WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) - A very strange story is unfolding as police in Warren release details about how a Clinton Township man drove a deceased woman across the country from Arizona to Michigan.

WJBK Fox 2's Roop Raj reports a 62-year-old man drove from Michigan to Arizona to pick up a 31-year-old woman, with whom he was in a relationship. The man picked the woman up on May 31 from the mental health facility where she resided in Glendale, Ariz., a suburb of Phoenix.

Police believe the woman ingested a number of oxycodone pills after stopping at a gas station in Flagstaff, Ariz. June 1. Warren Police Commissioner Jere Green says she returned to the van and died almost immediately, but it wasn't until later that the man touched her and realized she was dead.

The man told police he made two additional stops between New Mexico and Oklahoma, where he attempted to ask the woman if she needed to exit the vehicle. After she failed to respond, he determined she was deceased.

Commissioner Green says the man used his cell phone to search what he should do with the woman's body. Apparently, what he read on the internet convinced him that it was alright to continue driving to Michigan.

The woman's body remained in the passenger seat for the remainder of the drive. Police say he propped her body up and placed sunglasses on her face and a stuffed animal in her lap.

The man's 92-year-old mother was also riding in the back of the van in her wheelchair. During the 26-hour drive she was not able to use a restroom. The air-conditioning in the van stopped working soon after they began driving.

So dude was riding in a van with no A/C, a dead woman and his 92 year old mother who had likely shat herself. Sounds like a run of the mill weekday to me.

Was that wrong? Should I not have done that? I'm sorry, I'm gonna have to plead ignorance on this thing, because if I had known that sort of thing was frowned upon...

Good little nugget to close this article out:

"The man's 92-year-old mother was also riding in the back of the van in her wheelchair. During the 26-hour drive she was not able to use a restroom. The air-conditioning in the van stopped working soon after they began driving."

I'm curious though...let's say she died in Kansas and he knew she wanted to be buried in Michigan and that all her family and friends were up there...what's wrong with just driving her to Michigan and dropping her off at a morgue? She's freaking dead.

According to the news clip, when he googled it, he found that he would be okay with her dead body for about 48 hours before it became a problem (decomp I would imagine). It didn't say anywhere that he was being charged with a crime.

From the article:

"The man is not in police custody and no charges have been filed. The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office is reviewing the case"

WHEW

Oh Lord, ease our suffering in this our time of great despair. Admit this good and decent woman into thine heavenly area up there. The flock. And Mohab laid down by the band of the Kingonights and although the Hindues speak of carma, I implore you, give, give her a break...Barookatah, Hallalooyah.

Well he didn't kill her and he didn't improperly dispose of the body. Riding with a corpse isn't illegal in and of itself.

I like the part where he consulted the Internet and got the A-OK for his plans to continue the journey. FINALLY, the FFA has a feather in its cap to rival the SP in utility.
