Mangini/Fox/Cowher (1 Viewer)

If Holmgren cans Mangini and manages to lure John Fox to coach the Browns, does Bill Cowher get the Panthers' HC job (after the obligatory Rooney Rule interview with another candidate, of course)?

How would he lure Fox to Cleveland if he's under contract?

and why would Fox want to leave a team with a suddenly-hot QB in Moore, a top WR in Smith, a top 5 RB in D'will and Stewart, Julius Peppers, etc?

why would you leave all of that, to go coach Brady Quinn, no-name hapless defenders and bland-as-dishwater WR's??

not sure that makes any sense at all..

Huh, what? Is this a wild speculation or is there concrete info on this? This sounds like a Browns fan dream come true. Why would Fox go to Cleveland?

I have to say I have heard this rumor myself. As to why Fox would go to Cleveland, basically he can hit "refresh" and start all over and have about 4-5 years to do so. In Carolina, he has one year left (by his chinny-chin-chin), and if that team does not at lest go to the playoffs and win one game, I am pretty sure he is gone. Matt Moore and the defensive output against the Giants saved his job, and had Hurney not gone public about keeping Fox before the Giants got waxed two days later in the season finale, I am not sure if he would even have a job now (yes he would, DC of the Giants). I like Fox a lot and many are tough on him, but his only fatal flaw was not drafting/developing behind Delhomme...until Moore came around. Now I am not a Moore fan, but he played well and basically saved Fox's job.So when you ask why would he move, the answer is that his fate is in the hands of Matt Moore. In Cleveland, he just gets more time.

As far as the contract goes, I could be wrong, but I believe it may be one-way at this point and Carolina is waiting for Fox to extend...again, I could be wrong, but I think this may be the case.

I'll add this to Sweet Love's statement.Well, he's a horrible HC ( threw the ball 44 times incl. 3 INTs vs one of the worst run D's in the league) and he can hide that incompetance over in Cleveland (built in excuse-they stink) for a few years. He's been exposed in Carolina and the next round of stupidity sends him packing anyway.

No idea why Holmgren would want him unless it's DC only.

ESPN just said that Holmgren said Mangini and the entire coaching staff will return.

Fox is not a horrible HC, and he would be scooped up fast as a HC for another NFL team if and when he leaves Carolina.

Only by one of the clueless teams. Explain why he ran 44 times against one of the worst run defenses in the league. As a GM, that would be my 1st question when I interviewed him and I wouldn't need a 2nd question.

This is the same John Fox that took a hopeless George Seifert Panther team and transformed it into a Super Bowl squad. How soon we forget.

You'd have to ask their OC that. Did you lose that week when you played DeAngelo? Just admit that you're a tempermental DeAngelo owner.

Just because someone hires you doesn't make you a good coach. Hopefully Fox will learn from his mistakes, he goes with the veterans too long. Also, I can't blame all the problems with Carolina with the coach, management is a joke.

Fox said in the last post game interview that he doesn't make mistakes. It may have been a joke, but the tone didn't come off that way. His annoucement that he might not be back was totally unnecessary and showed poor judgement. Unfortuanately we're stuck with him as Richardson won't do anything brash with a lockout looming.

Fox was kidding. He already said that some of the losses were coaching mistakes. Also on Monday he said that he expected to return to the Panthers.
