyd?
Good question.Lets say Mccardell retires.Who's starting next year? Parker and Floyd? Parker and Jackson?
I don't follow SD incredibly close, but IMO, I can't see them being comfortable taking either of those guys as WR2 into next season.
why not? The WR is the 3rd receiving option on the team. McCardell isn't lighting the world on fire this year with a stat line of 29-364-0. All 3 of those guys are good role players. Parker has good hands and runs good routes, and Floyd and Jackson are monster red zone targets at 6-5 and 6-6. Consider that they have the #4 offense in the league and are #1 in scoring but neither McCardell or Parker (their two starting wr's) don't have a td between them.

It obviously doesn't happen too often, but after seeing a relatively unknown guy like Marques Colston go from Hofstra to the verge of superstardom, I don't dismiss anyone's chances.

He could easily be much more Tyrone Calico than Colston (or Cotchery), but if it costs nothing, it's worth stashing him for at least a few weeks or so.

The problem is the SD offense revolves around LT and Gates so even the best WR on the team is option #3 in the passing game.

That statement can be said about a lot of teams, if not most teams. At this point in the year FF owners are looking at best for a WR3 or flex player. As long as his ankle injury is not a concern, Floyd would fit that role should Parker be out of action.

 You may want to check your collegate sources. Floyd played his college ball at Wyoming and Vincent Jackson played for Northern Colorado

(Rotoworld) Malcolm Floyd (questionable, groin) is reportedly more likely to play in Week 13 than Eric Parker (questionable, neck).Impact: It sounds like the 6-5 Floyd has a good chance to see significant snaps in place of Parker, and quite possibly start. We just worry about Floyd seeing a lot of Champ Bailey in primary coverage Sunday.
I would think that Champ would be covering Keenan this weekend...

well that's just funny, creating news from an injury report there

I would think he would cover Gates.

Update:

All but two of the six Chargers who missed Wednesday's practice returned to work yesterday. Defensive end Luis Castillo continues to hobble and will almost certainly miss his second consecutive game with a sprained ankle. Receiver Eric Parker (neck) only did individual drills but “has a pretty good chance” of playing, Schottenheimer said.

personally, this is how i see the situation in SD shaking out if McCardell retires.

option one - sign a legit #1 receiver, parker as the #2, floyd or jackson as the #3. parker goes into the slot in 3 WR sets.

option two - Floyd or Jackson go into the WR1 spot and the other as WR3, parker as the #2, parker in the slot in 3 WR sets. If this is the case, i'd think it would be a WR by committee with no true #1 receiver. along the likes of Jax, but effective. with LT/Gates as their main options.

option three - mccardell doesn't retire and things stay relatively the same from the WR spot.

option four - im completely wrong on all fronts and dont know what im talking about come next year :P :bag:

This isn't a bad option, but it's pretty unlikely in the Chargers' case.AJ hasn't exactly lit the Free Agency board up since he has been there. He prefers to re-sign the guys he has, build through the draft, and shore up one or two weak areas by bringing in bargain-rate talent. I'd be surprised if he decided to break the bank by bringing in a big-name/big-price-tag WR in the offseason. Also, I'm pretty sure AJ likes what he sees from his offensive package. He doesn't have a WR that attracts much extra attention, but he doesn't need one with LT and Gates out there. They really haven't had much trouble getting downfield or putting up points the last two and a half years, so a top-flight WR would be little more than a luxury rather than a necessity. The depth they have at WR is somewhat underrated, and it seems to be serving them well.

Good post. Thanks for the info.

:hot: No Merriman + No Castillo = L for the Chargers
